Well, having just gotten home from watching the Pats-Bears on the dish at my friend's house, I might disagree.
It was certainly a wild day all around.

But does anyone else notice that, since Maddox and the Steelers started playing well, hardly anyone has mentioned that he was the XFL MVP? Initially, every "analyst" who fancied himself in the know would mention Maddox's XFL MVP (typically with a sneer). Now that Maddox looks like the next Terry Bradshaw, nobody mentions it.

All throughout the game yesterday, the HORRIBLE (tm Bill Walton)Bill Maas kept mentioning the Arena League and not the XFL.

Simple, Stephanie. The Arena League is still around. The XFL is not. Hence, the XFL no longer means anything (or at least, that's what they want us to think they think).

I don't think it's anything against the XFL in particular as much as an unwillingness to admit that defunct leagues matter.
Case in point, when Reggie White was tearing up the record books, there weren't a lot of analysts making huge mentions that he started in the USFL. (God...I'm getting old.)
Edit: Dammit! Spelling errors...I gotta get some sleep.

| #9 Posted on 12.11.02 1454.25 | Perhaps they mention the Arena League instead of the XFL because the NFL has ownership connections to the league. That, and the Arena League never told the NFL to shove stuff up their ass.
I want you to know, I agree with everything I've just said. |
