This was the last thing I expected to see today. Kudos to Austin for turning himself in, but it sure took him long enough. It feels like it happened so long ago.

Hehe. I just wanted to make the most inaccurate cliche statement I could make.
But seriously, I hope he gets his shit together, goes to TNA, and helps create some competition. Not because I feel competition will 'save the WWE' but because people deserve an alternative. Other than that, I can't comment as I've never been married to Debra and don't know what it would be like to beat her.

There is no freakin way Vince will let Austin out of his contract. He may be an asshole and even if he isn't, he sure as hell isn't stupid. If he lets Austin out to go to TNA, that creates instant buzz and will give TNA their highest buyrate ever.
I don't even think Vince will let Austin buy out his contract. Vince will always hold a grudge against Austin for leaving him high and dry and Vince will never give him what he wants.

I also read that brief Yahoo story. Is Austin really 36 years old compared to Debra's 42?! I know that's probably a dumb question I should have known a long time ago, but is that really true? If it is...wow.

I recall this after I was shocked to find that Debra is years younger than Ivory. Or was that Terri?
Oh well. I guess the only thing I know for certain is that Ivory has aged graciously.

The mainstream media has already made up its' mind that pro wrestlers and their fans are imbeciles. Putting wrestling in a *positive* light would only confuse their microscopic little minds. *Negative* stories, however, only go to prove that pro wrestling is for imbeciles, so they print every negative story they can find.
As far as the story itself - when exactly was the warrant for Austin issued?

I was wondering this myself. Doesn't 2 - 2 1/2 months sound a little long for something like this?
In any case...this is just sad. Sad for Debra...nothing, NOTHING, ever excuses abuse. And as for Steve...it's sad to see someone's life go downhill this fast and dramatically.
I never was, and never will be a SCSA fan, but this is just bad timing for the wrestling industry as a whole.

Deb and Steve McMichael are about the same age - they were married to each other back when Steve was still playing with the Bears. Steve was a rook in about 83, so my math (if he was 22ish then) puts her at about 42. I know Austin's about late 30s - so I think the story's accurate.
Debbie was in the Mrs America pageant during that time period - maybe about 88 or so.

That's not entirely true. During the 2000 boom there were tons of media stories on wrestling. Hell, the WWF had a front page story in Newsweek magazine. But that's media in general--they tend to over-hype success and/or failure. I don't think its very reasonable to expect or want the media to ignore the arrest of one of the two or three most recognizable faces in the industry.

I wouldn't think that this is a very common scenerio for the average domestic abuse case. Either you charge them or you don't. You don't wait two months. Someone wants to make a name for themselves because of this.

To say that someone is making a name for themselves implies that the alleged didn't do anything and is being unfairly treated for no reason other than having a *known* name. I don't think that's the case here from what has been reported so far.
