Giants 17, Patriots 14

The Giants? Seriously? Dammit!

And the worst part isn't even that I have to hear about the Manning brothers winning back-to-back Super Bowls (because Joe Buck wasted NO time jumping on that train).

It's that this is the EXACT SCORE that bigmouth Plaxico Burress predicted! Unbelievable!

Perfect for 18 games and 3 quarters does not equal a perfect season. Goodbye '72 Dolphins, hello '98 Vikings.

EDIT: Or not. The prediction was 23-17, but it still stings to see Burress make the winning catch.

Eli escaping the sack late in the 4th quarter and Tyree catching the ball with his hand and helmet was one of the best plays I've ever seen. Great game and congrats to the Giants.

No it's not.

How about Eli Manning's performance? MVP! Holy shit. I went absolutely bonkers in the 4th quarter when he evaded that sack and David Tyree SOMEHOW came up with the catch. That has to be the most miraculous play I've ever seen in a Super Bowl.

Hell that whole damn game was probably the best SB I've seen. It ranks up there at least with the Pats over the Rams. Man, I love this game!

Nah, he said 23-17. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22904976/ But Tom Brady looks like an idiot, for laughing about the 17 points, and then only scoring 14. And Belichick looks like a world class asshole for not even sticking around for the last play.

Belichick did what he was suppose to do. He went and shook hands with the opposing coach after the game was over. He shouldn't have to take criticism just because a second was left on a technicality.

I'm still half expecting my alarm to go off in a minute here and I'm going to have to realize that it's actually 8am Sunday morning, and the game hasn't happened yet.

And of course, Mercury Morris is on ESPN RIGHT NOW gloating. I'm fairly certain he's been the worst part of this.

Otherwise, I'm actually looking forward to having to get up at 7am tomorrow now, I have a feeling it's going to be a good day.

Just unbelieveable.

When they came up 1 yard short after getting the ball back up 10-7 in the 4th quarter, I could see everything collapsing. Tyree should have been MVP off the TD catch and the miracle catch on 3rd and 5 that changed everything in the game. Underrated play of the game: After the Manning pick, the Giants stuff the Patriots on 2nd and 1 and 3rd and 1 at the Patriots 40, forcing a punt after the Patriots had scored on the 1st drive. That stop changed the momentum of the game.
IF Shockey doesn't break his leg, the Giants aren't Super Bowl Champs. With all the big catches Boss made, it is fairly certain Shockey would have dropped a few of them, and probably a few of the ones Steve Smith caught would have been balls landing just outside of Shockey's hands, with the requisite temper tantrum following the play.
Now, can I please beg every team in the league to start the season 1-1 next season, thus Mercury Morris can go back to his institution before the summer concludes.
In the 13 years they have done football, I have not seen FOX have as many problems with the clock as they had tonight.
I'm guessing Cowboys at Giants in the Thursday night opener next season.

For a game where I didn't really care about either team, I was pretty much glued to the screen the whole time.

Amazing fourth quarter. This will be one of the most memorable Super Bowls ever. Tyree's catch was right up there with Franco Harris's "Immaculate Reception".

Congrats Giants.

Greatest game of all time. My god. This is the best thing to ever occur. The only drawback is that it makes the Steelers' wild card run two years ago really pale in comparison. It seems like the Patriots just can't get past the Mannings.

Agreed on both points, didn't really care who won, just for a good game. That catch...holding the ball to his helmet until he got his other hand on it...amazing - just like the Giants D.

Welcome home, men of the 2nd Bn, 127th Inf, 32d "Red Arrow" Brigade, WI Army Nat'l Guard! Good luck to those down south.

I call shenanigans.

99 out of 100 other times, the ref'll blow the whistle and call "in-the-grasp." This ONE time he doesn't, and THAT happens.

Between that and him eating Al Harris alive 2 weeks ago, Plaxico Burress just earned himself a #1 spot on my "ON NOTICE" board.

Between that and the 1st half call where the Giants moved, and the reaction from the Pats' OL draws an offsides call, this referee crew made some glaring errors. Enough to hopefully keep every single one of 'em out of Super Bowl XLIII.

And note to Asante Samuel: when you have your hands on a championship-clinching interception, CATCH THE F*CKING BALL, YOU MORON.

Enjoy free agency, you idiot. Go. Go away. NOW.

Plus it bugged the hell outta me, as a Packer fan, that every other Packer fan in the room was cheering for the Giants. Hellooo...they TOOK OUR NFC TITLE. At Lambeau. And you wanna pull for them? What happened to good ol' fashioned REVENGE!?

