I was a little let down by the ending, it just didn't make sense, but overall it was almost like watching a different movie. And I must say, a much better movie than the one we have seen over the years.
I admit, I loved the Richard Lester version, but I guess it was because I didn't know what I was missing. It's like loving bread, and then realizing how much better it is when you put peanut butter on it. The Brando scenes are great, and make much more sense than the scenes with the mother that were used by Lester.
I think the Donner commentary track should be interesting too. Highly recommended.

Either way, I'm excited about this one and hope it's all that it's cracked up to be.
Now if only those stores can get some more copies in...
"That's the thing: Maybe he'll be up and down this season, but when he's up, is there another center in the league quite like him? He protects the rim, passes out of double teams, has great hands around the basket, up-fakes on his jump-hooks, rebounds in traffic, even has a motor that keeps going and going (unlike a stiff like Eddy Curry). I'm not sure what's missing here. This is stunning. This is startling. There's almost no precedent for it. Just what the Lakers needed: More obscenely good luck. Meanwhile, I have to watch Al Jefferson whip jump-hooks off the front of the rim for the third straight season. I will now pour scalding hot water down my pants." -Bill Simmons on Andrew Bynum (11/08/06) | SchippeWreck

As we've been reporting over the past 2 days, bonus content was omitted from the "Superman III: Deluxe Edition" in the 14-disc "Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition." Furthermore, disc one of "Superman: The Movie - Four Disc Special Edition" did not include the Dolby Digital 2.0 mix. Neither disc is known to be physically defective in any way.
I may still pick it up and deal with the hassle of returning the discs, because I know the set won't be on sale anymore once the corrected versions hit the stores. It's like "Back to the Future" all over again. (Did the corrected versions of that set EVER hit stores?)

I have seen this posted in areas where that info has come up but I cannot confirm it, but this was on Amazon.com:
Looks like Warners is going to the replacing the discs after all...

Warner Home Video wants to extend apologies to all of our loyal Superman fans who've waited so patiently for these great collections and has taken immediate steps to correct these errors with the intention of standing behind our product 100%.
Replacement discs can be obtained by calling: 800-553-6937. The exchange program applies only to purchases of the "Superman III Deluxe Edition" in the "Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition" and to disc one of "Superman: The Movie Four Disc Special Edition," available as a single title, as well as in "The Christopher Reeve Superman Collection" and in the "Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition."

| #9 Posted on 2.12.06 1814.58 | Instant Rating: 7.30 | I know this is a bit late, but I just found the Donner Cut today and watched it through a few minutes ago. I probably watch the original 1977 Superman movie once every few weeks, so I was a little excited to see things might have been improved from what I rememeber of the sequel.
I have to say that I really enjoyed this a lot more than the "original" Superman 2. Without spoiling anything, the ending made me go a little "c'mon" but at least there wasn't any of that "make up whatever weird powers as we go" that Family Guy made fun of. Parts that made me cringe the first time around were gone, or else changed enough to fit with the Superman character we all know.
Overall the movie just seemed more streamlined, and I like the story with Jor-El. Parts including him had a STRONG 'Smallville' feel to them, which helped link the show and the movies a bit more.
Definately my favorite version of Superman 2 EVER!
But in all seriousness, recommended for anyone who liked the first movie.
