I'd take the '84 49ers over the '85 Bears. Only lost a close game on the road at Pittsburgh in their run to 18-1 and then blew out Marino's Dolphins in the Super Bowl, while the '85 Bears only loss was a rout to Marino's Dolphins. And, while the post-season run was impressive for the '85 Bears, the NFC Title Game against the Rams was over the instant the Rams exited the locker room and hit the cold. And, for those who believe Rice was responsible for Montana, the best Montana team didn't have Rice.
Something from the coin toss that irritated me: When honoring Walsh, they announce 3 leaders from Walsh's 49ers teams: Rice, which is true, Lott, which is true, and Young, who rode the bench until Seifert after Montana was hurt. Never heard of a back-up quarterback being a leader before.
Ray Handley never happened. It was a collective nightmare. Let us not speak of the buffoon again.

Point taken, though I still reckon t'was silly. 4th and 13 is a low percentage play even for an on form Pats offense, and if the 8 yards you lose on a missed figgie are that important then just punt it and back em up inside the 10.

I guess they've been going for it all year though and doing pretty well out of it, so second guessing em now is perhaps silly in itself.

If only the Pack had made it through they could reasonably have gone for it on anything up to 4th and.....ohhhh...lets say "26". [/cheap shot]

The 1985 Bears also only lost their game with their starting QB injured, and the Dolphins getting some incredibly lucky bounces (I recall one ball bouncing off one guy's helmet, another guy's hands and falling into Clayton's arms for a huge gain). It would be a hell of a matchup though. Figure the 84 Bears did a good job on the 49'ers defense in the NFC title game, and then beat them in the 6th week of 1985.

I don't have time to do this, so it's a gift to you:

Someone MUST do a video montage of the Patriots set to 18 and Life.

1)Remember, the Bucs spent 25 years in the same division as the Bears and Packers. For a lot of those 25 years, the Bears and Packers were good and the Bucs were a laughing stock. Most of those losses were to one of those two teams. 2)
