Never fails. I praise the guy publicly, and then he goes and ruins it by writing "The WWE" about a million times on his website. I'm switching horses. Go Edge Adam.

On the front page of WWE.com, they've posted what Matt originally posted on his message board, which surprises me since it seemed like they weren't going to acknowledge him at all.

Just to point out something from an OVW watcher: Gene Snitsky is a good example of a guy who came to OVW and went to WWE within just a matter of a few weeks with little time in front of the audience (and I think maybe one match), while Nathan Jones never had a match in OVW until he was sent back down after his WWE run. Now, Wright's been working in OVW for a couple of months now, so they might be giving him the Snitsky/Jones push.

It definitely looked like him in the ad.

Where does he steal material from them?

Just everything he says sounds like it's been lifted directly from a promo from someone during the Attitude era (hence not post-retirement).

I don't ever plan on watching that segment back on tape, but off the top of my head you had the attempt at doing The Rock's schtick with the funny voices. That was the most blatant one since that was a huge part of the Rock's act post-1999. You had him going for Foley's cheap hometown pop. Not the only person to do it but he takes it to a sickening degree (Cena is as much "one of them" as Vince McMahon is). You had him steal Austin's "You've got *** thousand people calling you an asshole" line. Again, stolen a few times before but still makes me immediately think of Austin. His whole "Ladies and gentlemen" intro he does is, to me, blatantly on the back of Road Dogg's old intro. Hell, even his catchphrase is directly stolen from Rick Steiner.

For anyone who wasn't watching the company back in 98/99 (which I'm guessing is the aim of Cena since he seems to appeal to the kids) I guess it's not a problem, but for me it's just not entertaining seeing some guy trying to pantomime the Attitude era.

I'd prefer neither, but the choice would be easy. I've hated every single Austin appearance since his retirement but I'd take 10 of his stale promos over one of Cena's efforts.

Saying the city's name and giving a thumbs up? Ha! Hilarious!

That's pretty much the point I was making. Foley doing the cheap pop thing was at a stage where he was so over there was no way up. It was clearly not an attempt to garner serious support, just a joking way of showing he was at that stage now and could say anything to get cheered. Like I said, the Kurt Angle jobber got just as big of a reaction by going for the cheap pop last night, so it stands out a bit more when someone who is trying to establish themselves like Cena uses it in a non-ironic way, especially to the degree he does.

Not accepted by me. I haven't seen one iota of improvement out of him other than the ability to be carried to good matches, which he could do just as well before. He was the sole reason I didn't buy Vengeance because I honestly can't bring myself to pay to sit through one of his matches without shaking my head at the idea this guy might be the next figurehead of the company.

A) MATTITUDE! Maybe this is the start of a new era of disgruntled folk like mentioned earlier in this thread. A pissed off Haas and a Helms who has forever washed that green shit out of his hair would make some nice accomplices eh?

B) John Cena talking and John Cena wrestling is like the choice between a kick in the nuts or a punch in the throat. He needs something better than CHEAP... seriously.

C) I missed the Bogeyman vignette b/c I saw the font and kept ff-ing... thinking "I don't care if it has 4 endings they all SUCK."

D) Masters VS the Bogeyman at SS would be the Shockmaster/ Gobbledy Gooker match we never got!

Comsidering how bad Snitsky & Jones are/were, this really doesn't work in Wright's favor.

I was thinking the same thing. Just show Edge & Lita backstage upset, saying "he just attacked me", making people think "he" = Kane. But I'm guessing the reasoning behind showing Matt in that segment was to make sure they had as many people as possible watching the Kane/Edge match in order to catch the Matt run-in.

Pfft, he's no Palumbo.

Pretty up & down show, but at least the up's were pretty up there.

Benjamin/Carlito started off slow, but pretty much everything after the commercial break was damn good. I still think they should have moved Benjamin to SD, as there's really nothing for him to do on Raw. I doubt Carlito will be dropping the IC belt to him, and the ME scene is already crowded. After feuding w/ Carlito, what can he do? At least on SD he'd be in the US Title hunt, and can hang around the ME scene.

Matt's return was fantastic. I loved the shoot-y feel to it, even though it obviously isn't. That 1 segment was the only one that had me glued to the TV. Good job WWE, now don't fuck it up.

Tajiri/Masters was OK, but I liked Venis/Masters better.

HBK is such a freakin' dork on camera in casual situations. That whole segment with him walking backstage made him look like such a goof. "Whoa, too close?" And then goofing on the doughnut (or whatever he picked up)? Ugh.

Everything else was "meh" or worse.

Ugh. So Bret should have come back? Are you actually saying that? Even after what happened with Owen? These situations are not comparable.

