This creative game allows you to play the first Super Mario Bros. game as Mario, Samus, Link, Mega Man, Simon Belmont or Bill from Contra. Everyone moves like they do in their original game (only they can jump a little higher), and the theme music changes to match the character, as well.

Apart from the fact that Link really, really sucks, this is a fun game! I usually play as Mega Man, Samus or Bill myself, except in situations where I need to run to collect the Koopa-induced 1-ups, in which case I play as Mario.

Actually, here's something I figured out later... if you slide as Mega Man, you can keep pace with the shells. Good luck jumping out of their way when they bounce back, though...

Oh, and the Contra guy just made a complete joke out of 8-3.

The Contra guy pretty much brutalizes 4-2, also. Especially when he's got firepower, of course. No more careful jumping over those Goombas when you shoot the blocks right out from under them!

With precise-enough timing, it is possible to jump over the Koopa or Beetle shell on the rebound if you stop your slide early enough as Mega Man. But it's also possible to slide so well that you end up in front of the shell as it moves its way forward, killing yourself.

Yeah, the more that I play it, Bill R. and Simon are nice for that part of 4-2. A few axes and the Goombas just waddle their way into a hole, you jump over that, and Simon gets to suck at a later part of the stage.

So, uh, yeah... also, this.

Hell yes.

Wow, I love this thing. I actually couldn't do as well with Ryu as I did with Link. But just hearing the music is worth the trouble with the controls. Now if they can just get this mapped to the original Nintendo and/or the classic controller for the Wii, I would buy it off of the VC no matter the price.

The new version's nice (I especially like the new music), but they nerfed Mega Man's jumping ability a little too much for my liking. Yeah, I know they normalized it to Mega-Man-game standards, added Rush, and gave you the option to disable the timer, but still: You can't get the second Fire Flower in 1-2 without using Rush. Grr.

I still like it, though. And moving the "special" button from S to C was a masterstroke. S was annoying to get to. Make it C, and it's more like playing a Genesis game.

Never mind that powerup, you can't even make some jumps in 1-3 without using Rush. It's ridiculous. Although in his defense, Mega Man was kind of overpowered to some extent before... charged shots, rapid-fire normal attacks, sliding to offset not being able to run. Between all of that, he was probably the most well-rounded character besides Mario. Now, I'm not sure if he takes a back seat to Ryu (despite HIS lack of vertical offense).
