Eh, maybe it was a last minute dealy- I think they were more worried about the cool codemane "Shock and Awe." Maybe at the last minute they realized that they needed one, and called Vince up- I recall that the Afghanistan operation had a cool name, but I forget already... damned MtV...
I think you just blocked that one out of your memory.
So it all depends on what you call a "cool codename." Also, just a random thought: is it really a "codename" if they're using it on, oh, EVERY major TV news station?
damn it- I had to go and look it up.- No, I was talking about the one last night - "Operation Valiant Strike." That was not a bad name. I guess hearing about it for like 10 minutes and then getting bombarded with "Shock and Awe" kind of made it near impossible to remember-
As far as "Enduring Freedom" goes- I liked "Infinite Justice" far better...
The last operation I can remember (well, previous to our operation in Afghanistan and the new war in Iraq) having a codename was the 1998 bombing of Iraq--"Operation Desert Fox" (which, as far as I can tell, did NOT feature James Mason as Erwin Rommel)
-LS "I don't know if we can beat these bastards." "Maybe not, but we don't have to JOIN them."
As far as "Enduring Freedom" goes- I liked "Infinite Justice" far better...
Problem is, apparently according to a Muslim doctrine I'm not especially familiar with, only Allah can dish out Infinite Justice. And if GWB is thought he could take care of the Infinite Justice, that would make him Allah, and we're getting into some really weird theology.
Cool name, but quite an international faux pas that could have been averted by, you know, ten minutes of research.
The commanders ordered the officers who raised the flag to take it down, apparantly. My first thought was that they raised the flag, then realized they were claiming Iraq and remarked "Why would we want it?"
Ah, the days of military imperialism are over...but the days of commercial and cultural imperialism are here to stay.
I had no problem with them taking down the Iraqi Flag- as long as they present it to the Iraqis when the war is over. I think that would be a pretty powerful gesture.
Yeah- raising the flag was a poor move, but these are some young guys out there, who likely did not realize the implications of what that really meant. Too many video games like Risk (the video version, of course) where your flag follows you over the territory you take...
Besides- the Iraqis will soon be raising our flag all over their country all by themselves-
Operation Iraqi Freedom??? you mean its not Operation Shawk and Awe? Can't the talking heads use a thesaurous? say something else. Oh and while your at it stop telling me that this isn't going to the original plan, YOU DON'T HAVE THE PLAN!!!! (edit): and if you did we would have to change it since you would have broadcast it by now.
(edited by brick on 21.3.03 1906) if "Washington is a Hollywood for ugly people," then, considering the remarks coming out of Tinseltown about Iraq, "Hollywood is a Washington for the simpleminded." John McCain
It's strange, because I was reading about this over on the other place and had no idea about the execution until I heard about it on the news last night. Possibly inappropriate plugs follow: It feels like 9/11 all over again... (The 7) Sniper caught!
