That's true, you need to send the fans home happy on the biggest show of the year. So why not take the swerve a different route. Have Triple H beat Batista by interfernce and cheating, the fans are furious and booing then suddenly the winner of the Money in the Bank match (either Jericho or Benoit in this scenario) comes out and demands his title match right away. THen Jericho or Benoit upsets Triple H. That way you get a big swerve and the fans go home happy.

I think you and I disagree on what would send the fans home happy; you think any babyface winning the title is good enough, I think the resoultion to the feud they've been building since Survivor Series is the only thing to do it.

I hope they do-do that battle royal, it makes me smile when everybody gets their payoff and I would've rather had one Booker/RVD (w/ Jackie/Stacy) vs. WGTT (w/ Torrie/Sable) interpromotional tag match, one Rey/Chavo match, and a battle royal at WM20 than the two fourways, the tenway, and the lingerie tag. (Battle royal winner? Why, it comes down to Bradshaw, working as a heel after sneak-dumping Faarooq, and Matt Hardy, working as a babyface. Bradshaw wins to kick off The Year of JBL.)

Since I had the post written last night before my internet went down down down,

Well, there's a few things. While the logically-progressing booking mind would have gone to Hogan challenging Yokozuna to headline King of the Ring, the thinking was that if you got the belt back on Hogan right away, attendance (which had free fallen after Mania 8 when Hulk disappeared) would shoot back up and everything would be back to 'normal.' It didn't, but I suppose I can understand their thinking that after seven years of Camelot with him as the golden goose. Getting the belt back immediately was also possibly a Hulk suggestion that he gradually talked his way into happening. Vince's idea in making Hogan champion again was to then build to Hogan vs. Hart and a passing of the torch at SummerSlam, so to do that proper, you'd need the belt on Hulk relatively early, as opposed to at KOR in June.

Exactly. I think it's a very good heat angle for when the time comes to take the belt off of Dave. But that time is so not upon his immediately winning the title, when you're burning through months of storylines of The New Champion Batista in 10 seconds, giving him a minute-long first title reign, and making him look like an absolute goof -- for no real reason other than to say wow, we did that, aren't we cute.

This was in his news report today, so I guess it looks the battle royal is a go. I like this a lot more than getting everyone on the card by making three of four more multi-person that have no heat, no buildup, and won't go more than five minutes. Plus, I think we all know that battle royals are cool.

Well it would make me happy to see Jericho finally beat Triple H and get that huge monkey of his back not to mention have a World Title holder who is capable of putting on World Title caliber matches, but I guess that's just me.

Yeah, I know. I'd still mark out for it though.

Quezzy, I agree that it would be nice for Jericho to eventually beat HHH and get that monkey off his back, and i think it would really help his career. But to say that HHH is A World Title holder who is incapable of putting on good matches is untrue. He's not on the top level in terms of ability to work a match, but when put up against an opponent who can hold up their end, he is more than capable of having very good matches.

That said, i'm not sure i like the idea of the battle royale being on the WM card. If its on Heat, fine, but it seems like putting a previously unannounced match on the biggest show of the year is a bad idea.

I don't think Triple H is not capable of putting on a WM caliber main event, he did it last year, he's done it in years past. I don't think Triple AND Batista can. Triple H and Benoit sure, Batista and Benoit, Jericho and Batista, Edge, and Triple H, etc etc, all of those combos are good except Triple H and Batista. This is the biggest show of the year and it just looks like while the middle portion of the show could be great the last hour with JBL/Cena, Triple H/Batista and probably Trish/Christy is going to be a snooze fest.

I'm interested to see that if this Battle Royal thing comes to fruition, what (if any) the prize will be. Maybe an announcement of the annual draft lottery with the Battle Royal winner being granted immunity.

World Heavyweight Championship Match
Triple H (C) vs. Batista

I think Batista's definitely going over here. He'll feud a little bit with Triple H, maybe even giving him a rematch at Backlash, but Batista will retain there and go on to defend against other top challengers. I think WWE's very high on Batista, even though they don't really understand his appeal. Just goes to show you that sometimes the fans can alter the storylines, because who would've seen this as a potential WM main event last year?

