Any chance you guys can cue up that feature here on the-w? I think it would be really useful and convenient. If it's really hard to do, my apologies. Just curious.

Give me an example where it has been done - I'm not sure what you want to see.

Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.

He wants to be able to subscribe via email to a thread, so he can post in a thread, decide that he wants to know when it's updated, and the board will mail him every time someone posts to it (either with the contents of the post, a URI back to the thread, or both).

At least, I assume that's what he wants. That's what "subscription to a thread" usually means. Of course, in our case, this would be a really bad idea unless we were actually validating people's email addresses (the fact that we don't is bad anyway, and someone who's spam-conscious like me really should have fixed that long ago).

Perhaps once the latter issue is worked out, one of us can slap in a subscription option too (it's not really all that tough to do... Just a hook on post that looks for users subbed to the thread and pings them).

Oh, I'm sorry sir. I didn't mean to infer that you might be poverty stricken. Should I revise my statement to make it clear that you have way more money than brains?

Or maybe he's talking about RSS (which acmlm's board is now doing), but Aaron and I have already decided against implementing anything like that over here - or at least, that's what we decided the last time we talked about it.

I've never demanded an email address out of people as a prerequisite to registering and don't plan on changing that policy. Recently, we modified the profile page to not display email addresses when the page is hit by lurkers or bots, while logged in users CAN see them... if they've been defined.

Thanks, I felt dumb being the only one who could't do it.