The whole "Bret screwed Bret omgzors" stuff happened several years before Owen's tragic passing (1997 vrs 1999). No way in hell should any of the hart family have anything to do with VKM *now*, but that doesn't change the fact that even before Owen's untimely death, I'm sure Vince would have loved to make money off the RL screwjob that was HBK/Bret. And it would have been a huge angle, and it would have made Bret buckets and buckets of money, and possibly even prempted the Austin/ VKM feud (my memory is fuzzy on when Austin became Vince's foil, but 1997 may be earlier then that? not sure) But Bret would have nothing to do with Vince, or maybe he was locked into a contract at WCW he couldn't get out of, and the WWF was unwilling to buy him out of it. And then Owen died, and well, I don't blame Bret for hating Vince's guts before that, but now there's no way in hell he'd work an angle with the guy.

I totally forgot about that match.

Easily Carlito's best match to date and I'm loving the prospect of a 2005 Honky Tonk Man run with loads of chicken shit endings like the one last night. The fans were really into it by the end and there was major heat for Carlito walking out. Great stuff.

Four pages already. Wow, they couldn't have elevated Matt any better.

When I saw the backstage attack, like others, I thought that guy was a Matt stand-in because we didn't clearly see his face. The hair was darker, the arms were bigger, and there was no WWE ShopZone t-shirt to identify him. I figured the WWE had hired an impostor for the night and couldn't find someone small enough. Maybe Rhyno. And later on in the Edge/Kane match, I thought they were going to repeat the Fake Razor and Diesel fiasco with their own Matt Hardy v.2.

Then when he ran in and started waling away, I thought, "hey, he kind of stands on tip-toe like Matt." (It's a near-telepathic connection we Matts share). And when he got to ringside and the camera closed in, two thoughts leapt to mind:

1. Yep, that's Matt.
2. He's swallowed a jar of steroids.

Obviously he's been placed on the WWE-patented Eddie Guerrero Memorial Cruiserweight-No-More program of body-building. And while I'm glad to see him work with the WWE in whatever degree past whatever factual incident started this mess, I don't want him to blow out his heart because the WWE doesn't think a small guy can work a major angle. Unless he superkicks Hogan. Matt's an innovative guy but his moves were crafted when he was, what, 15 pounds lighter? Can we work at that size? Or does his new mass guarantee he works "main-event style" and lose the aerial moves? My Snarky Talking 8-Ball says the latter. But what else would it say? It's a Snarky Talking 8-Ball.

But I freaking loved it.

"I can slap a tornado.
I can dry up the sea."

Welcome back, Matt. Stay healthy. Prove you can make this work.

When Piper came out at the beginning of the show I marked out like a giddy little school girl. I didn't think there would be any more marking left in me, but I was proved wrong when out came Matt. I had been thinking for a while this whole thing was a work, and had finally in the last week or two resigned myself to the fact that it was not and I would never see V1 again. And then ka-blamo! The timing for me, personally, was PERFECT. I freakin' loved it.

Where does he steal material from them? I don't know of anyone who thinks "man, that's just like what Austin would say" or "Whoa! Someone's been watching Mick Foley promos!" whenever Cena talks. He may remind people of the Rock once in a while, but even that is just more because they are both young and both play to the crowd more than the rest of the roster.

The funny thing is, at Raw last night I distinctively remember saying "man he stole that from Austin" when he busted out the ol' '20,000 people callin' you an asshole' line. His "(Insert city name)...The Champ is HEEEEERE" reeks of The Rock and "Finally The Rock has come back to...(Insert city name)". Rock used to pretend he was from places too that he wasn't, to seem like one of the "people". "Dirty Jersey"? You're from Mass, brotha. His mannerisms are very Rock-like, and so is his wrestling style. He does "variations" of moves like the "hip toss", like Rock used to do with his "versions" of moves like the belly to belly.

I don't see much Foley cause he was loveable and stupid. Cena comes off as trying to be cool, which looks a ton like The Rock to me. I always call him the "New Rock", because my dislike for both characters are for the same exact reasons.

Just as a side note, I know we hate the guy, but HHH was hysterical last night. In the dark match, Batista did a biceps pose, to which JBL responded with his own pose. Triple H came in the ring and went up to JBL and did the throat-cutting sign, to say "nah cut that out, it won't work". Haha. The best part was when he jumped off the 2nd rope onto Cena, but Cena put his foot up and nailed HHH right in the face. H didn't fall down, but threw his head back, and stayed on his feet frozen for at least a full MINUTE. It went from slight humor to hilarity once we realized he was doing it just for the sake of our entertainment, knowing it wasn't gonna be on TV and "expose the business". It was fake as hell looking, but everybody was cracking up by the end of it. After the minute of being frozen there, he takes a few steps like hes OK, and then collapses. The crowd popped like hell, and I swear handfuls of people were actually standing and cheering that ridiculous sell.

To tie it back to the original post, we can go on for hours about HHH's desire to BE Ric Flair.

