Mad props to the Evil Empire tonight they never gave up.

Rivera show tonight why he is the best relief pitcher in the history of baseball.

Great job pitching by Mussina.

Grady little is now the most hated person in the history of Boston. There is no fucking reason why he should have left Perdo in this game after the Bernie Williams hit. You have been using Timlin/Williamson for the 8th/9th all playoffs why the hell do you leave Perdo in after Bernie Williams.

WHY THE HELL DO YOU LEAVE PERDO IN AFTER BERNIE WILLIAMS!!!!

Theo has a tough choice right now. Do you let Grady manage your team next year which the player want? Or do you let him go for GROSS mismanagement. If you keep him you lose any or all good well with the fans you have from this year.

Again mad props to New York.

What a fucking disgrace.
Grady Little needs to be removed as manager NOW. As in, today.

Frankly, Boston would've been better off pulling the old New Jersey Devils move of firing the head guy two weeks before the playoffs....Little should never manage at any level again.

After NY tied it up, you knew it was over. It was only a matter of who would hit the walkoff, not if.

Yankees/Marlins.....fuck this.

You just don't count the Yankees out! Aaron frickin' Boone?!?!

What an intense, near heart-attack inducing series that was!! I still can't believe that! One of the best ever!

Hey, I'm going to give it up to the Sox for fighting every single step of the way. And I wouldn't start calling for Grady Little's head yet. The guy just went with his instincts. Pedro was was pitching great the whole game, maybe he genuinely thought he could have pitched to Matsui. Still, that's nothing to fire a manager over.

I also want to give honorable mention to Wakefield, despite the home run tonight. He really gave the Yanks trouble this series, probably more than Pedro.

Now to take care of the Marlins.....

Aaron Boone!!!!

Oh shut up. There is zero excitement from a Yankee victory. It's a fucking inevitability. Your payroll is $80m higher than anyone else's. Yawn. Grady GAVE you this game. One man is responsible for tonight, and it is Grady Little, not Aaron Boone.

Edit: And no mad props to NY. Fuck NY. Tonight was a gift, wrapped up special by Grady Little. NY may win tonight, hell, they may win tihs year. But some day soon it will be our year. The Epstein Era is here, and the era of Yankee dominance is on its way out.

Go Florida.

I... I just can't deal with this. I tried, but my attempts to deal with it involved incredibly criminal and possibly suicidal behavior. I... no, nevermind.

I will paste, here, what I wrote on the OO boards:

GRADY LITTLE, YOU MUSH-MOUTHED CHILD-EATING VAMPIRE FUCK! MAY THE RUSTED COCK OF JESUS GOUGE OUT YOUR EYES!

You should have had Timlin warming up to take the eighth. Instead, you pushed Pedro. Only after the first out and some trouble did your midget brain realize the possible shortcomings of keeping Pedro on the mound.

I sat in an Irish pub, sitting arm-by-arm with the very Irish owner, hurling devastating epithets at you and your children. You heard me, Grady. Your time will come. Soon.

You ripped the last of the soul from the World Series. Dusty did most of the work for you.

Fuck you.

Anybody see ABC's "World News Now" overnight program? For the sports part of the show, the Red Sox fan male anchor sez, "We have 2 words for sports this morning: Go Marlins." Of course, the Yankee-loving female co-anchor wouldn't let it die...damn you...

There is no World Series this year. I'm no-selling it. Jesus H. Christ Almighty, way to ruin Thrillsday Night Karaoke, Grady. Like I used to say when just a toddler, watching horrible Packer games: "You bums! You bums!"

I guess I must really be a Red Sox fan now...'cause this feels just like after the Pack lost Super Bowl 32 to the Broncos...and I felt like crap for a week.

Bring me Grady's head on a platter. My Boston-born Irish roommate needs a doorstop.

There is no God. If there is a God, he is bitter, vindictive and purchasable.

Grady Little should be publicly disemboweled with a wooden cooking spoon.

