ESPN.com is now reporting that August 16th is the most likely date of a players strike. Sept. 1 is also a possibility, but August 16th is the most likely.

I guess this strike just can't happen soon enough for the players.

Well, you know , the owners could, NEGOTIATE or something. Oh yeah, I forgot, they don't want to do that. Guess the owners don't want baseball to happen anymore than the players do.

Well I will admit that I don't understand all the issues, but I thought that the sides were so far apart that there really isn't nothing to talk about until one side moves or the other.

Aren't the players dead-set against revenue-sharing and salary caps? I can't see much point in negotiating unless that's on the table.

At least it's not going to be on my birthday this time. That was a terrible fucking day. Of course, this will be too if it happens, but maybe it needs to. The sports world is a fucked-up place.

I was waiting for them to announce a strike date of September 11th or 12th so everybody could really tell them to fuck off...

How incredibly stupid are the players and owners? Didn't the crowd reaction at the all-star game and the vitrolic booing Bud Selig got at Cooperstown on Sunday teach them anything? Of course not.

ESPN on Sunday aired behind the scenes footage of the All-Star game and the players really came off as clueless morons who really could not understand how angry fans will be if they strike. They also came off as overpaid primadonnas with their "Oh the game is a time. Let's get the hell out of here" attitude.

Oh well, it was a nice season while it lasted. Bye Bye Baseball. At least Football is starting soon to fill the void.

Can Paul Taglibue please go over to MLB HQ with a couple of large men ,kick in the door and toss everyone out on the street and say "this is how you run a Professional sports league...?" And then could Gene Upshaw invite Donald Fehr on PTI (five good minutes with Donald Fehr) and beat the living shit out of him?

Do these people really believe that another strike wont decimate Major League Baseball? How can they not understand that the an entire generation of young fans will turn awy from Baseball and never go back?

Baffles my mind.

NFL = The best run league, no doubt. The CFL is making a nice comeback as well (compared to the mid-90's). EVERY league can learn from the NFL.

The solution for baseball...
Pay David Stern or Tagliabue about $20 million a year to step in and take over as commissioner. Whatever it takes.

To top it off, the NHL will almost certainly be having a work stoppage in 2004. Goodie.

The National Felons' League, National Batterers' Association, and now Money Looting Bitches. This is why I've turned to college sports almost entirely.

BTW, the NFL may be doing well from a business standpoint, but the quality of football definitely has gone down. But that's the topic for another category.

As long as they don't strike before I get to Fanway on August 11th then I could care less.

I'm glad my pals and I were unable to go on our traditional trip to Montreal this year, since I am in no DAMN mood to be spending money on MLB this year.

It took me five years to watch another baseball game after the season ending world series cancelling strike. I do not think I will come back again with another strike. The allstar game was bad enough..the tie was one thing, but watching the bored expressions on the players faces as the "greats of the game" were being introduced just floored me. It was clear that they were all thinking "come on, get this over with". They just do not care. Very sad, these primadonnas don't have a clue how good they have it, and how soon they will be forgotten when they finish ruining the game.

I think for $15 you can get a parking spot about 20 miles away from Fenway. In hindsight, the McCourt's not getting the team was one of the greatest days in Red Sox history. Dodger Stadium at this point I believe the 3rd oldest stadium in baseball....
