I'm a little surprised at the lack of Survivor love on the board since Vanuatu ended, what, 5 years ago? I personally stopped watching from Exile Island through China, but have since got long caught up on everything I missed. (That's to say: Not much.)

However, the last two seasons have been excellent, and I'm excited for the upcoming Heroes vs. Villains season. I was one of the minority who actually enjoyed the first full fledged all-star season and am ready for another go around.

Here's our cast:

VILLAINS

Tyson (Tocantins): Personally, not someone I have any desire to ever see again, which is probably what CBS is gunning for. A self-absorbed jackass to the nth degree who finished way short of the money in his season, so naturally deserves more screen time.

Randy (Gabon): On the other hand, Randy is absolutely hilarious. His grouchy old man routine is at least partially an act, though his appearance at the Reunion show was dreadfully uncomfortable when he revealed he genuinely has absolutely nobody in his life but his dog.

Sandra (Pearl Islands): The winner of my all-time favorite season. Argument as to whether or not she is a villain, because she gained that status by thowing out the tribe's fish after Rupert was blind-sided and cursing out Fairplay, stunts that got her applauded back in the Real World. She's a villain in my book, I love Fairplay!

Danielle (Exile Island): This makes up some of the boob quota I guess, she was useless on her season. Villain? Only because she's stealing this spot from someone far more deserving I suppose.

Russell (Samoa): We're headed into Russell overdrive, and while the world came to love him towards the end of his season, I would expect them to turn on him just as quickly if we endure another full season of his antics, in the same manner we all got sick to death of Rupert after a consecutive year of his superman routine. Apparently this was filmed almost IMMEDIATELY after Samoa, giving him little recovery time; but as well, giving the players no time to learn anything about him. Advantage or disadvantage? I guess we'll have to see how it plays out.

Jerri (Australia): Seriously, just go away. Gained her fame by treating everyone else on her tribe like crap, had a second chance, and completely failed to live up to any kind of entertaining standards by spending the entire all-stars experience crying about how tough it was and following Lex around like a love-sick puppy, before storming off during the reunion.

Boston Rob (Marquesas): He probably didn't deserve his original All-Stars spot since he was elimited pre-jury in his season, but he built his name based on that dominating season and absolutely belongs back in the game.

Parvati (Cook Islands): Another one who didn't deserve a second change when she got one in Fans vs. Favorites, but man oh man did she ever kill the competition her second time around. She played every single person, man and woman, like an instrument and cruised to the final 2, winning the game in a breeze. Absolutely belongs here, but I bet the men don't see her as a villain.

Coach (Tocantins): The unintentional comedy scale may break this season if Coach tells any more campfire stories. Are Russell or Rob going to bite their tongues as hard as his tribe did before?

Courtney (China): The eyeball rolling bitch from China gets a second chance. Sadly, I had to go back and RE-WATCH the season to remember who the hell Courtney was. She probably doesn't belong if I were casting the show, but she was certainly a villain which is good enough for CBS.

HEROES

Rupert (Pearl Islands): Do we really need Aquaman back for a third go-around? Yes, I realize he's an automatic because America loves him, but I don't know if I can stomach much more of him.

James (China): Really now? This is his third appearance in the last 6 seasons, and he's supposed to be my hero because he got voted out with a shitload of immunity idols in his pocket? Come on now!

Colby (Australia): Another automatic, the original alpha-male. Colby is highly regarded as one of the toughest to ever play, but I fear that a lot of that reputation comes from competing with one of the physically weakest casts in history. Got royally screwed by a braindead jury, maybe they can right the wrong this time and give it to the person most deserving as opposed to the mom with the biggest boobs.

Cirie (Exile Island): More overkill! It was fun the first time, but that was all lost the minute she decided to stop being the lazy ass housewife who is afraid of leaves and start strategizing. (And at this point it should be clear I am not rooting for the heroes.)