Aaron Boone should be dragged into the street and shot.

George Steinbrenner should be forcibly kept alive no matter what happens to him, and then drawn and quartered while we think of something even more fun to do to him.

I hate having to go to school today. I am going to kill something.

For keeping Pedro in AFTER he got hit hard in the seventh and was getting rocked in the eighth, Grady Little should have his toilet paper replaced with roof insulation. I think he was confused, because he wanted to wave in Bob Stanley, but no one by that name was in the Sox bullpen.

It's hockey season, baby.

EDIT: I sat there in the eighth inning last night, screaming at the placid face of Grady Little on my TV after each hit, wondering why he was defying all known rules of logic.

And then it hit me.

Pedro Martinez is not Curt Schilling. There is/was no need whatsoever to ask him if he was "okay". How many athletes, when faced with that question in a HUGE situation, are actually going to admit that they are shot??? Of course he's going to say he can go. I understand respecting what Pedro has accomplished throughout his years in Boston, but he's not a workhorse-type pitcher with 250 innings per year. He's just not. How does the manager not turn to the pitching coach, if he has a question about Pedro's potentially being done, and say "What do you think? Is he done?" This whole "Don't disrespect the ace by just yanking him without his opinion" is bullshit. If the guy, in your opinion, is done, then get him the fuck out.

I'm just so utterly disapointed with this. Words cannot truly describe it.

Unfortunately that exchange is what I woke up to this morning after going to sleep with the Sox up 4-1. I just had this feeling that the sox were going to lose and I couldn't force myself to stay up and watch the collapse when I knew I would be coming to yankee party at work today.....

They say that those who do not learn from history are doomed to repeat it...

CUBS: Five outs from World Series with tiring starter on the mound.
SOX: Five outs from World Series with tiring starter on the mound.

CUBS: Dusty leaves starter out there, Prior loses lead.
SOX: Little leaves starter out there, Pedro loses lead.

CUBS: Lose game and series.
SOX: Lose game and series.

Little must've TiVoed the NLCS or something. Fucking horse's ass. Why do you have a bullpen? Did you think Pedro was going to get LESS tired all of a sudden?

Actually, they only pay thier players 64 million more than any other team. The fact of the matter is, you stupid morons in Boston can never hire a manager with any common sense! Thank you! It was a great game and a great series, but in the end, the team that played better won. Its funny how all you SAWKS fans wanna cry about the yankees winning all the time, and saying its because of thier high pay roll, but hell, I would be more pissed that the SAWKS spend 104.8 million and cant win.

To call it a gift is not giving credit to the Yankees. THey hung in there, and got basehits in clutch situations. Boston gave a great challenge, no denying that, but in the end, the best TEAM in the series won.

ANd yes, someday soon it will be your year, but it just wont be THIS year.

You’ve got no trouble losing when you got a good excuse. Winning. That can be heavy on your back too, like a monkey. You'll drop that load too when you got an excuse. All you gotta do is learn to feel sorry for yourself. One of the best indoor sports, feeling sorry for yourself. A sport enjoyed by all, especially the born losers.

- Bert Gordon, to Fast Eddie Felson – The Hustler, 1961

The fans of the Chicago Cubs and Boston Red Sox get no sympathy from me whatsoever. All I have heard all post season was “curse” and “luck” and “woe are us, we will lose, it’s in our destiny”. Well, you’ve got that last part right. Of course, Curses, Destiny, etc are all a bunch of hogwash – all I can say is that it’s a good thing you have Dusty Baker and Grady Little to blame…no way in the world it could be the fault of cities that cry the blues when they lose, even though they have conditioned themselves TO lose and then revel in the fact that they have an excuse and were proven RIGHT. Go ahead and Second Guess the Manager’s decision to leave their Numero Uno pitchers in the game maybe a pitch or two too long. Or blame The Goat. Or Babe Ruth. Or some sort of mysterious “curse” that follows your teams. The fact is, neither team is capable of handling winning and therefore, will always be the losers. Hey, someone has to finish second place, might as well be the teams with no heart.

