Truly a sad day if Steven Tyler walks away. Joe Perry remarked ealier this year that he hadn't spoken to Tyler in some time and that is what led partly to Perry's new solo material. He had song ideas that were intended to be Aerosmith songs but Tyler lately had shown little interest in being part of the band.
The band had played some shows lately, including a make-up show in Hawaii, so I had hoped that getting together to perform would mend some fences. I don't see the band going on with another singer at this stage and performing as 'Aerosmith' - it would be like the Stones without Jagger. Thirty plus years together should not go out like this.
After being together for almost 40 years, it's probably time. At least until the money calls again. They were America's answer to the Stones in the 1970s and made some truly great rock but have evolved into an oldies act this decade.
Tyler recently had an interview where he made some very douchey "I want to extend the Steven Tyler brand"-type of comments, so it looks like he wants to go out on his own. I can't imagine how he thinks he can be relevant in 2009 as a solo artist, but hey, to each his own.
Kirk, crackers are a family food. Happy families. Maybe single people eat crackers, we don't know. Frankly, we don't want to know. It's a market we can do without.
