I'm trying to figure out the timeline on this whole thing here. I have read that he was at Vengence and had to leave.

Then I have heard that he called to take a later flight there then called and said his family was sick and he couldn't make it so he was never there. The police say that it is possible that his wife was killed a day before his son was. Some say the same day but at different times.

Thing is if he did indeed kill his wife on Saturday then his osn the next day and was calling and making excuses not to be at the shows to me this says he was not on "roid rage", didn't just "lose it" or anything like that. This is a guy who if all of that is true sat in a house with 1-2 dead bodies and called people and rationally talked to them and sent text messeges.

Why he killed himself I don't know, maybe he realized what was going to happen to him or finally felt remorse and decided that was the only way out.

I hate that this happened not only to this family but ot any family that has been through this. There is no way I can imagine what his family is going through and my heart goes out to them.

I might still watch wrestling, but I think it may be quite awhile before I can truly enjoy wrestling the way I have in the past, now.

And I don't think I'll ever be able to understand.

I dont think it's denial as much as what I'm gonna personally choose to believe, but I do not think that Chris did it.

If anyone asks me personally Im gonna say I think it was set up to look like a murder-suicide, and people are gonna think I'm just crazy or a conspiracy theorist but I cant say I really care, it's what I strongly believe at this time (will it change if other details come to light? maybe.)

I dont see why Chris Benoit would do anything like this, especially the Chris Benoit all these people described etc... dont see it.

Yes, sounds insane on my part but it's not like it's impossible and has never happened (or did not happen).

TV Week is reporting that Vince McMahon plans to address the ECW crowd on tonight's show. He plans to apologize for airing last night's tribute and address the steroid allegations.

http://tvweek.com/news/2007/06/mcmahon_to_apologize_for_benoi.php

I am not sure this is a good idea. As far as the apology, I don't believe they have anything to apologize for, and anybody giving them grief over last night is not doing so fairly. As far as the steroid situation, I agree with the fact that some of the speculation at this point is probably unfair. But you could easily say something here you may regret later on depending on how the investigation/test results turn out. They are going to get attacked regardless, this will do nothing to prevent that. I think it may be best to lay low for a while until more facts come out.

F'N SHAPRIO: WWE.com going into self-preservation mode calling Benoit a pre-meditated killer is creepy. In a sense I'm not sure they have much of a choice because this is shaping up to be a "shit storm" that will make 1990-92 pale in comparison. At the same time it's stunningly cold.

Dammit - you beat me to it - the Shep Fox News hit piece led with this and included that statement / position. I don't think you are correct re: the "shit storm", but I'll get back to that in a sec. "Cold" is right. Hang on

Phantom: "WWE strongly suggest that it is entirely wrong for speculators to suggest that steroids had anything to do with these senseles acts."

Good job, Vince. Way to stand up for those poor, helpless steroids.

This seems like the sort of release that can really blow up in WWE's face down the road.

It's the right thing to do. CRZ - this is what I mentioned earlier - Vince's response will control how this plays out. Vince hasn't been too much in his right mind lately, but this appears to have woke him up. "Pre-meditated.". "A little bent". There is evidence falling into place to support that - tied up, the bibles, the timeline - freak.

I know some people disagree, but the way the show played out last night / is playing out (watching it now) was dead on perfect.

Innocent until proven guilty - the timeline is screwy to who knew what when, but going in, I think the idea was - "they are dead, let's roll with it. Screw this soap opera, let's regroup, because this is heavy.".

The right thing to do. Then after the "story" came out - distance yourself and pick a "cold" position and stick to it . In a week or two, know one will care, much.

It's an election year - this story sounds good, but a legislative stance on "steroids" - especially when Bonds is about to break a THE record, and no one gives two shits about that - and like AWA, in earlier posts, has been trying to beat into your heads - this ain't weird. It's just we know the guy. Kind of. Triple Murder is a sexy story, but no one is in the mood for the politicians to get involved.

(Although - if the GOP was smart about this - they would drop the abortion issue {because it's won - Supreme Court is fixed} and hook onto Bonds = evil and look what this steroid issue is doing to the kids. It's a red herring issue, one that means nothing, but suckers people in.

Actually, it's also a good issue for the Dems to use - but they are going to have to talk people into how they won't ruin the economy. And Gas and War. But we do need hot buttons. Global Warming ain't working, nor immigration. Actually, it almost happening with the brain damaged football players. Vince should take note on the NFL's response. Mike Ditka cut a hell of a PROMO in front of Congress. If Vince wasn't such a maniac, he could talk them into an Ambassadorship)

F'N SHAPRIO: 'WWE.com going into self-preservation mode calling Benoit a pre-meditated killer is creepy. In a sense I'm not sure they have much of a choice because this is shaping up to be a "shit storm" that will make 1990-92 pale in comparison. At the same time it's stunningly cold.

Ok. Self - preservation is correct. "Shit storm" is not, as mentioned above. The bitch about this (and the letter writing started from the shareholders with the "Vince is Dead" angle) is shareholders literally have no power. The votes don't count. With the public stock, shareholders do not have the voting ability to kick Vince out.

