Reports from fans who attended Raw are all saying that as soon as ads for "The Scorpion King" appeared on the Titantron, the crowd erupted into chants of "Rocky Sucks". That can't be a good thing.

So that poses this question. Is Rocky's big return in 2003 doomed to bomb?

"See Nash, you can wear any Halloween costume you want to, but you know and I know that you're only half the man that I am - and I have half the brain that you do."

Ah, I miss Sid. So much endless material.

If all things remain equal, yes. Rocky's just going to have to choose which means more to him - his WWE career or his Hollywood career. The fans are obviously sick of the way he keeps switching back and forth between the two, apparently unable to decide on either one. He's got to understand that he can't have it both ways - he can't disregard the wrestling fans for months at a throw, then return and expect adulation. Perhaps the way that the wrestling fans have turned on him will help him make up his mind.

Not if he comes back as a heel.

Pretty Boy "Hollywood" Dwayne Johnson who thinks he's better than everybody else, especially the other wrestlers, because he makes million dollar movies would be over like gangbusters.

But I don't know that Rock would want to do a heel "character" (he apparently has no qualms wrestling as a heel because of crowd response, see his matches with Brock and Hogan) but he can't really stay a heel and also try to promote his movie that he wants everyone to go see.

What they (the WWE) need to do is try to get Rock to take a villain role in a movie again, as that'd fit more with a heel persona.

But I think that a heel Rock who comes back name-dropping his celebrity friends and shunning the lockerroom and the fans for being "Beneath a star of his stature" would be great (but all things considered, I guess it'd probably be a shoot, eh?)

Since everyone else is doing it (ok, not EVERYONE, but...)

Badgers (5-2) - Indiana? INDIANA?!?! *sigh*
Twins (OUT) - Oh well, if we're still around next year...

I think Rock is the greatest wrestler on earth for not completely giving up the company that made him a big star. Don't tell me he couldn't afford to fully quit wrestling, and becoming a full-time-actor. Still he sneaks in from time to time. Sure, storyline-wise it's hard, and not fair to the other wrestlers, but hell, it's Rocky, I would buy every PPV just for him, and I can't be alone with that opinion. Heel, face, whatever, just bring him to wrestle a match and I am happy! It's better to wrestle from time to time than not at all..

This event was in Canada. In the same arena as the night after X-8. Rock got booed heavily then too. It may just be a Canadian thing.

Another thing to remember is that Rock is on Smackdown. So when he comes back, WWE will be able to use the magic of post production to turn whatever reaction Rock gets into whatever reaction they want him to get. That wouldn't cover ppv's but a lot less people are ordering ppv's these days.

Whatever happens, I don't think his return will bomb. The fans will react strongly to his character, face or heel. Plus, he is always solid in the ring, so Smackdown! will become that much better.

Forget Rock. Maurice Clarett is my hero.

Rock hasn't suddenly become un-over. Canadians are just different, they were all ready booing the Rock BEFORE he left. Outside of his last match with Brock, I don't remember getting anything but face pops anywhere else.

As far as the Rock and career choices, he needs to do what's best for the Rock. He doesn't owe me anything. I like the Rock well enough that I'm perfectly willing to accept just a little Rock if that's the only way he is going to stay with wrestling.

From the desk of Swordsman Yen
If The Rock does come back as a heel, they should have him form a stable with his relatives Rikishi, Jamal, and Rosie as his henchmen. It would take the family unity element of the Hart Foundation stable, the gang beatdown mentality of the nWo, and the primadonna personality of Hollywood Hogan, now played by The Rock. But then again, wrestling fans might like it so much, the Fed would have to turn Rock face again in two months. There is still a place for The Rock in wrestling, and I believe a lot of the negative reaction is more of fans trying look cutting edge and cool than with any career decisions the Rock has made.

Cowboys 3-3-0. Wish Quincy could play the first 56 minutes that way as well.

Canadian fans aren't different we're just ahead of the curve... which I suppose makes us different. Nevermind.

People were booing the Rock because he's getting stale as the hero, and they remember just how cool he was as the Corporate champ. ("This ain't sing along with the champ!")
He could use the booing to his advantage too, but then I guess that's been done before.

When RAW was in Ottawa last, I personally lead a 'Rocky sucks' chant just to see if we could get it to be heard on TV (and it did!). I think it's a Canadian thing mostly.

Too subtle. If they'd done it old west style I'd agree with you.
