RealGM.com's Christopher Reina has learned that Quentin Richardson will be dealt to the Knicks in exchange for Kurt Thomas and a future conditional number one draft choice. This deal is pending league approval and should be formally announced after Game 7 of the NBA Finals on Thursday.
The deal was confirmed to Reina by a source close to the trade negotiations.
There was little doubt that one of the Suns’ five starters would not be back for the 2005-2006 season and Richardson is the player that Bryan Colangelo and the Suns have decided to move. The move indicates that Joe Johnson is the shooting guard that the Suns want on their team long-term.
Thomas is signed through the 2009 season, while Richardson, whose game overlaps with Johnson's, is signed through the 2009 season as well and the Suns have a team option for the 2009-2010 season.
Richardson averaged 15 points and six rebounds per game in his first season with Phoenix. He made 226 3-pointers, tied for first in the NBA with Philadelphia's Kyle Korver, with the high-powered Suns, compared to 120 in his final season with the Los Angeles Clippers.
I'll reserve judgment on this for a while. Zeke absolutely refuses to trade for defense and/or low-cost players.

This whole situation is pretty sad. Houston's a good guy and while he had no D, he could shoot the lights out when he was on; but the combination of Scott Layden's stupidity and Houston's knees giving out is what caused this mess in the first place. And Zeke isn't exactly handling this all that well, either.
Again, I'll wait and see how this goes. I'd much rather they blow it up and start over but "you can't rebuild in a large market".

Also, the Knicks would actually be crazy to release Houston. True, it would lower there luxury tax payment. However, his contract is close to becoming a valuable commodity for a team looking to bottom out and get under the cap. I'll use Boston as an example. Should they trade Pierce to Portland for #3 and Van Exel (doubtful, but theoretically it works), the Celtics would be slighlty under the cap, a bad team, and still have some bad contracts. However, they could then try to help Isiah overcome his fear of big men by trading Raef Lafrentz's contract of death, Mark Blount's contract of stupidity, and a Tony Allen for Houston. Boston waits for Houston's contract to expire to get well under the cap just in time for the James/Anthony/Wade free agency class to arrive. | BOSsportsfan34

I actually like that idea RSN, but I'd try to substitute Banks in place of Allen. I don't think even Isiah is dumb enough to do that trade though, even if the C's throw in the Laker 1st rounder plus another future 1st.
