Thanks to Wrestling Observer:

Raymond Fernandez, who was a WWF star in the 80s and a New Japan star in the 90s as Hercules Hernandez, was found dead on Saturday morning, having died in his sleep.

Dewey Robertson announced that Hercules had passed away at the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame banquet last night. We have since confirmed the story is true.

Fernandez was living in Tampa. At this point the cause of death is presumed to be a heart attack, pending an autopsy.

Hercules worked all over the world, working for several years as a heel in the WWF, including wrestling Ricky Steamboat at Wrestlemania II. He and Scott Norton, as the Jurassic Powers, were a major tag team during the glory days of New Japan Pro Wrestling, feuding with teams like the Steiner Brothers and the Hell Raisers.

I've been re-watching a lot of the old WrestleManias in anticipation for this year's show, and it's REALLY sad to realize how many of those men have since passed away.

RIP, Hercules Hernandez

I still remember vividly Hercules' WWF debut, Greek leather body armor and all. This gimmick was a childhood favourite of mine, as was his impressive press-slam (before Warrior ever did it). It's a shame when you see how many of these guys die young, no doubt from years of hard living and bodily abuse.

Rest in peace, Herc.

So sayeth Randy Stilton.

The sad thing is, reading that report, doesn't that sound a lot like Road Warrior Hawk? And didn't Hawk sound a lot like Davey Boy Smith? And didn't Davey know what I mean...

I know with each man that passes we hope it's the last, but instead with each name that appears in a similar story it kinda reinforces the fact that there are going to be more before too long.

RIP Mighty Hercules

Best Herc match I ever saw was a taped on one Sunday night... it was when Mr. Perfect had the "perfect record" thing going. Hercules had him SO close to being pinned, I was going nuts.

He didn't pull it off, but I had a soft spot for him, ever since.

Hercules was one of my favorite "mid-carders" back in the day when I was a kid (before I knew what a mid-carder really was and meant) ... When is all of this gonna end? These guys are going way too young.

May he rest in peace.

Is this the same Hercules from Power & Glory?

It's kind of a moot point, since it's a tragedy either way. RIP Hercules

Wait…if it’s MLK Jr. Day AND Pat Patterson’s Birthday…who gets the token win here?-- Matt "Excalibur05" Hocking on a match between Mark Henry and Rico

MH: What’s a clever way to say that I have a penis?
CJ: Uh…Mark, nobody’s going to buy that shirt.
MH: How about if I say that I’ve got…a…uh…?
CJ: Coming up with T-Shirt ideas is hard Mark, why not leave it to the WWE marketing department.
MH: I know! I’ve got it!
CJ: Got what?
MH: Stank! That’s Mah Stank! I’m gonna make a fortune!!
CJ: “That’s Mah Stank”?
MH: On the front it’ll say “Can You Smell It?” and on the back it’ll say “That’s Mah Stank”. Everybody’ll buy it because they’ll think it’s a Rock shirt.
CJ: You know…you might be on to something there, sad to say.
MH: I can’t wait to show mah stank to Trish.

You know, I have a feeling that Spanky didn’t quit, he was fired. Why? So they could repackage Mark Henry as “Stanky.” Think about THAT!

yep; and on the subject of that team, they had a very cool look/finisher going on, i.e. herc would superplex the guy, and roma would jump 2 seconds later and hit a splash.

This really sucks considering I marked out when Herc was choking out the Warrior with the chain at WM4. Gotta love that theme when he was a face though. Sounded like something from Medieval Times or something...

I think it'd be nice for the WWE to do a video package at WrestleMania that included all the wrestlers that have died over the years that have appeared in a WrestleMania.

But I doubt Vince would want to shine the spotlight on all the wrestlers who have died (most prematurely) over the years.

Hercules Hernandez was one of the few wrestlers I had the chance to meet in person and talk to. He wrestled in an indy show promoted by Jacques Rougeau in Rimouski,Quebec 6-7 years ago. I just saw him backstage and I marked out. He was real cool. I still have his autograph somewhere.

That chain swingin' entrance that would send he heels scattering was bad-ass. He's been gone a long time, and he seemed older, too. Still, a shame to see him go. Later Herc.

I'd tell you to kiss my ass, but I don't want to get it infected.

I can still remember Herc having hogan in the rack on Saturday Nights Main Event. Ventura was screaming bloody murder saying Hogan quit! I wanted him to beat Hogan that night soooo bad...

It is getting out of hand how many of our childhood heros are no longer alive, so young too.

I hate to say it, but Steriods killed a lot of these guys.

Dont be surprised if ball players start dropping dead in the next 5 years.

RIP Hercules. I was a fan.

He was one of those I like to watch, maybe not remember when it came time to think of old legends, but I like watching his matches back in the day.

Be miss.

My favorite Power & Glory match was thier squash of The Rockers on a Summerslam in the early 90's. Their finisher was pretty sweet.
Someone mentioned doing a film tribute to all the past Wrestlemania performers who had died. That would be nice but it would probably take an hour or more. There's been so many. Damn!

Alright Brain, you don't like me, and I don't like you. But lets just do this, and I can get back to killing you with beer.

I've got that one on tape...SummerSlam 1990 from the Philadelphia Spectrum. Power and Glory go for Shawn's "already injured" knee early, and he spends the whole match lying on the ring apron, clutching it in agony. It's a 2-on-1 as both Hercules and Paul Roma gang up on poor, Marty Janetty. Janetty almost wins at one point (and I think, even hit the Rocker Elbow), but eventually got the powerslam/supersplash finisher. 1-2-3, CRZ jobs.

The buddy I watched WWF with at the time (hadn't heard of WCW) had neighborhood punks messing up his folks' house all the time. Back then, we decided to wait for 'em in the bushes, catch 'em, and give 'em the Power & Glory finisher.

Lucky for them they didn't show up during those 20 minutes...

Anyhoo, RIP Hercules. Thanks for the memories.

I'll also throw in some love for Hercules's babyface entrance. I loved the way he swung that chain around.

Hercules represented a simpler time when wrestling was fun. There were no real complicated storylines. One of my biggest Hercules memories was his feud with Billy Jack Haynes over who had the best full nelson. Simpler times, indeed.

I'll miss the mighty Herc. He was more than a midcarder to many of us. He even got the Wrestlecrap salute for his time as Super Invader.

RIP Herc

Edge: So Triple H wants me to come to Raw and fight him for the big gold belt. I've TOTALLY passed you on the card.
Jericho: Yeah, but while Triple H is burying you, I get to make out with Trish in front of millions. You tell ME who the winner is here, junior!
