It seemed to be a fairly decent retooling instead of doing another "All Stars" edition. I had to question some of the "faves" though...Eliza? I don't really remember her for doing anything other than being annoying, and Parvati while nice to look at didn't really do anything else to stand out either.
As for the fans, too soon for me to have any real impressions about any of them other than Kathy the insane one.
And to be polite in case anyone has this taped:

| Jonny Fairplay is your first Survivor out. He basically quit, so my question is...What was the point of him being there? |

I'll be damned if Jeff Probst didn't totally engineer Fairplay's dismissal. He obviously quit, which was a stupid thing to do but there's documented bad blood between Probst and Fairplay, as you could probably tell from the second he was introduced. ("Dressing like me, Johnny?" "Would you like to know what your playing for, Jeff" "No, really, I like that your trying to improve your position in life, Johnny.")
Johnny may have quit, but Jeff was TOTALLY unprofessional in basically convincing the rest of the tribe that Johnny was scum. hell, even Eliza thought Johnny would be staying even AFTER he said he didn't want to be there anymore.
I read a story where they were casting the "Favorites" and Probst was dead set against having Fairplay in there. He said "I told the CBS execs I thought we didn't need Fairplay and they said, 'Thank you, Jeff. You may leave now.'" |

My wife & I still watch. I think a lot of the choices for the faves had to do with who was actually willing to do the show again. As for why Johnny was there, he said he was attempting to win to better himself and his girlfriend/kid. His mind just got the better of him after being out there for a few days.
I liked the Aspiring Writer who listed off the Fans tribe: Big Bird, the Southern Belle, the Incredible Hulk, Queer Eye - awesome. That Kathy is SO gone as soon as they get the opportunity. Nutjob Supreme. Especially to be all crying on the first freaking night.
Awesome takeout by Yao-Man. He shoulda kicked Johnny while he was down, too.

| #5 Posted on 8.2.08 1711.08 | I got re-hooked on this show during the China season and totally forgot last night was the premiere until 20 minutes after it started. It seems promising. I really dig the concept of Fans vs. Favorites despite the fact that I pretty much stopped watching after the first "All Stars". So, really, aside from Fairplay, James, and Amanda, I know nothing about the "favorites". Boy, did they get whooped during the first challenge.
The rumor i've heard is CBS really wanted to bring in Fairplay, but he wasn't as excited about it until they offered him some extra cash. Maybe that's why he didn't mind bailing out first.
I barely recognized Amanda, probably because I didn't see a huge blur over her butt.

We also began watching again this week and I must say we weren't unhappy to see Jonny go first. It may have been the other nine favorites just saying "let's just rid of him now to save the aggravation."
We play a pool at work each season and this year we got one favorite and one fan. I pulled Ami and Jason, so I at least made it through the first week!
CRZ had to edit my profile and close my table for me before, but I did this one all by myself with Frosty's help! |

We're doing the same thing, and I pulled Jonny for the "favorite". That being said I was still glad to see him go...he's just gross. And now if I win, I won't have to go take a shower. | dunkndollaz

| #8 Posted on 13.2.08 1243.37 | I am watching too. Loved that the Evil Jeff came out at Tribal and yes, he did orchestrate Fairplay's dismissal. He never should have been there to begin with.
Ossie & Amanda ? The new Rob & Amber ? Hopefully the players will see through the alliance this time and actually get rid of one of them.
James needs to stay away from Pavarti but.....
Loved that Fairplay whined to everyone about yau man and no one wanted to hear it. Also loved that the Fans smoked the overconfident favorites in that first challenge.
like I said in the LOST thread - is it Thursday yet ?
