You wanted the best, you got... Out of Context Quote of the Week. "If I was doing the Mann Act with two chicks, there'd be multiple violations." (JustinShapiro) Stimulating my trip out to Vegas for a friend's wedding in October. As for the money I plan on losing out there... well, that's another story.

Anyone else seeing LOTS of complaints about this in other places? What I'm seeing can basically be divided into three basic categories:
1- People who just know what was in the papers, and that's only small part of all this. These people don't know why they're not getting the full $600 (if your tax liability was less than $600, then you're only going to get back what you paid in 2007). They also don't know why they haven't gotten their direct deposit yet (Not knowing that the deposits were broken up into groups by Social Security number) Incidentally, if you are among this group, and you want to know where your payment is, well, just ask the IRS (irs.gov)
2- College kids getting burned by their parents still claiming them as dependents
3- Folks who used TurboTax, and had the filing fees taken out of their refund. This is taking a LOT of people by surprise. It turns out that even if you chose direct deposit, if you paid your TurboTax fees with your refund, you have to wait for a paper check in that case. I'm not sure why, but it's catching a lot of people who thought they were getting money this week or next, who now have to wait until June.
As for me, the IRS website tells me that I'm getting around $460 on Monday, so I should probably start thinking about how to spend it. Suggestions are welcome, though "send it to me" will be summarily ignored.

Or do I have to go through their middle-man?

I'm one of 'em. When you choose to have your fees taken out of the loan...your money has to make a "pit stop" in an account setup by SBBT,. The remainder is then sent to your account. Since the IRS didn't send the money directly to your account they are apparently unable to direct deposit the stimulus check. (Even though all the bank info appears on all documents that were transmitted to the IRS).
Oh well...
