Yeah, Roger is a grudge holding bastard. And he throws rock hard things at (or near in this case) people. But I guess Manny making sure he kept his bat in his hand, so he wouldnt get his ass kicked easily is a whole other story, right?

The fact is, Manny is a bitch, and if the Yankees DO sign him after this season, I will finally have somebody to replace Cecil Fielder as my least favorite Yankee of all time.

Oh, and Wells starts the next game for the Yanks, he is upset, and he is nearly automatic as it is. Good job stirring him up boston. He will pitch a terrific game.

But, if you seriously think the Red Sox are winning three in a row, including two in the bronx, you are sadly, sadly mistaken.

If you had a piece of wood in your hand and had the aforementioned rock hard sphere thrown at you, would you put it down as the thrower and 8 of his closest friends (one in full body armor) surrounded you?

Wrongo! Mussina and Wakefield are starting tonight, and Game 5 will be played in Fenway tomorrow with Petitte and Derek Lowe pitching. That's two at Fenway and a whole cadre of pissed off Sox fans leading the charge down to the Death Star for one final showdown with the Evil Empire, as they send Darth Vader himself out against our own version of Luke Skywalker (minus the whole father thing).

Manny is a fucking joke. Harold Reynolds broke down each pitch of this at bat, and if you look at each pitch, MANNY BAILED OUT ON EACH OF THE FIVE PITCHES IN THE AT BAT!!

Blame it on Pedro. Men on second and third, no outs, and he is getting HIT, with lefty Matsui just doubling into the stands. He is faced with a lefty batter with a righty on deck who has done little to nothing in this series. Pitch to the righty, correct, as strategy might dictate? Fuck intentionally walking Garcia, though. Pedro seemed frustrated, so maybe he just plunked him. Now, with Clemens on the mound, after hitting Garcia (who ain't exactly Reggie Jackson, pitch to him), his teammates HAD to be thinking, "oh shit, one of us in the lineup is getting it in the ear..."

Hey, did Pedro go for his head? Who knows? But, if you say NO HE DIDN'T! (red sox fans), then make sure you go back and check to see if you bitched at Clemens when he beaned Piazza in the head. Is it different? Who knows, who cares.

Also, my opinion on Zim is this: If a guy in his early 70's who is in horrible physical condition is charging at me pissed, I just chalk it up to the same logic of hitting girls. Take a 72-year-old's smack and restrain him if I need to from doing it again. The worst it could do is sting. I am a few years older than Pedro, and maybe a little bigger (and in far poorer shape), but that's what I would do. If I am 72, no way do I go after a guy like Pedro no matter HOW pissed off I am, but on the other hand:

a) I didn't ever get beaned in the head.
b) Spend a few weeks in a coma because I got beaned in the head.
c) Have a metal plate in my head.

Zim did (does).

I could give a shit if Garcia and/or Nelson get charged. If they did something wrong, pay the price. Of course, a normal guy wouldn't get in an athlete's face and not say himself, "Self, might I possibly get an ass-kicking here? Um, self, I think the chances of that might be good. Ok self, maybe I will just scream and cuss them out from a safe distance. Self, you go on with your smart self."

I thought the move by Boston management (or whoever) to cut off beer sales was a really interesting move, and classy. I mean, that can't be an easy decision to choose NOT to sell $7.50 beers to 50,000 people. Very impressive, I believe.

As an aside, bleeding pinstripes, as I do, I really do like Nomar. I have always thought of him as a respectable sort and a terrific player. One of my favorite baseball moments was a few years ago, when Jeter pinch hit for him in an All-Star Game, he (Jeter) comes to the plate and before he steps in the box, does all of the Nomar mannerisms.

"Firstly, you must find... another shrubbery! . . .Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must place it here beside this shrubbery, only slightly higher so you get a two-level effect with a little path running down the middle. Then, when you have found the shrubbery, you must cut down the mightiest tree in the forest, with... a herring!"

