For those not watching the newsboards, I came across a link that I feel puts some decent perspective on the story..

Originally posted by The Baltimore Sun

    ...

The sad episode does raise questions about links between steroid use, the frenetic lifestyle of wrestlers and mental instability. Benoit's employer, World Wrestling Entertainment, has tried to steer coverage away from his possible steroid use (authorities found prescribed anabolic steroids while searching his home).

The deliberate nature of his actions suggested anything but a rage, the company said in a news release. Chairman Vince McMahon reiterated that position on NBC's Today show, noting that Benoit tested negative for drug use in April.

The company's points may be true as far as they go (though McMahon failed to acknowledge loopholes in the testing policy that allow steroid use with a prescription). But depression is much more common among steroid users than "'roid rage," said Dr. William Howard, founder of Union Memorial Sports Medicine.

The reason I'm asking these in a public forum is because I don't want the issue to fade away without these types of things being answered.

Listen, virtually no one...NO ONE (besides Bruce Hart, who saw him what...3 times in the past 7 years?) saw something like this coming.

I'm not really concerned about getting eyes rolled. These are logical, valid questions. If everything "fits" so well into a double murder/suicide, then that's the way it is, and the answers should reflect such.

    But if not...

These are questions worth asking.(edited by newmansmm on 29.6.07 2135)

I understand that you want someone to say that it could have been a triple homicide, and that you won't be happy unless someone answers questions that no one is asking. However they're not being asked for good reason.

The questions you're asking are invalidated by facts involved. I say that because you're hoping that your questions will lead to it being someone else as the killer. The answers to much more important questions show that Benoit did this all himself. As pointed out by darby_duck, it is a very simply technique to figure out the time-line of someone's death in this sort of situation, as well as such facts as there was a struggle with his wife, but none with him (3 times her size?)

Asking if Benoit was good at typing put up against the fact that they found his body hung by himself 2 days after his wife was killed is like asking the if they've considered that maybe it was poor welding that's causing the Titanic to sink while people are looking at the huge block of ice that's now taking up 1/2 of the inside of the ship.

I'm sorry, but the questions you've asked probably will never be answered because they've been determined by people closer to the investigation than we'll ever know to just... not matter... given other facts.

--Where was Sullivan during this time period?
A: At his home in the Florida Keys.

--But did they check to see if he actually called the airport? It was Delta, I think, who he said he called in specific. Were the reservations made? Were one of the phones dialed to a Delta Airlines number or a travel agency something on Saturday (when he supposedly told someone that he called them)
A: As far as I've seen, WWE wrestler bookings (at least Benoit's) were done through the office. So he called WWE and said he was gonna be late on Saturday, and the office changed his bookings.

--What were the Scripture verses that were texted?
A: As far as is known publicly, he only texted Chavo and another wrestler (believed to be Regal) and only did those five texts.

--Were the Bibles open? Were they pointing to a particular verse?
A: No. Bibles were found closed.

--Were there any other phone calls made (they have the cell phones...)
A: As far as has been publicly released, no cell phone calls were made.

--What do his other children say? Was he unstable in their eyes?
A: They haven't commented publicly because they are (according to Chris Jericho) 10/11 and 14 years old. They're reportedly as devastated as the rest of the family.

--One more...was he particularly good at using technology, typing, etc...?
A: He was apparently good enough at e-mail to be pen pals with Slam Wrestling's Greg Oliver.

Do you only want to see him on CNN, Fox News, or MSNBC? Just because Jerico was contrite and very eloquent in his comments with Nancy Grace, but that does not mean that every performer needs to talk. Debra was on Fox for Derba and Fox will pay for her to appear. In that case, where was "The Rock"?

I can pretty much guarantee you that both the Rock & Hulk Hogan have already received numerous media requests for interviews. And I can pretty much guarantee you that their handlers will steer Hogan & Rock FAR away from these requests.

It's to neither of their best interests to be associated with the WWE product right now -- or to answer a gazillion different questions about their own experiences with steroids.

And I agree that Chris Jericho did a fantastic job on TV. He'd be an ideal ambassador for the WWE, because he's smart, good-looking, quick-witted -- and importantly, he doesn't look like a muscle-headed steroid monstrosity. Jericho's appearance communicates to viewers that using steroids & having 20+ inch biceps is NOT a prerequisite to being successful in the WWE. And given the current climate, that's very important.

I saw this as well, but doesn't the issue of the Oberver its supposedly from not out until Monday? I dunno this just seems like a big mix of speculation and slightly tweeked bits on info already hinted at (Meltzer mentioned the address change in one of the news updates on the website today, only he says it was a mutually agreed upon decision because they didnt want mail coming to the house, for example). After all, one of the original claims was that the info for the Wikipedia entry supposedly came from Meltzer, and Meltzer said that wasn't true, so this could be more of the same, unless I'm wrong about when the Benoit Observer issue comes out. Plus why would he open himself up to possible legal trouble by saying he knew before Raw that Benoit may have killed them? It seems weird to me.

Dave dates his newsletters somewhat odd, guessing at the date it will get to mailboxes, which is a few days after he actually sends it out. It's my understand people in Europe tend to get the newsletter a little quicker than the rest of the world - at one point, it was because Dave was faxing a copy to an associate in Europe who was mailing them out from there. I don't think that's still happening, but something like it is, and so earlier bits from the Observer turn up from European sources if you know who to look.

It is good to doubt anyone who posts "I got this from another board" without actually linking to the other board.

Why I am writing this post when Justin knows all of this better? This was dumb of me.