Amanda (China): What the hell? Yes, she's made two final tribals, the only person to ever do so, but she made them both without doing anything memorable outside of performing live sex acts with Ozzy in the steamy Micronesian wilderness. Same as James, 3rd appearance in 6 seasons, and I genuinely hope this is the LAST time we ever see her.

Sugar (Gabon): The DESERVING winner of Gabon didn't get a single vote from a bitter jury who couldn't believe they were completely schooled by a tiny little pinup model. Set a record for most continuous trips to Exile, which was fine with her, because she could sit around eating fruit with the idol in her back pocket. It reached a point Exile became the Sugar Shack, hero all the way!

Stephenie (Palau): Now here's someone you can put in either tribe. If we're remembering Palau, it's hero. If it's Guatemala, it's Villain. I have never seen someone do a 180 quite like she did from season to season. The game is loaded with a lot of physical strength so she may not stand out, but if she can get an alliance, look out.

JT (Tocantins): It's amazing this guy is a hero, considering how much scheming he did throughout his season. Absolutely belongs in this game, and the fans at home adore him, because he charmed his way into their lives with his sweet Southern ways, while stabbing everyone in the back along his way to the cash. Fantastic gamer, very smart.

Tom (Palau): UGH! I can't STOMACH this guy. He is my #1 most hated all-time Survivor, because he's a bully, but plays himself as some kind of American hero. I get the whole NY Firefighter thing, but every time this guy speaks in his condescending tone to everyone around him I want to throw my cats through my big screen. Let's hope he's the first to go.

Candice: Really? A "hero"? Because she made one of the most dumbshit moves in Survivor history and paid for it BIGTIME? The producers seem to LOVE her, I don't get it at all.

FANTASY BOOKING SWAPS

So it's clear from my list I'm not necessarily fond of the cast. Whereas some I just flat out hate (Tom), I know why they're in the game. Others confound me.

In a perfect world, I'd remove:

- James, Amanda, Candice, Tyson, Danielle, Jerri, and Courtney. I'd also flip Stephanie to the villains.

And I'd replace them with:

- Mike Skupin (hero, Australia), Christy (hero, Amazon), Chris (hero, Vanuatu), Yau-Man (hero, Fiji), Johnny Fairplay (villain, Pearl Islands), Dreamz (villain, Fiji), and Shane (villain, Exile Island).

I didn't include Richard Hatch because he WAS invited, but couldn't leave the country due to his probation.

And... discussion open!

Has Johnny Fairplay burned his bridge there after bailing out during the beginning of the last all star edition?

Why was he not included this time?

Ladies and gentlemen, the following public service message is brought to you by your friends from D-Generation X, who would like to remind each and every one of you that if you're not down with that, we've got two words for you...

It's so hard for me to get excited for this season when the entire cast and boot order was spilled... in late October. Yes, those of us in the spoiler communities knew exactly what was going to happen in Heroes vs. Villains nearly two months before last season was over. (And no, I'm not saying a word here on the matter. Some judicious Google searching should lead you to the proper source.)

Part of the problem is, yes, some of this casting is utterly awful. Danielle, Courtney, and Candice clearly don't belong here, and I wouldn't have given anybody a third chance, let alone nearly half the cast. The reason for this is that it's well-documented that the casting director, Lynne Spillman, pulled a power play here, stacking the cast with players she had previously recruited and opposition they would do well against at the expense of other deserving names (such as, for example, Shane Powers) - which ended up getting under the skin of the one guy you don't want to piss off, Jeff Probst. CBS has renewed the show for next year, but Jeff's contract is up and it's highly possible that he'll walk away from the show unless he gets a greater say in future casting decisions. For the sake of the show's future, I hope Jeff wins the behind-the-scenes battle. Lord knows I'm done with Survivor without Jeff, and I'd be far from the only one.

While the switch from Cena to RVD should alleviate some complaints, the inevitability of the belt's return to Cena (note where Summerslam is this year) and the poor initial showing by the new ECW are enough to keep the indicator where it is for now. The pieces are in place, though, especially on RAW, for improvements to be made to the IWC's psyche in the near future.

