Tokyo subway is pretty damn awesome. It goes everywhere you could possibly want to get to, plus it connects up with other subway systems outside of Tokyo, so you can ride a train from outside the city to whatever stop you need to get to. And it's easy enough to understand even if you don't read any Japanese. Taking it during rush hour isn't a lot of fun, but most of the time it's not as crowded as stories make out.

So there aren't anyone pushing people into the cars with sticks and such?
Any subway is better than the LRT system we have here in Edmonton. What a useless, disgusting system.

Possibly at Shinjuku station during rush hour. Shinjuku is the downtown district with all their government buildings. I visited Shinjuku station but didn't ride the train there. It was an absolute madhouse. I've never been anywhere so crowded, and it wasn't even rush hour when I was there. The Akihabara and Harajuku stations, though, weren't nearly so bad as you hear about. Crowded, yes, but no shoving or anything like that. I was even lucky enough to grab a seat on the train once or twice.
Shweet. I lived by the Roppongi station on the Toyoko line for about 6 months. (Actually, between the Hiro-o and Roppongi stops) Subway system is amazingly logical in Tokyo.

Thank you so much for remembering. One more in the books; one more to look forward to. Peace and love to all.

Oooooh, Dominion Day plus perfect tenderloin steak!
At the Hotel Vancouver, there used to be a restaurant called the Timber Club. Rustic crossed with impeccible style & service. They did a "Carpetbag Steak". Take a perfect, thick filet mignon. Lateral incision makes a pocket in the middle, which gets stuffed with either perfectly fresh oyster or crabmeat. Wrap the whole thing with *bacon!*. Cook to a perfect medium rare. Nap lightly with bernaise sauce (with extra on the side.) Heavenly!!!!
This week's tribute to beef came from this poster (beefretail.org). I meant to switch out the graphics when we came back but I've been blissfully lazy this week.
Today's photo is from the Library of Congress and is from New York City's 1911 Independence Day parade. See the whole thing here (flickr.com).
Expect very soon to see photos taken from our trip to Seattle/Bay City/Vancouver (yes that really was a Canadian flag on some of my posts last week - surely the apocalypse is nigh).