Prediction: Batista

WWE Championship Match
John Bradshaw Layfield (C) vs. John Cena

I agree that they won't want to have both titles change hands at WrestleMania, because Cena's victory would be overshadowed by Batista's. I'd say JBL retains here, but Cena gets the belt within the next couple of months, probably at Judgement Day. Although I think he's the wrong choice to win the title. Then again, JBL's already beaten everybody else.

Prediction: JBL

Kurt Angle vs. Shawn Michaels

I'm of two minds about this one. I'm gonna go with Angle here, because I think this will probably be his last WrestleMania match and he deserves to go out with a win.

Prediction: Kurt Angle

Undertaker vs. Randy Orton

I don't think anybody wants to see Orton defeat Undertaker. He certainly doesn't deserve the honor of ending the streak. Which is why WWE will probably give it to him. But I'm gonna go with Undertaker here and hope I'm proven right.

Prediction: Undertaker

Sumo Match: Big Show vs. Akebono

No way Akebono jobs in this match. If it's worked, he wouldn't have agreed to job the contest, I don't think-- he surely doesn't need the money. If it's a shoot, Akebono ought to kick Show's ass, seeing as how Show's never been in a sumo match, right?

I just fail to see how this match helps The Big Show. And even if he wins, it's still, "Whoop-de-fuck, you got your first WrestleMania victory in a match that lasted 30 seconds, and wasn't even a 'match' by pro wrestling standards."

Prediction: Akebono

Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio

These two are gonna put on a phenomenal show. The real winners will be the fans, but I'm gonna go with Rey here as the victor, which'll make Eddie even crazier than he already is.

Prediction: Rey Mysterio

WWE Women's Title: Trish Stratus (C) vs. Christy Hemme

I'm thinking the Playboy headline was a spoiler, and that WWE actually is stupid enough to put the belt on Christy Hemme (or, as The Rick calls her, "Spaz").

Prediction: Christy Hemme

Money in the Bank Ladder Match: Shelton Benjamin vs. Chris Benoit vs. Edge vs. Christian vs. Kane vs. Chris Jericho

I'm gonna go with Shelton Benjamin here, because he'd be a fresh face in the World Title scene. Although I wouldn't expect Batista to win the title later in the night if Shelton won the ladder match. Do I contradict myself? Very well then I contradict myself-- "I am large, I contain multitudes."

Prediction: Shelton Benjamin

Orton's weak in many areas, but if they're gonna move him to SmackDown and make something of him as a heel he NEEDS to win here. He's been making stupid, unfulfilled promises for the past eigh tmonths and the fans have crapped all over him. One more-after a character shift and a supposed fresh start wit hhim-is just gonna destroy him. Give him the victory here, however, and he's got a great calling card and a ready-made spring feud, potentially culminating in the trump card of a Hell In A Cell. Putting Orton over is good business. Burying him because "he doesn't deserve it" is as shortsighted as anything HHH or Taker himself has pulled politically in the past five years.

What, immunity from being drafted away from a show that couldn't come up with a decent angle for said wrestler on the biggest ppv of the year? I think a guaranteed brand switch would be a much more appropriate option.

Now that I think about it, I think it'd probably best if they had JBL go over tonight. If Batista wins the World Title to close out the show (which he should), then it'd probably overshadow Cena's win. John should have his own night, and Batista's win will probably overshadow whatever John does tonight. I say have JBL win the match in some sneaky, underhanded way, and have Cena continue to chase the title and win it sometime further down the line.

Also, the more I think about it, the more excited I am about tonight's card. There's only 8 matches, 2 of which you know won't be given a lot of time (Show/Akebono, Trish/Christy). That leaves a LOT of time for them to give the matches that really need it a lot of time. They can give Eddie/Mysterio 20 minutes if they want, they can give Michaels/Angle 20+ minutes, they can give the two main-events time to develop, the six guys in the ladder match time to get all their shit in, and Orton/Undertaker whatever time they need. It shouldn't be a rushed card this year, and I think that'll work out to the advantage of the show....... I still wish Paul London had a match, though. But that's just because I'm a mark for him.

It should be a solid card, after looking it through.

The next RAW PPV is Backlash on May 1st.
The next Smackdown PPV is Judgment Day on May 22nd.
Somehow I think they'll do the double-switch JUST so they have some way of filling that many weeks of TV with something other than HHH/JBL telling us how they turned back another challenger.