I have watched every season and I am going to have to look at a cast picture to remember a few of these folks even with cfgb's most excellent preview. I am not a big fan of these all-star editions. I find it a lot more interesting when you don't know any of the people at the start.

It's just too bad that the Shambolicious One & her Mullet of Power wasn't physically able to do back to back seasons.

You're never going to get a perfect Survivor All-Star cast because of the simple fact that some people don't want to do it again. Yul Kwon and Earl Cole (both of whom would be on any 'heroes' short-list) are both on record as saying they wouldn't be involved in any more all-star shows simply because while they enjoyed the experience, they've had their fill of the game. It's also baffling to me that Survivor is doing another all-star season so soon after the Fans vs. Favorites series. I can understand them wanting to do something special for the 20th season, but in that case, just skip F vs. F and do a full-on reunion show here.

Texas Kelly is right --- there absolutely shouldn't be any third-timers in the cast. The one MAYBE exception I could make is for James, who had to leave due to injury in the final seven, but if we're bringing back players who had to leave due to injury I'd bring back Mike Skupin or Jonathan Penner before anyone else. Replace all of the third-timers with more people from the first eight seasons. I'd be interested to see what the likes of, say, Vecepia Towery or Brian Heidik could do in a modern Survivor game with hidden immunity idols, more tribe shuffles, double-elimination weeks, etc.

That's an interesting tidbit about Lynne Spillman. When, in fact, did she take over as Survivor's casting director? Was she the one who instituted the method of 'recruiting' players as opposed to just picking from applicants? Since that was unquestionably the reason why the last 6-7 seasons have had some of the most lackluster casts in the show's history. Then again, given Probst's man-crushes on athletic male players, I'm not sure if I'd want to see him given more casting input either.

Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.

I believe Penner was another one who expressed interest and got passed over by Spillman. My understanding is that Skupin's in the Kwon & Cole group who have moved on, though I'd love to see him get another chance because he really got dealt a bad hand last time with the accident.

I don't care to see Vecepia the hypocritical bitch ever again. She's still the worst winner ever in my eyes.

Interestingly, Spillman's been the casting director since the beginning. (I would have thought she came on somewhere downt the line too, but no.) Either way, though, it would have to be her who's responsible for instituting recruitment (which I don't like either).

What I've heard is that Penner was on the shortlist for the season, but got bumped at the last minute to make room for Russell.

I'm pretty sure Probst hates Dalton so much that he'll never be back on the show as long as Probst is there. I'm surprised he was invited to (and showed up at) the big 10 year anniversary get-together a few weeks ago.

She's pretty far down my list of winners too (Todd from China is still the worst), but this is actually why I'd like to see her back on the show. I'd be interested to see if she is actually a player or if she was a fluke. Though it's interested that they're bringing back past winners like Sandra, Parvati and Tom at all, given that they didn't have any winners in F vs. F specifically because they were too easy a target to get voted out.

And my fear with this trio is that they may wind up pulling an Amber/Alicia/Shii-Ann/Jenna Lewis and COAST to the end of the game due to the fact they clearly DON'T belong and everyone will be too busy trying to eliminate the power players.

Danielle is just beyond baffling, in the "why is AMBER here?!?" from All-Stars kind of way. If they needed a female villain, I can list MANY.

Season 1: Kelly, Sue
Season 2: Kimmi
Season 3: Lindsay

etc. etc. etc. There's at least 1 or 2 PER SEASON who'd be more worthy of a spot than Danielle. I realize Amy, for example, was a total flop on FvF, but we're not holding All-Stars against Jerri. Amy was the leader of one of the most powerful cold-blooded alliances of all-time. Or what about Corrine, the dramatic bitch from Gabon who (bluntly) told Sugar nobody cared about her dead father, and to take some anti-depressants and stop being a leech on society. That's pretty much the opposite of a hero.

Disappointing piece from TK about the "casting lady" who seems to be on a power trip. I genuinely hope Probst gets a say in the matter, if his blogs are any indication, he loves game players and characters. He damn near had a meltdown when Coach was voted off Tocantins.