And that’s what it all boils down to, in my opinion - HEART. Sure, the Yankees have an obscene payroll, but that doesn’t mean that can’t be beat – Boston had them dead to rights, on New York's Home Turf and the Yankees managed to win. Why? Because they have HEART and know in their hearts that they WILL WIN and that’s just the way it will be.

Ditto with a young team from Florida, who have played balls out since just before the All-Star break. Boston and Chicago, on the other hand, were looking for an EXCUSE to lose and, like all losers, succeeded in spades. At the moment, Sox fans are calling for Grady Little’s head on a stick – someone has to take the blame. Why not blame Manny Ramirez? He is the one who decided to half-ass it during the season, taking days off when he felt like it, Pennant Race be damned. Do you think it would have made a difference if The Sox had won the AL East? Why not blame Nomar? He was a ghost throughout most of the postseason. But no, Little will take the brunt of it, because all of us know how to Coach a Major League Baseball team better than the person paid to do the job. Hindsight is 50/50 and believe me, if Pedro had gotten out of that inning, and the Sox would have won the game, Little would have been placed on a mantle for his Managerial Skills and the cojones to stick with his ace. The same can be said for Baker and his ace, Kerry Wood. But that never would have happened. The Cubs and Red Sox, and their fans, are born losers (when it comes to baseball) and nothing short of Divine Intervention will ever change that fact.

And while you Cubs and Sox fans are on your pity party trip whining about curses, read the part in the Curse, Spirits and Other Mythological Nonsense book about BAD VIBES. Most of what I have read and heard from Sportswriters and fans revolves around this statement - “We KNEW we were going to lose!”…well you got your fucking wish. Both teams…good riddance. Born to Lose and that’s the way we like it. A series between these two teams (or if one or the other were involved) would have been an embarrassment to Baseball fans and humanity in general.

Matsui, Giambi, John FLaherty, David Wells Mike Mussina, JOse Contreras and Roger Clemens. The only people on the Yankees Roster who were picked up via free agency. Wells and Clemens were both pretty much given up on during thier last contract signing, nobody wanted Wells when he left Chicago, and the word was Clemens had "Lost it" (HAHA!) when he resigned in 2001. Everybody else on thier payroll was gotten the old fasion way, either through trades or brought up through thier farm teams. Pitching really does win games, and it seems the Yankees spend a lot on it, deservingly so. Nurture talent in the minors, or trade your prospects for quality players. SPend when you HAVE to, to keep a great player. Is that really such a hard thing to do?

The average adult human heart beats 60-80 times a minute. I don't think mine was anywhere near that last night. What a fucking game. What a fucking series!

It was everything I thought it would be and more. Does baseball get better than a do or die game in extra innings with two teams (and fans) that absolutely HATE each other?

I would so love to point out the flaws in Little's grasp of fundamental baseball, but it's hardly necessary. I'm sure it was difficult for Boston to even lift their heads off the pillow this morning...and that's good enough for me.

So, now the Marlins. Should be fun, and if they bring the intensity they've been flashing lately - it will make for some beautiful baseball.

First of all, John Flaherty plays for New York? Wow.

Second, who hit that homer last night? Aaron Boone, a guy acquired in one of those dubious "trades" that is more or less one team cutting salary. The Yankees have the money to cut their losses if Boone didn't pan out.

I would also like to clear up that I hate only Clemens and Wells in terms of individual players on the Yankees. Joe Torre is one of sport's classiest guys, as are Bernie Williams, Jorge Posada, Mariano Rivera, etc. Even Derek Jeter, who I assail as a punk-ass pretty boy, would pretty much become my favourite player should he somehow get dealt to Toronto. I just hate how the Yankee organization is able to dominate baseball because the league doesn't have a harder salary cap. The playing field is so laughably tilted in their favour that even other big market clubs (Los Angeles, Chicago, even the Mets) are left in the dust.