Finally!!!! Chris Jericho is back in the main event picture!!
And guess what .. its 2001 again!
I mean the only time hes allowed to wrestle for the big gold belt in one on one ppv matches seems to be when good old Triple Naitch (three times as good as the Nature Boy and therefore soon to be ... 48 times world champion!?) is out for a few days!!

Now what the f*** is up with that?

Whatever: Im REALLY glad Jericho is maineventing again!

"Love handles are NOT cool." THAT was awesome. Piper...THAT was awesome. Cena/Bischoff/Jericho...THAT was awesome. Carlito going old school with the "champ retains via countout"-win...THAT was awesome. Matt Hardy...THAT was awesome. HBK...THAT was awesome.

I'd say last night's RAW was...pretty good.

I wish the Hardy run-in was actually a shoot just to see Fit Finley and Steve Keirn beat the piss out of him when he was handcuffed. Nothing against Matt, but it would have just been entertaining. Matt has his best chance now. If he doesn't succeed on this one, he has no one to blame but himself.
Snitksky/Kane rides again.
Ross seemed to be treating Trip sympathetically.
Please, for the love of God, no one get the idea of Piper wrestling a match. So much focus on Hogan and Piper it seems like SD in the spring of '03. That started to suck very quickly.
Someone found Shelton Benjamin.

Have Piper and Hogan ever teamed up? They have a perfect reason to now, and this event would make my interior nine-year-old's brain asplode.

Opening HBK montage rocked. WWE can do a video montage like no-one else.

Carlito vs Jericho rocked. Piper was the PERFECT way to end that arguement. As soon as Piper said he would not rest until he got the answer from HBK, I saw a superkick forthcoming... 2 hours in advance.

Carlito vs Shelton... eh. Hopefully it'll lead to a good Summerslam match since I plan to be there considering it's in DC.

I may be the only person on the board who loves Chickenwing, er, I mean Chris Masters. Something about his snarky egotistic heelness is vastly ammusing to me. It doesn't hurt that he's a points bonanza for my fantasy team (too bad he's only on every other week though, grrr).

Lita, Edge and Snitsky were approaching Katie Vick levels of "this sort of shit does NOT belong in my RAW programming" with the foot fetish stuff.

Cena wasn't as good as last week, but he still ammuses me as much as anyone else on the program (which is saying a lot with Jericho on there). Jericho vs Cena at summerslam, Shit I'm sold on going based on that match alone. hogan/hbk and matt/edge are just icing on the cake.

Speaking of which, I was on the crew of "When matt comes back, not if", but I didn't expect it to be tonight. I blieve the first 5 months were completely legit, and the last few weeks (Starting at the ECW ppv and the lita/edge wedding) were a work. I figured the wedding video recap was just annother week of lead-up, but when I saw Edge get attacked backstage, I knew it was Matt, even if he was a good bit larger. Does nobody remember what Edge looked like when he came back from his neck surgery? He was like Triple H jr. I figure that's just what WWE has you do with your time off: "Go to the GYM, take some HGH, hit the GYM some more, get some steroids, maybe get a few miles of aerobics in, but be careful not to lose any muscle mass."

I figured we probably wouldn't see Matt again, but the Matt run-in was telegraphed by the extra "security" running down the ramp around lita and edge during their entrence. I thought that was a bit weird at the time, although in retrospect it was perfectly justified since the two had just gotten attacked backstage.

Here's where it got confusing. For anyone who's ever been to a live show, you know that there are usually one to two legit crowd run-ins per show. Some drunk fan or a crazy bastard tries to get in the ring. They actually make it (and you see it on tv) like maybe one time out of 10. The other 9 times they get taken down so quick you're not sure you even saw it because security DOES NOT FUCK AROUND. These guys are usually 300+ lbs, and could easily be bouncers or wrestlers themselves. When Matt was beating on edge for more than 5 seconds, the inner smark in me started SCREAMING "I knew it, it's a work", but then Matt starts chanting ROH and I'm like "Huh? Why would WWE do that? Is this the new face of WWE, letting matt hardy, paul heyman, and RVD shoot all over the place for fan's ammusement? Is Kayfabe truely dead?". Apparently even Matt isn't sure since it was Adam and Lita not Adam and Amy. Regardless, I DID enjoy the hell out of the segment.

Piper still has it. He looks like a total wussy now, but he caries that mic as well as anybody ever has. HBK was playing a flavor of tweener we don't see done that often and we hardly EVER see done that well. Bravo to him... if only he hadn't done that stupid "too fast? headbutt the camera... hey look, a doughnut!" segment earlier.

Oh, as much as the wrestling fan of my youth inside cries at this, Hogan and Piper would be the most craptastic tag team ever at this point. Tajiri could beat them singlehandedly AFTER a match with chickenwing.

Verdict: 8.5/10 (as raws go), and a high point in what has been a very strong couple of months since basically the start of the draft lottery.