Which question? None of the actual posed ones were answered yet.

Why should your actual questions be answered? Your theory of the crime seems to be that Kevin Sullivan or someone else who isn't Benoit committed all three killings. darby_duck has just explained to you why that doesn't fit the evidence.

Given that, your questions have nothing to do with the case. If there's no evidence of a fourth party killing all three Benoits, why does it matter where Kevin Sullivan was? You don't start looking for suspects until you can rule out suicide.

And what difference does it make which pages the bibles were open to? It's not like investigators can go "Whoa, these bibles were left open on the page about 'Thou shalt not commit adultery!' That must mean it was Nancy's ex-husband!" If it had been a triple-murder, then the killer would not have been stupid enough to leave clues of that nature, unless the killer was in fact the Riddler.

You're assuming that there's no word on the bibles or the cellphones because authorities failed to examine them. What you should be inferring is that authorities did examine all of these things and found nothing significant enough to alter their theory.

For what it's worth, I've seen the same thing on british wrestling forum ukff.com
The person who posted there said it came from the figure four weekly online board. Unfortunately, you have to be a subscriber to f4w to have access to that board, so I haven't been able to see it for myself.

Benoit and Xanax

If it does come out, that he was prescribed and had taken Xanax on the friday before the episode as speculated... where do we go from there.

The list of side effects of that drug is eerie when looking at this case.

Psychiatric effects: Mental confusion, depression, irritability, nervousness, sleep disturbances, euphoria, lethargy, stupor.

Xanax treatment should be discontinued if any of the following occur: Hyper excitement, muscle spasm, anxiety, hallucinations, rage or other hostile behavior, tremors, insomnia, sleeping difficulties or over stimulation.

And reading the "if you suffer from this, do not take Xanax List, there is no way Benoit should have been prescribed this drug in my opinion, although i am not a medical professional.

Personality Disorder -personality disorder or a history of violent behavior.

(Couple of interesting things being reported on www.PWTorch.com)

The parents of the late Nancy Benoit are disputing reports that their only grandson, Daniel, had Fragile X disease or any medical condition of mental retardation.
http://www.pwtorch.com/artman/publish/article_20740.shtml

If Daniel did indeed have Fragile X disease, then it really comes off creepy that even the grandparents were not made aware of it.
---------------------------------------------------------

And also:

ESPN.com has an article on the possibility of researching Chris Benoit's head to determine whether he suffered from some form of brain trauma that could possibly explain what triggered the alleged murders of his wife and son. However, a source tells ESPN that Benoit's brain might be too damaged to examine.

Investigators found the bodies of the Benoit family on Monday afternoon, and Benoit's body had already been in a state of decomposition for over one day following his alleged suicide on Sunday morning. They said the sweltering 93-degree heat in the basement/weight room where Benoit was found hung from a piece of exercise equipment hastened the rate of decomposition. ESPN.com writes that a source close to the local coroner's exam, the body was virtually "liquefied."

A group of researches, including former WWE wrestler Christopher Nowinski, have asked for a sample of the brain to study the state of the brain at the time of death. They were told initially that the brain was in no condition to be examined, but they hope to obtain enough brain tissue to conduct a study, similar to the study they performed on former NFL player Andre Waters's brain. That study yielded results that showed he had the equivalent brain of an 85-year-old man with Alzheimer's disease. They concluded that several concussions had "severely worsened" Waters's neurological state.
-------------------------------------------------------

Kinda odd to me that his basement was 93 degrees. Any basement I've been in (including my own) is rather cool no matter how hot it gets outside.

By the way, did anyone already see the new Benoit T-shirt? Pretty tasteless.

Or ... the ZODIAC. A member of the DUNGEON OF DOOM. You just blew this wide open.

Yeah, I read the Observer today. Those excerpts are indeed from it. WONs are mailed out on Wednesday and intended to arrive by Monday which is the cover date. He has written two issues this week though and the second one is dated Thursday.

Dave has a detailed explanation of how Chris killed himself, which is just ... rough. His belief is also the police's theory, that Chris killed Nancy in a rage after an argument, not a roid rage but stemming from mental problems brought on by a combo of steroids, depression, painkillers, recreational drugs, anti-depression meds, etc. Then Chris, having wrecked his own life, felt that Daniel would have an awful life without his parents and, in his warped state of mind, believed that killing him would be a merciful act.

It seems pretty clear that he had the syndrome, but that it was kept pretty quiet.

"My husband asked him whether he wanted to be a public face for Fragile X," Winthrope said Wednesday night. "But he wanted to remain very, very private about it."

The two men then talked briefly about what it meant to be dads to a child with the syndrome, she said.

"It's easier for mothers to accept it because we carry the child for nine months and learn to love them," she said. "Fathers have a problem with assumptions of what they can and cannot do. 'Can they play football with me?' "

So unless both the lawyer speaking for the WWE and this Pam Winthrop are lying, Daniel had it and Chris and Nancy kept it extremely private.

I think it was Jericho (or one of the parade of "experts") on Nancy Grace said he wouldn't be surprised if Benoit's parents didn't even know about Daniel's syndrome, so he was close.

This is the first I've heard about Benoit being at his doctor's office on Friday. Of course I know about doctor/patient confidentiality, but has there been any indication anywhere why he was there? Did he get some bad news there or something?

It seemed odd to me that Cena & Crash both worked Velocity & Smackdown. They don't normally have someone appear on both shows on the same night, do they? If they were on a short roster, that might explain why there were only 4 matches.
