A sad, but true story. Way back when I was a wee little kid, I used to get dropped off at a local skating rink on friday nights and was picked up Saturday mornings; it was this all nighter, baby sitting type thing but for slightly older kids. I remember being in the fourth grade when this happened, so it was 1981. ANYWAY, on one of these friday nights, we were all treated to this wonderful concert by Styx, where they performed the whole KILLROY WAS HERE album... in a skating rink... for about 60 children... and they ROCKED!
The only song any of us knew was MR. ROBOTO and they played it again as the encore.
Good times, good times...

I'm not a big country fan, but I grew up listening to it so I have to give it respect. At the very least, George Jones' "He Stopped Loving Her Today" it at least in the Top 100.
Nice to see two of my favourite songs in the top 50 though: Imagine and In My Life.

One of the neat aspects of this list was that I was able to discuss and debate songs on this list with my parents, who were surprised to see so many songs from the 50s-70s.
One of the unfortunate things for me as a Canadian was the serious lack of "Cancon". It's understandable, given that few Canadian acts break the US market, but a lot of great songs are missing. It is great to see The Band get their props, though.
Given this list and what our country's gone through with "The Greatest Canadian", I'm willing to bet there'd be interest in a Top 100(200?) Canadian songs list.

I know Rolling Stone is all about ground breaking at least they claim to be with their high Nirvana ranking, and even though I'm not a huge fan of them one has to wonder where all the Pearl Jam is?
I am happy about Cash and Sly Stone getting some much deserved props.
I can just see the Kurt Loder types brooding over a list such as this, but the again any list that includes ABBA can't be all that bad now can it. | The Red Sox Fan

| #48 Posted on 10.12.04 0730.44 | Just came across this thread, and it definitely accomplished the goal of the list. It's meant to spark debate and gather opinions, so to RS, kudos!
Radiohead represented twice, with "Paranoid Android" at 256 and "Fake Plastic Trees" at 376. Certainly, I would have hoped for a higher ranking and the inclusion of "Karma Police" or "Let Down" or "Fitter, Happier". Also, since the proceeds from the single sales of "Lucky" went to Bosnian refugees, you'd have thought the so-called hippies that put together this list would have given it a shout-out.
