Ok, it's a misleading thread title, but I was hoping someone could shed some light on this...There is a yellow piece of paper on Jerry's refrigerator on most episodes with the letters EWR on it...I've also seen the same piece of paper on the Costanza's fridge. I never would have noticed this oddity if the letters "EWR" weren't so popular on this board. I'm fairly sure that Jerry or Frank Costanza aren't into fantasy wrestlilng simulations so someone tell me. What the hell does the EWR on Jerry's fridge mean?

3.12 What did the EWR on Jerry's refrigerator mean?

EWR is the airport code for Newark International.
Why it's on Jerry's refrigerator remains a mystery.

EWR seems like an odd short form for Newark.

A lot of airport codes are like that, having nothing to do with the city that the airport is in. That usually happens when the airport is named after a person instead of the city, like JFK in New York and CDG in Paris (CDG = Charles De Gaulle[sp?]), or if the logical 3-letter abreviation of the city name is already taken by another airport.

(I was pissed that I didnt recognize EWR because I work in the international shipping (freight forwarding) industry and it's my job to know these things. Plus, I'm a nerd and I like to learn & remember as many of them as I can.)

Does that explain why YYZ is Toronto?

Yessir!

As a matter of fact, all Canadian airport codes start with "Y". Montreal is YUL, Vancouver is YVR, Winnepeg is YWG, etc.

I have no idea why that is.

Isn't there some story to why Toronto got `YZ' though? I think the original airport, the Toronto Island Airport, was 'YTO' once upon a time, and so Pearson, the main airport, got stuck with one that made no sense.

That was the story my boss told me anyways, and he also makes a habit of memorizing all the airport codes...

It wasn't Jerry, nor Frank Costanza, but rather KRAMER that needed reminding to download Extreme Warfare Revenge...

I mean, it's Kramer, for God's sake! ;-)

I thought it was because of the Rush song.

Which came first, the Rush song or the code?

//edit:

89:What does "YYZ" mean?

YYZ is the transmitter code for Toronto's Lester B. Pearson International Airport. Every airport is assigned a unique 3 letter code, and that code is always being transmitted so that pilots can tell, roughly, where they are and verify that their navigational radios are tuned properly. These codes are also written on your luggage tags when you fly. The intro to the song is Morse code for "YYZ."

John Ambrose has pointed out that "YYZ" is actually pronounced "Y Y Zed" in Canada. This is documented in Visions.

I'd like to be the first to point out that i've never heard a single torontonian or other person refer to the code or the song as YY zed.

      (raises hand) I say Zed!

Z is pronounced Zed in Canada. And if you say YYZee, it sounds too much like YYC, and then your bags end up in Calgary, getting a headlock by Stu Hart.

If nothing else, this thread has finally answered a long-standing question for me, compliments of CRZ's link to that Seinfeld FAQ.

I've been trying to figure out what the song was Kramer and Newman listen to while making the sausages in "The Blood." It's Jackie Davis' Hammond organ version of "Manana (Is Soon Enough For Me)," originally sung by Peggy Lee.

Jerry Seinfeld at the Jubilee Auditorium...Calgary, Alberta...2 weeks from tonight. Third row. Yeah.
