It is also the only convenience store I have ever been to that will allow me to read a magazine cover to cover without any harassment from the cashier who, by the way, alternates days he chooses to wear his toupee. Kinda defeats the purpose, no?

| #24 Posted on 3.7.04 0146.30 | Instant Rating: 8.00 | Hate to respond almost four days after Z told of his ATM story, but I think I can top him in the "D'oh" department. First off, about a year and a half to two years ago, I left my PNC Bank (a tremendous institution, btw) Check Card in an ATM by my house in suburban Pittsburgh. I didn't realize this blunder until the next night, at which time I was in Cleveland. Thankfully, my brother told me to call PNC and have them freeze the account (they did). I got my new card and all was fine with the world, until...
I lost another one. I go to Penn State University, and at PSU a service called "AccountLink" is offered through (you guessed it) PNC Bank. The service allows card users to link their check card to their student ID card, which means that the person has two check cards. One would think that I'd learned my lesson and would be extra careful not to leave my card in the machine at ATM's, but I did it again. I went about the process of freezing ANOTHER card, and had to wait a full two weeks for another. Luckily, the linked student ID card functioned as a completely separate entity from the original bank card, and I could still use it in place of my original card.
In addition to those two moments of extreme stupidity, I have also managed to drop my check card in-between the plastic separating the odometer and speedometer and other such gauges from the rest of my car, so that it fell out of view and into the steering wheel well. Fortunately, I was bailed out again, as a nearby mechanic that was friendly with my parents happened to have a spare five minutes to get it out.
Finally, I managed to leave my Discover Platinum card (parents account, of course) at a sporting goods store. However, I'm convinced that that wasn't my fault, as the clerk forgot to hand it back to me after I signed the receipt. My only mistake was not remembering to ask for it and walking out like nothing happened. Thankfully, I realized the mistake, albeit the next day, and was able to retrieve my card from a "lost card bin" that I'm guessing the store maintains specifically for morons like myself.
That is all, hope these tales of plastic stupidity have made Zed and everyone else who responded with a bank card blunder feel a little bit better about themselves.

When I was went to IU, there were a few 7-11 scattered across town (I remember the closest one to me when I lived in the dorms was on 10th street near that one old-school barber shop where all the basketball players went).
As the years went on, it seems they were replaced more and more by AM/PM stores and other pseudo convenience stores.
But that was more than 10 years ago.
(BTW, as someone who handles 7-11 paperwork at work, there are very few 7-11 stores in much of the Mid-west. Now, Texas and Flordia, that's a different story.)