Financially, it's whether you like the stock or not. I don't - and haven't for about a year, I don't like they way they are doing business.

That stock should be around $25 or $26, given the current state of the market. When a company like that is not taking advantage of a boom, the probably are not going to like the Bear market coming. Not that the stock will sink, it's a good company, just not one to make you money. In my opinion.

But, even if the stock dips to $14, that's acceptable. Even if the "business as we know it" falls apart, which I don't think it will, they make a fortune on New Media and history. I think their position now ("stunningly cold") can ride through until at least WM, which at that point - and depending on how people may decide to spend their fun money around that time next year- may be a good time to stop and readjust for the future.

I think the time for gassed - up wrestlers to succeed will have to change, if only for public relations reasons. But with the statement today, if they stick to that story, should be able to make it through WM without issue. They can hide the stiffs and pill freaks overseas and run something like ECW domestically to smaller arenas, if needed. And get people ready for the future

This is what bothers me the most - WWE just LOST $15 million on a movie. If that same money was spent on the business that they are tops at, maybe dumb shit wouldn't be happening. That's an abbreviated version of that topic, but I've typed long enough

F'N SHAPRIO: Seriously, wrestling promos on Benoit are worthless. Most fucks doesn't mean you're the most disgusted by Chris Benoit committing murder. Call me crazy but I think everyone agrees that's indefensibly horrifying. It kind of goes without saying.

Thank you. Next time don't apologize!

I see yesterday's RAW as a funeral/memorial service to Chris Benoit who murderer or not is a wrestling legend.

Aside from this, a lot of people knew and loved him and what has happened is a horrible tragedy.

Also, as highlighted in my previous post and the posts of others; nobody complaining about the RAW show REALLY knows the circumstances of the deaths or if Chris did do it even know what was going on.

The story was making mainstream news in Australia last night - albeit after the story covering Paris Hilton's release from jail, but still.

...

One cannot begin to fathom what is going through a man's mind when killing your wife and child becomes an answer. It must truly be a deep, dark place.

I'm not sure how this will affect me as a wrestling fan in the future. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch the Benoit DVD again. There were already bits in his interviews that I thought were weird. Now I think they will be positively creepy to the point of skin crawling.

The whole 24 or so hours has felt completely surreal, and I echo those previous posts....

Was I the only one that found Triple H's Benoit story just just a little strange? I know these guys live in a different world than the rest of us, but it just seemed like an odd memory to share about a guy that just died. Other than Edge, Malenko and Chavo it just seemed like the guy was a bit of an unknown and quirky even in the world of wrestlers.

Edit:

I don't think he really has to. Their only other option was re-running a show, maybe a PPV, or doing a greatest hit type of deal.

A live show was probably totally out of the question as it might have turned into more of a Benoit tribute than the show that they ran. I know they ran shows after Pillman, Owen and Eddie but there were just to many variables here.

I only heard about it ten minutes before the show and figured the worst (not in detail) and I'm sure the WWE brass did too. They were dealt a bad hand at the last minute, and played it the best that they could.

I guess they could come out and bury Benoit tonight, but that doesn't really right anything either. Vince should address the issue, but I don't think any kind of apology is necessary.

Roid rage just makes someone get angry quickly, but it does not last over the course of days. It lasts seconds and minutes. Chris Benoit was an individual. He was the author of his deeds.

I just have to wonder how Benoit's other sons from his first marriage are handling this.

I, like others, am having difficulty staring at the cold eyes of Benoit on various news site. I don't know if I can watch that Hard Knocks DVD's again.

This is absolutely painful.

No, I was thinking the same thing. Going back to Foley's book and the Raw is Owen tribute, the thing that happened to come up more often than not is what a funny outgoing guy Owen Hart was. Last night was almost a stark contrast to that. As told by the wrestlers, Benoit was a very quiet guy. That was brought up by a few people. Why would that be important, or need to be brought up? I could see respectful, collected, or calm. But quiet was used more than any other adjective last night. He was also prone to what seems to be mood swings. Chavo (was it Chavo?) brought up that in the middle of hanging out with friends he was known for disassociating himself and just up and leaving. It was his trademark, if you listen to Chavo. Quiet or not, that's kind of strange. The Triple H story isn't strange on its own. God knows there's enough Bradshaw/Respect stories out there. Coupled with the stories from last night, Bret Hart's early response, and William Regal's VERY tentative interview, it seems like there were enough flags that something could've been addressed.

Well, I for one am done with wrestling for a while. I do not think I could enjoy it now as I will be looking at each of the wrestlers and thinking "will this guy snap soon?".

It is painfully ironic that the reason I watched wrestling during its heyday and down times AND the reason I am turning away is one in the same person: Chris Benoit.

WWE will make up the Corpus Christi Raw show on July 16...and cancel the Calgary show in exchange (the Observer link is here). The Edmonton show is also expected to be canceled.

Look, I realize that this story has turned really bad, but is it really necessary to punish the Calgary and Edmonton fans by association?

Leaving aside the morality and ethics of it all, I am uncertain about something. Obviously it would be kind of hard to say that Benoit's brain damage occured solely in WWE, or even mostly.