The matchup today is Mussina v. Wakefield in a repeat of Game 1. Game 5 will be Wells v. Lowe. The Yankees will be saving Petitte to load up for Game 6. If the Sox are down 3-2 for that game I think they blow their wad and use Pedro on short rest. I can't see Burkett pitching a win or go home game. I also want to see if mayor Bloomberg makes good on his quote to arrest Pedro after his next start in NY.

So the rain day isn't that bad for Yankees cause at least Rivera gets an extra days rest. I don't know any other closer who gets as many 2 inning 1 run saves.

You're a fellow Sox fan, so I hate to do it, but I call bullshit. Nomar may be in a hitting slump, but so are Kevin Millar and (AL batting champ) Bill Mueller. Nomar is still making nasty catches and getting bastards out in clutch plays, which is more than I can say for his Yankee counterpart, Derek fucking Jeter (who decided he was good, anyway?). Nomar throws like Thor when shit needs to happen. Just because his hitting is sucking it up lately doesn't mean we have to crucify him. We've been neutralizing big hitters on the teams we've faced in this postseason, so it can't be that surprising that they've neutralizd some of ours. I say lay off of the guy and shoot your vitriol at worthless fucks like Sauerbeck instead of two-time AL batting champs with some nasty postseason stats.

However, I am bombed right now, so I disavow any opinions I've made here come morning.

    Fuck the Yankees.

I won't rip Mueller; because he actually got some big hits down the stretch of the season (and would have had an insurance RBI in game 1 of the Oakland series if Grady had pinch run for Ortiz in the 8th inning), but I do agree that Millar has gone bad the second half as well.
As for my ripping No-Arm: Forget the playoffs for a moment, and look back on the last 2 months: 2 week stretch from August 8th thru 22nd with ZERO RBI's (with series against Oakland (twice) and Seattle) in the time frame. A minimum of 5 games during that two week stretch where he came up with the tying or winning run on base in the 8th inning or later and didn't get the run in. Hitting a buck seventy in September, as he mastered pop-up with 2 on and 2 outs to first. He's turned into Wade Boggs 1992 overnight. For the first 4 months of the season, I had complete faith when he came up in a big spot. Now, I just hope he at least pops up or strikes out with less than 2 outs so that he doesn't hit into a double play and kill a chance for someone to actually drive in a run.

Here's the incident, as I have heard it:

Sox turn douple play.
Gorundskeeper celebrates by waving his towel around.
Towel may or may not have accidentally hit Nelson.
Nelson attacks groundskeeper along with Karim Garcia.
Cops seperate them.
Guy yells at Nelson.
Garcia hurts his hand getting back onto the field.
Guy has cleat marks on arms and back.

I believe it was Fenway managment that did that, though they may have needed to get permission from Aramark who, IIRC, sells all the food at Fenway. I don't know how much a brewski goes for at Fenway, but I do know that the park's capacity is nowhere near 50,000. I think it's more along the lines of 34,000, and that's generous. Why do you think Fenway has the highest ticket price in baseball? Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if they suspend beer sales for the remainder of the games at fenway and, if they do, if the Yankees will follow suit.

Well, If I was gonna be yelling at a now unarmed man, who in fact, never actually HIT me with a baseball, I think I would have enough confidence in myself to put the bat down.
BTW, didnt know the Yankees were the only ones at the stadium, and Manny had no back up.

The Yankees weren't the only ones at the stadium, but they were the closest ones to Manny. As the Sox dugout emptied, so too did the Yankees'. Eventually the sides would have been equal but until then I wouldn't put down my bat.

Draft beer at Fenway is $4.95, which is quite a steal compared to the paper cup swill they serve in the Bronx for $6+. However, I will give the Yanks the advantage in that they have the 16 oz. plastic bottles. (Well, and beer guys in the stands. Stupid Boston Puritan laws!)

They were selling beer at the park last night before they sent everyone home. Nice how they were able to get the extra revenue from concessions, etc. They didn't tell us the game was off until after the Cubs/Marlins game ended. Oh well, I'll be back tomorrow.

They wouldn't have started the game until after Cubs/Marlins because of Fox's asinine national scheduling shit. Why even bother having FX if you don't use it?

