I forgot to link.

Semi-empty gestures about cleaning up character problems notwithstanding, I'd much rather have one season of Holmes' production + the headache + him walking for nothing at the end of the year than a 5th. If he ends up with a four-game suspension for drug policy violation that's another thing, but my god, Deion Branch got a 1st.

A 5th round pick....are you f*cking kidding me ???

There's no way a 5th round pick is the best you can get for Santonio. The Titans managed to get a 4th round pick for Pacman Jones and it wasn't even clear if he'd ever be reinstated at that point. Was Al Davis cellphone turned off ? A four game suspension does not devalue one of the top 10 or 12 wide receivers in the game to a 5th round pick.

This trade doesn't reclaim the Steelers image. It just makes them look like morons, making a bonehead, lopsided trade. Why not at least wait until draft day when teams get desperate?

Our local all-sports talk station "93.7FM The Fan" just said that Leon Washington may be included along with the 5th round pick. If that's true, I'd feel much better about it.

I'm stunned by this. Especially with Holmes being in the news a lot less than Big Ben. I like Bill Simmons' take on this.

Peter King confirmed that Washington is NOT part of the deal.

It's amazing to look at all the teams in the NFL that needed receivers that could have sent Pittsburgh a fourth round pick (and didn't). Chicago, I'm looking and laughing at you.

Unless, its a trade to get a draft pick to trade up for another receiver like Golden Tate, its terrible. I understand the Steelers not wanting to pay him or do some house cleaning, but they could have held out for at least two drafts. Of course, all this really does is put the screws to the AFC East ie the Patriots which I am all for. I also don't think Ben is as safe as people think.

Schefter says he'll start of the season under a four game suspension.

Still feels like the Steelers could've done better. They just wanted him out of the door ASAP.

Peter King tweet:

"Santonio Holmes, who just turned 26, for the 151st pick in the draft. I'll tell you what this is: A shot across the bow to Big Ben."

From Jason La Canfora of the NFL Network:

"Some league executives who were reached Sunday night said that despite their concerns with Holmes' behavior, it was surprising the Steelers did not get at least a third-round pick in return, with teams like Washington, Miami, Tampa Bay and Carolina among those in need of a wide receiver."

I'm still shocked the Steelers let go of Antwaan Randle El.

It's great to know that we are not cutting off our nose to spite our face. We're just trading it for a 5th round pick.

He was a cool dude but he wasn't that good. However, I've got good news for you. He is now the #3 receiver once again.

Just when he could have made McNabb look good.

His name looks great on a Steelers jersey. Glad I get to see that again (unless he's cut in preseason).

I didn't think it would be possible for someone to actually look WORSE after an announcement of charges not being filed, but Ben sure did......Wow. I was kinda surprised how Bright lit into Ben. He seemed that he wanted everyone to know that Ben was indeed guilty of what he was accused of but they just didn't have enough evidence to prove it.

My only problem with the press conference was how Bright seemed to fluff over the question about the girl drinking underage. Shouldn't somebody had been at least fined ? The girl, Ben, the bar.....somebody ??? Last time I checked, underage drinking was illegal.

After listening to what DA Bright had to say, no way Goodell lets Roethlisberger off without a suspension.

Bright should have his own TV show.

Since he said he knew from almost the beginning that there wasn't going to be evidence to prosecute, I interpreted it as saying there wasn't evidence that some kind of sexual assault took place, but that Ben was definitely guilty of being a skeevy guy who had "sexual contact" with a really drunk girl.

a really drunk 20 year old too.

I also took it as a chance for him to castigate the off-duty cops that were with Ben.

The tapes being erased is going to be the giant question mark to the entire thing even though the bar claims, you couldn't see much of the restroom area. Listening to Mike & Mike, you would think any suspension of Ben would be ridiculous. I disagree since this is third offense, one is driving the bike without a license which he did get fine for, then the civil suit in Vegas as well as the current Georgia debacle. Not to mention the "stories" coming out of Pittsburgh regarding his behavior in the city. I say at least 2 to 4 games for Ben.

Even with the four game suspension, the Jet should be ok til Holmes joins them. The Jets GM should be given a pat on the back for making a bunch of good moves in the last few years even the Bret move. I do think they are going to make more moves on draft day.

I can't find a single article talking about it, but it was just announced on Sportscenter that Josh McDaniels has been fired. Apparently the spying incident was the straw that broke the camel's back. EDIT: Well, I finally found a mention of it in print....
