Steven Tyler is livin' on the edge.

This weekend the Aerosmith front man fueled rumors that he is joining the new "American Idol" judging panel, People.com reports.

'[I'm] probably going to be judge on "American Idol," ' he said following one of his concerts in Las Vegas on Saturday. "I'm doing it. What do you think? I'm doing it."

The 62-year-old rocker's name came up last week after Ellen DeGeneres announced she was leaving the show and reports surfaced that Kara DioGuardi had been fired.

This probably isn't enough to get me to start watching the show again. I just don't like it because THEY JUST GOT THE BAND BACK TOGETHER. Crap.

Why fire Kara to hire J-Lo? I just don't understand that logic. And, Steven Tyler? Really? This pretty much ends both Aerosmith's run and American Idol.

From what I gather, Tyler's replacing Cowell, and J-Lo's replacing Ellen DeGeneres. (Presumably, her ass fills Kara's seat.)

Oddly enough, if you somehow fused Simon, Ellen, and Kara, you would get Steven Tyler.

I read at least one article today that said Ellen had been complaining about Simon all season long. Something about the producers not being able to keep him under control, whatever that means.

Supposedly Cowell just arriving whenever he felt like it without giving a crap about anybody else's schedules was a big part of it. I can understand her frustration - she's not simply an Idol judge, and if Cowell wanted someone who could sit around waiting for him to show up he should've gone with someone who could devote their entire working life to the show.

An ex of mine read an article somewhere (Perez or Yahoo most likely) to me where after her first episode or two, she HATED how she looked in HD. I don't know if that had any impact on her not coming back.

I just thought that viewers and the AI producers both realized that Ellen hardly added anything to the show and she was given the kinder and easier way out by quitting rather than having to be fired.

Sure, Paula added hardly anything to the show either. But she was a train wreck that made her fun to watch each week.

Btw, weren't the ratings for last season the lowest in the shows history? I may be wrong about that, but I could see the shake-up with the judge replacements if that's true.

Season 1 has the lowest ratings, but looking at what little data I could find, it's been on a slow decline since Season 6 which looks like their biggest numbers in raw viewership numbers.

Season 1 -- Season 9: (viewers in millions)
Premiere: 9.9 -- 29.8
Finale: 22.77 -- 24.22

Honestly, the Idol model is pretty outdated. X Factor is just plain better entertainment.

Yeah, but we don't have X Factor.

(Also, we don't WANT X Factor.)

EDIT: Oh, shit - X Factor US premieres on FOX September 2011

I know you hate X-Factor but you don't have to look at me like that.

She doesn't look real good in SD either.
