The ORIGINAL* Star Wars trilogy comes out on DVD finally tomorrow. Are you getting it? I sure as heck am, because I'm a huge Star Wars geek.
*-Special Editions released in 1997, but altered since then by Lucas & Co. For instance, Hayden Christensen plays Anakin's ghost at the end of Jedi. Stuff like that. And Greedo & Han shoot at the same time.

According to the story I read in Entertainment Weekly, Han shooting Greedo first made him a MURDERER, so that was something Lucas wanted to change. The author then said that the first reissue had Han waiting what seemed like forever to shoot back, and that time lag has been tightened up a bit.
“To get ass, you’ve got to bring ass." -- Roy Jones Jr.
"Your input has been noted. I hope you don't take it personally if I disregard it." -- Guru Zim
Han shoots first, dammit -- it establishes him as the pirate that he is. The backstory, if "Tales from the Mos Eisley Cantina" is considered canon, is that Greedo was set up to take the fall by some other bounty hunters.
ON TOPIC - nah, I don't watch enough tv to buy these (I've learned I don't watch enough tv simply by reading that TiVO thread :D)

My VHS versions of the original trilogy still hold up well, although it's in fullscreen and before the remastering.
I never minded the new effects, but Greedo shooting first bugged me, as well as Luke screaming when he drops to get away from Vader during Empire Strikes Back. I forget if there was a moment like this in Return of the Jedi.
Nope, I won't be buying. The changes to the original trilogy just piss me off. I have my VHS copies, and if I want the originals on DVD I'll go give my money to some *very unethical person* and get my version that way.

Lucas is a perfectionist who keeps tweaking the series as he gets new and (to him) better ideas. Plus, he's fixing some of the stuff that conflicts with the prequels. When you write by the seat of your pants, like he seems to be doing a lot of the time, crazy stuff happens.
I also feel like the man hasn't had a lot of good ideas lately, outside of the Star Wars world, so he might as well milk the franchise dry. The Skywalker Ranch needs some new stuff.
HAIL SNITSKEY. Now that we've got that out of the way, the post may begin...
I bought it, but only because I got an amazing deal on it and will be reselling it on ebay to pull in a profit. I'm not a Star Wars fan.
I'll get it, although I'll kick myself in three years when he decides to release all six films together in some ridiculous "Ultimate Force Collection". To celebrate 30 years of Star Wars, it wouldn't surprise me to have the original trilogy in that set. Only $119.99 with mail-in rebate from Taco Bell!
I was going to buy it, I didn't mind the changes now that Greedo shots first is now ereased I kinda liked the Special Edition. I asked one of the Walmart guys if it was going to be available at midnight along with Battlegrounds which after looking at the strategy guide is going to be sweet. I get there at 11:59 and after walking around for a few minutes, I noticed they were completely out. I saw no line at the display and after going back out I noticed only three people in the store with the DVDs. I believe they released it early, so I got the short end of the stick. I am going to try to go back today to see if they put out more, but I doubt it.

Fuck Wal*Mart. Unless you're in a town without any other real stores, you should be able to find it someplace that respects the street date for the same price. (Seems like everyone - Best Buy, Circuit City, Target, Wal-Mart, Toys R Us - is selling it for $34.99)
Got it today at Fry's for $36.99. (Didn't know about Toys R Us, but they tend to sell out fast anyway.) The line stretched all the way to just shy of the back of the store.
I've spent about an hour with the discs so far. The restoration was very well done. Only the nitpickiest of nitpickers will find flaws. All in all the films look beautiful.
The "new changes" work in context. I was as afraid as anyone about them, but they come across just fine. Haven't heard Boba Fett's new voice yet, though.
I went to Walmart yesterday, got for $39.99 and Battlegrounds for $49.99. I watched A New Hope, the transfer is amazing, they even fixed the lightsabers in the Obi/Vader fight. They touched up Jabba and it does appear Han and Greedo shot at the same time, but I almost think that Han does shot first and Greedo's gun just goes off in the air or at least thats how I'm going to play it off. I'm going to watch Empire now and Jedi tomorrow.
On a sidenot, I highly recommend Battlegrounds, good first person and the battles are amazing. I wish it could be more interactive in the battles, some battles you win by default, kinda hard not to when Vader is on your team, but the beginning levels as a Tattioone are easier. I have been playing historical mission and I haven't been able to change from a stormtrooper to rebel, but I got a feeling, you have to beat the game first, then play as a rebel or it will change in the middle. I will say the graphics are sweet and I'm loving blowing away wookies and rebel scum.
At a mall here yesterday, there were people dressed up as stormtroopers, Boba and Juggo Fett, and some random jedi. They were promoting the release. They did some funny stuff, like cartwheels, and going to different stores and posing with cheesy merchandise and mannequins.
Wal*Mart was sold out of the widescreen, so I had to Amazon it. It was $41.99.
There were rows and rows of Pan and Scan at Wal*Mart though. I expect to see these bundled with give-away items in a few months -- no one was buying it. I watched three people sort through the entire P&S section looking for a widescreen copy.
Willful ignorance of science is not commendable. Refusing to learn the difference between a credible source and a shill is criminally stupid.
