I just recently got the graphic novel versions of this storyline that ran a couple of years ago across many DC comics (though primarily the Superman titles), and I wondering if any of the board's comic fans had any opinion on it.
Personally, I thought it was WAY too overblown. The art was often too muddled to really tell what was going on, I needed a damn flowchart to keep track of every character involved, and the writing....well, the writing was not good. The only issues that seemed to have some wit to them were the Young Justice and Wonder Woman-centric stories. As for the Superman writers....blegh. Jeph Loeb's gimmick of interspersing the famous speeches throughout the issues got really tired really quickly.
Wait…if it’s MLK Jr. Day AND Pat Patterson’s Birthday…who gets the token win here?-- Matt "Excalibur05" Hocking on a match between Mark Henry and Rico
MH: What’s a clever way to say that I have a penis? CJ: Uh…Mark, nobody’s going to buy that shirt. MH: How about if I say that I’ve got…a…uh…? CJ: Coming up with T-Shirt ideas is hard Mark, why not leave it to the WWE marketing department. MH: I know! I’ve got it! CJ: Got what? MH: Stank! That’s Mah Stank! I’m gonna make a fortune!! CJ: “That’s Mah Stank”? MH: On the front it’ll say “Can You Smell It?” and on the back it’ll say “That’s Mah Stank”. Everybody’ll buy it because they’ll think it’s a Rock shirt. CJ: You know…you might be on to something there, sad to say. MH: I can’t wait to show mah stank to Trish.
You know, I have a feeling that Spanky didn’t quit, he was fired. Why? So they could repackage Mark Henry as “Stanky.” Think about THAT! --Matt "Excalibur05" Hocking, 1/19/04 Raw Satire

I really hated Our Worlds At War since it became Just Another DC Crossover. I'm worried that this year's DC crossover, Identity Crisis, will be the same. Every year they rant about the "Event That Will Change the DCU Forever". But what's changed? Batman's still Batman after Cataclysm, Knight's End, No Man's Land, Fugitive and countless other pointless crossovers...so, what's the point?

I'm still ticked I lost the compilation comic with every issue pertaining to the death-and-rise-of-Superman storyline of 1993.
At least I still have the Roger Stern hardcover novel...but you can't actually SEE the Kal-El mulletude he's a-sportin' at the end. (Or should that be "in the back?")
Star wipe, and...we're out. Thrillin' ain't easy.

I remeber (well, I really don't remeber..... but I've bought) the good old days where a crossover was one or two issues of Avengers and Fantastic Four branching into each other. Nowadays it seems, every since the grandstanding X-Men ones that you need to buy 80 issues to find out what goes on, some aren't even good (crossovers), most have no to little effect in the long run (maybe wipe out a minor character), and some are even now being made simply for Trade Paperback style. That's what I've loved about Avengers the past few years.... easy to follow without buying 8 billion comics.