As for Pedro, my opinion is that he was wrong to throw at Garcia. Clemens was also equally as wrong at beaning Piazza. Clemens and Pedro both have well deserved reps as headhunters (at least Pedro never threw a piece of a bat at anyone, which Clemens can't say the same).

What is different is that none of the Sox have publically defended Pedro. Todd Walker said after the game about Garcia trying to take him out on the double play: "Yeah I felt Garcia was trying to break my leg but, if their pitcher had just thrown at my head I'd probably do the same thing he tried to do to me."

What did Zim have to say about the Clemens/Piazza events?: ''I don't believe there's a human being in professional baseball who would throw a ball hoping to hit a man in the head,'' Zimmer writes. ''I was disappointed with Piazza coming out and saying Clemens threw at him on purpose. What's Clemens supposed to do? Throw the ball over the plate so Piazza can keep hitting home runs off him -- or make him feel uncomfortable?

''I've been hit in the head twice, and without the benefit of a protective helmet,'' he adds, alluding to when he was a shortstop in the Brooklyn Dodgers organization. ''The problem you have in baseball today is that hitters don't know how to get out of the way of pitches because pitchers are afraid to pitch inside anymore.''
Interesting stand by Zim considering his actions in game 3 and since Clemens has hinted at throwing a people before. And as Big Bad said earlier: For Roger Clemens (OF ALL PEOPLE) to complain about someone else's headhunting is as laughably hypocritical as Deion Sanders taking an NFL player to task for celebrating after a TD.

Also, while Zim is twice the age as Pedro he is also probably twice the weight as Pedro. You can complain about Pedro throwing at Garcia, I won't argue. You can complain about Pedro's ineffectiveness in the postseason so far, I won't argue. Red Sox fans can complain that next year Pedro will be the highest paid #2 starter in baseball, I won't argue. But as far as the incident with Zimmer, Pedro has every right to defend himself.

A national sports radio show (can't remember which one) made a good point. Clements and Pedro feel they can "send a message" because they can hide behind that stupid DH rule in the AL and not have to worry about retribution. If there were no DH rule, those fools would think twice about beaning somebody when they're up to bat in the next inning.

All the blame for this lies SQUARELY on Pedros shoulders. Because the umpires let him talk shit to them, everybody else in baseball is supposed to sit back and allow the same childish shit to occur? Heyheyhey! Let's make other people responsible for Zim's actions - because he's old! If Pedro has punched his lights out, and then given a few kicks while he was down, yeah, that'd be way too much. But Pedro knocked the guy down. If Zim didn't wanna get knocked down, maybe he shouldn't rush out to fight. "He provoked me to rush out and get my ass kicked!" doesn't hold much water with me.

Zimmer apologized for making an ass out of himself. I don't understand why the rest of you (Here's looking at you Bloomberg!) have to go out of your way to make asses of yourself for him.

-Jag

It'd be nice if Pedro said, "I'm sorry I pushed you down so hard" though. Or has he already done that?

Zimmer should have never charged Pedro in the first place, after all, he's 72 freakin' years old, he should know better.

Second, the people I was watching the game with thought it was D. Wells at first. Its an easy mistake to make, both being old, fat, bald guys in a Yankee uniform. Its now being reported that Wells injured his groin during the melee.

Are you completely fucking stupid, or just the ultimate homer? He sidestepped him? With a hand on both sides of his head, rotating around as Zim went by, and rolling/twisting his head?

Pedro didnt beat up an old man, he threw him to the ground. Either way, its just him being chicken shit, and taking things out on helpless people (you know, like batters standing there, waiting on a pitch). Granted, Zim should have known better, but still.

Notices that some Cubs fans got some enjoyment out of seeing the Gerbil prove that weevil wobbles do fall over. All we need now is for Texas Ranger fans to chime in and the trilogy of teams that the Gerbil mismanaged through the years can get a collective laugh. For leaving Butch Hobson out there while making over 40 errors with Jack Brohammer on the bench is cause enough for the Gerbil to get thrown down at Fenway. Unfortunately, it was a generation to late. Besides, Zim has probably taken worse beatings from friendly 'collection agents' when he bet a wee bit to much on the #3 dog in the 6th race at the dog track.
