I'm probably getting a Gamecube very soon, and aside from that Paper Mario game that looks like fun, I was wondering if any of you great people would like to reccomend any other games for me. I kind of want at least one game I can play with other people who don't know how to play video games, so something like Wario Ware? I don't really like sports games, so none of that. And any other generally great game, like Wind Waker I hear is wonderful so I'll probably try that.
Thanks, you guys. You're great.

Edit: Thanks for your suggestions! So far I've gotten Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Rouge Squadron, and Smash Bros. And...that'll probably be enough for a little while.

My just-starting game library:

WWE Day Of Reckoning: Great if you're a wrestling fan, of course. Fun story mode where you take your created wrestler to the top.

Simpsons Hit & Run: Kind of like GTA in the Simpsons universe, albeit without the killing, wanton destruction and overall "crime". You go around driving vehicles and completing missions. Very fun if you're a fan.

Enter The Matrix: I'm a Matrix geek so I picked this up. Fun for the various fighting moves.

Spider Man 2: Awesome. Awesome. Awesome. Like the ads say, you get to BE Spider Man as you take him all over the city and fight everyday crime while following the story from the second movie. It's pretty cool when you get to watch the sunset from atop the torch on the Statue of Liberty. Did I mention awesome?

Projected buys:
- X-Men Legends
- Terminator 3 Redemption
- [maybe] Super Mario Sunshine, if only because I'm a Mario geek as well.
- Ultimate Muscle: Legends VS New Generation

Look who I met NOW, suckas.

Wario Ware's kind of a twitchy game... if you don't know exactly what you're supposed to do ("CREATE!" means... you guessed it, mash A) you'll get frustrated, but it WILL be fun as hell.

Wind Waker's a touch hard to learn, or at least was when I rented it. Also LOVELOVELOVE THUG. Sonic Collection's also solid for about $20, if you want the reissues (look for the Ocarina of Time/Master Quest disc if you can, but HOPE that the Classic Zeldas bonus disc is under $50).

My mostly non videogame playing girlfriend (and HER friends) truly do enjoy playing Mario Kart Doubledash. Eternal Darkness is a GREAT game, and you should give it a rent at least. Super Smash Brothers Melee isn't as good as the original (IMO) but it's still lots of fun. Wind Waker, Wario Ware, and Mario Party 5 are also good choices.

Games I haven't played but may eventually play whenever I get bored of City of Heroes:

X-Men Legends
Whatever the new Mario Tennis game is called
Paper Mario
Donkey Konga

Animal Crossing.

I literally got at least a year's worth of gaming out of that game.

If it's a first-party Nintendo title - buy it. I'm racking my brains here, but I can not think of an exception to that rule. (Wario World is pretty lousy, I guess.) Specifically, I'm sure you can get a copy of Super Smash Brothers for, like, $10 these days. I still can play that game for hours, and I've had it since the day it was released.

"It's not a matter of whether the war is not real, or if it is. Victory is not possible. The war is not meant to be won, it is meant to be continuous. Hierarchical society is only possible on the basis of poverty and ignorance. This new version is the past and no different past can ever have existed. In principle the war effort is always planned to keep society on the brink of starvation. The war is waged by the ruling group against its own subjects and its object is not the victory over either Eurasia or East Asia but to keep the very structure of society intact."

Anybody played the Resident Evil re-releases? I haven't seen much in the way of Nintendo exclusives that appealed to me with the exception of them, but still haven't picked up a GC.

They're true to the original, in terms of story, but there are some cooler elements and way better graphics. Too bad RE games do very little for me, but my buddy (a RE freak), loves all the RE games on the Cube. In short, if you love RE games, and don't mind that the crappy controls and camera haven't been fixed after 900 games, then you'll really like the Cube RE games.

Luigi's Mansion is worth around $15 - don't pay full price for it. It was a launch game and has some rough edges, but it's an OK title if you can appreciate it in context for the system.

I can easily recommend:

Mario Golf
Mario Party 4,5
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Metroid Prime
Game Boy Advance Adaptor
Super Monkey Ball (multiplayer - solo game not amazing)
Zelda: Wind Waker

Animal Crossing was a lot of fun, then a little fun, then really annoying - then kind of melancholy. I loved the game, now I hate it. You kind of have to experience it to understand.

I wasn't too happy with the Star Wars Rebel Assault game that came out.

Tony Hawk 4 was good - but I've had better luck with the Tony Hawk games on the Xbox so I've moved to buying them there, so I don't know if THUG1 and 2 are good on the GC. I'm sure they are fine.

NFL2k3 is probably $5-$10 if you can find it, and it's pretty fun. It's the last Sega Football game for the GC, but if you liked that engine it's worth picking up.

I liked Mario Sunshine, but my wife doesn't like it. It's an aquired taste - I rented it when it first came out and I hated it.

Many people swear by Super Smash Bros, but it's not my favorite fighting game. I never really got into Powerstone or Powerstone 2 - and that's really the game I can best compare it to. You may really like it.

Pikmin 1 was entertaining - I rented that a long time ago. If you like puzzle games and remember Lemmings fondly, you may want to check out Pikmin 2. You can probably find the first one used for under $10.

The only game I would recommend against is Skies of Arcadia. This game looks worse than it did on the Dreamcast in my opinion. It just doesn't play like a GC game.

Actually, Phantasy Star Online 1 & 2 isn't so hot either.

Good luck.

I'm surprised that nobody's mentioned Namco's Tales of Symphonia. Yeah... the lead female is a ditz, but the game play is different to me and for only playing more-or-less the first level at a friend's house, I thought it was pretty darn decent.

Ah, I forgot! Custom ROBO! That game is loads of fun. Oh, and there's the new Mega Man collection.

Haven't played other versions of it, but THUG is as advertised. Controls really intuitive, graphics fine (although there is a wee bit of slowdown)... great.

And I haven't seen SSBM under $25, but I'd still get it at that.

I was also going to say Mario Party 4 and 5.
And Mario Golf.
But do not get any WWE games for Gamecube. They completely suck. Just frustrating beyond all belief.

Not to argue with the guy who runs the board, but I think you'd have to be out of your mind not to like Skies of Arcadia. One of the most fun RPG's I've ever played.

Problems with Skies of Arcadia in general:

Save points
Primitive graphics

Problems on GC version

Looks worse than the Dreamcast version.

Other than that, I'm sure I'll finish it some day.

Thanks for your replies, everybody. I'll be sure to let you know what I eventually get. Right now, Wind Waker and Metroid Prime and Super Monkey Ball 2 and Smash Bros. are looking good for right now. I'm mostly looking for good slightly older games I can pick up on the cheap.
I also would like to ask if anyone here has any experience buying imported Japanese games, and if there were any reliable vendors for those games. Also, if there's a way to go about being able to play them without installing a modchip or anything of a warranty-voiding nature, I would love to hear about it. Thanks for your helpfulness!

I would stick with domestic games for the GC. I don't know of any mod chips that allow you to play foreign games - I think all games work on all systems but you'd need to check with an import site before trusting me. Lik-sang.com used to carry Japanese DC games - you may want to try there for Gamecube. I can't recall if the name is hyphenated or not and I'm not motivated enough to look it up for you
