Look, I have no idea what's going through the minds of the brain trust up in Connecticut, but if Goldberg isn't leaving UFC then that means that Joey Styles isn't replacing Goldberg which means that if WWE is dead set on replacing Jim Ross on RAW then there is someone available to take his spot. I'm not saying it will happen; I'm just saying that all the pieces are in place where it could happen (and, FWIW, I agree with the sentiment expressed by Bob C above).

Could Styles play ball, though?

Would he put over the superstars we all know don't deserve it (IE Chris Masters)? Or would he do his own thing, and say whatever he wants about the guy?

That's the big reason WWE may not want to put Styles in the spot.

Look at Paul Heyman. He's not a McMahon Yes-Man, and he got heat for it. Styles said a few anti-WWE things at One Night Stand (IE putting down the Simon Dean charater). This might tell WWE that Styles wouldn't be a McMahon Yes-Man, and thus not what WWE wants in the spot.

Goldberg, not knowing anything about wrestling, would put over whoever WWE told him to, because he wouldn't know better. Might have been what WWE wanted.

I thought the 3-person team was a way of grooming Coach to eventualy take JR's spot. Hell, it still could go that way if WWE is hell-bent on replacing JR.

I imagine Styles might be trouble backstage, but on the mic, I really don't think he'd be trouble at all. There's this perception that everything about ECW was pure and good, and while I love ECW, I will openly admit that Styles had to -- and did -- put over some major stiffs during his time there. 911? The lesser Dudleys? Balls Mahoney? Justin Credible as world champion? He'll sell the Masterlock like the kata hajime.

Uh, I think we all need to be giving thanks right now. IT'S OVER!!! They could have dragged that shit on for month after sickening month. No really, other than having no pregnancy angles at all the next best thing is one that only lasts a week.