New York Giants, you're dead to me.

When do pitchers/catchers report?

F*ck.

Well, the whistle DIDNT blow.

The call goes against the Defense if the defender tries to make the Offensive player flinch, that was a legit OOOOPS, and he got back down.

All of that doesn't matter, when Brady was looking at the roof of the stadium half the game, and looking like he didnt know where he was for another 1/4 of the game. For one forth of his time out there, especially in that fourth quarter, he was lights out, good old Tom Brady. The rest of the game, the Giants Defense made him their bitch.

Nobody respected the Giants, and Frank Calliendo was the only one to take them out of the four on Fox.

Everybody wanted to jump on the undefeated bandwagon and swing from Brady's nuts. Now they can choke on them!

18-1 Tom, that's a hell of a winning percentage.

How fun is this? For years we had to listen to Pats fans talk about how they owned Peyton. Now they can't even beat Eli.

Wait, someone needed to see Belicheck stomp off the field to realize he was a jerk? Thought he made that clear well before now. Nice postgame interview too, you big baby.

I had to fight so hard to not believe in the 4th, as I knew the Pats would come back. Sure enough they did. I mean I realized in college Eli was a scrappy kinda player, I just didn't think he had this in him.

This is like such a wonderful moment. To start the week like this, I'm now convinced my man Obama is gonna sweep Super Tuesday and FSU is getting Julio's signature on Wednesday. Done deal.

I'm in total shock that the Pats O-Line was used and abused so badly for all four quarters.

I see people in other places calling this the biggest choke ever, but I don't buy into that. It was a great upset, but hardly a choke. The Pats didn't get steam rolled and played good football the Giants just played out of this world when it counted most.

Belichick should probably be put on suicide watch for 48 hours, he did not look good, even for him, after the game.

The Pats just got beat, and I feel sick so I will write no more about this for now.

EDIT: If this team couldn't go 19-0 I fear the team that does

Stevie Spags just wrote his ticket as a head coach. I can't believe the Giants D-line dominated the Patriots' offensive line so thoroughly. The D-line should've been en masse named the MVP.

As a Packers fan, should I be happy that GB played one of their worst games of the season and still took the future Super Bowl champs to overtime? No? Okay, just checking.

Fun fact: This ends the longest pro sports title drought (seven years) in New York City's history.

“How is it that I am a good actor? What I do is I... pretend to be the person I’m portraying. You’re confused.
Case in point: in Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson comes to me and says ‘I would like you to be Gandalf the Wizard,’ and I said ‘You are aware that I am not really a wizard?’ and Peter Jackson said ‘I would like you to use your acting skills to portray a wizard for the duration of the show.’ So I said ‘Okay’ and then I said to myself ‘Mmm.. How do I do that?’ And this is what I did: I imagined that I was a wizard, and then I pretended, and acted, in that way on the stage. How did I know what to say? The words were written down for me in a script. How did I know where to stand? People told me where to stand." -- Sir Ian McKellen, Extras

Holy freakin' crap! That was just unbelievable. I gotta put that up there with the Titans/Rams game, which I put up as one of the best ever. Eli came of age tonight and now I don't have to hear anything about an undefeated Patriots team.

I feel somewhat happy that Belichick made himself look like a gigantic asshole by pouting off of the field when there was still time on the clock. And then his postgame interview, why don't you give credit where it's due, dick!

We lost to the Super Bowl champs, which is better than losing to the team that lost to the Super Bowl champs. Plus OUR O-Line did a very good job stopping them, which the Patriots couldn't do. But it was an easy call for me, as I hate all things New England (which overrode my hatred for Tom Caughlin and Eli Manning, as well as my hatred of the '72 Dolphins).

Congrats to pieman. Your team came on when it mattered most.

Sorry, Thrill, I gotta echo Mr. Boffo on this one. I hate all things New England (sports wise that is), and it irked me all year that everyone made such a big deal about the Patriots going undefeated. All I kept thinking is "It doesn't matter unless they can win the big one too." Well...they didn't. So can everyone shut up about the Patriots and can we move on now? Tom Brady is not the greatest quarterback that ever played the game either. I'm not even saying Brett Favre is. Hell, I don't know who is but it isn't Tom Brady.

I guess it also helps that the fiance is a lifelong Giants fan as well--and loves me and the Packers enough that he cheered for US during the NFC Championship. So for him, and for Pieman, I say GO BIG BLUE...congrats :-)
