Got Knights of the old Repulic Wednesday night. I have never gotten into RPG's. But it was getting really nice reviews all around so I picked it up, thinking at worst my brothers would play the crap out of it. They aren't playing it though, because I can't stop. It is awesome. The story is excellent, but the battle system is the best part. My party includes three Jedi, eight lightsabres, and a Wookie with dual swords.

Every year the game i look forward to most is NCAA Football. I was 9-0 in the first season of my dynasty with the Buckeyes when i picked Star Wars up. I have only played one game since. A huge #1 vs #5 rivalry game with Michigan is just sitting there waiting to be played, but i keep going back to Star Wars. It's that much fun.

Anyway, anyone else got it? Have impressions? Anything?

I really can't wait to play Halo 2.

So it looks like I'm going to be playing the X-Box for the first time since I got sick of Halo, huh?

This game does indeed rock. I rented it yesterday and played for 7 or so hours at my friend's house. This game, the harddrive, and Halo 2 are going to make my next console an X-Box.

I guess I'll never own Devil May Cry, Virtua Fighter 4, Frequency or Amplitude. That's okay, I never liked the Playstation anyway.

I have a question: I played my scoundrel character mostly neutral/light, and then went back and started a new Soldier character that was going to be all Dark Side. It feels really weird to be going around killing these helpless people while Carth (who's very in the light) just stands around and watches. Does your party change to fit your evil nature after the first planet, or are you just stuck with the nagging goody-two-shoes?

Usually when I go on a killing spree, I leave Carth in the hideout. I don't like him trying to give me moral lessons all the time anyway.
Oh yeah, this game rocks.

Pardon me, I think I just stepped in a major plothole in George Lucas's whole f'n universe.

So this game is supposed to take place thousands of years before Episode I, right? So if so...how come the lightsabers and red/green lasers look, sound and function EXACTLY the same as they would thousands of years later, when Luke, Leia and Han were fighting Darth and the Death Star?

That'd be like our technological progression stopping at the 386, and not coming out with the 486 or Pentium for 75 years or so. Nobody made new/different weapons for a whole millenia?

Or am I just screwy?

I think it has do with the fact that when the lightsabers are used in Luke/Han era of the Star Wars universe that they are a throwback to the olden days. It's not like lightsabes were meant to be high tech weapons at that time. Even Obi-Wan called them "A more dignified weapon from a more civilized time," or something to that effect. I used to know the exact quote, but it escapes me now. the Jedis were old fashioned knights by the time of a New Hope. They were seen as kinda screwy- like if someone nowadays tried fighting with a sword. Hence once of the Imperial generals calling Vader a "foolish old wizard devoted to that ancient religion." And even in the time of the prequel trilogy I think people started doubting them and their usefullness.

As for the lasers, ya got me there. I guess a laser is a laser, and if it can kill someone what's the point of changing it, right?

Eradicator pretty well summed up the lightsaber thing. It is, in effect, a religious weapon that is supposedly some kind of rite of passage. Messing with it too much might be taboo or something.

Laser-wise, well... they likely have changed, but not in ways you can really see. Take guns, for example. Most of the changes in that arena (recently) have been smaller, less obvious. Rifling, teflon coating the bullets, and whatnot. The bullet itself hasn't changed a huge amount, it's still basically a little piece of metal that gets hurled at some poor schmoe.

Ship-wise, though, they'd better not be flying around in X-Wings and Tie Fighters. No navy worth a damn would be using a thousand year old design. (:

This game (KOTOR as the kids call it) is another in a list of games that 'get ya'. You get hooked easy, you enjoy it completely and it's a fantastic timesuck.

I'd describe it as a cross between Neverwinter Nights and Morrowind with a Star Wars skin. Your actions have consequences. If you decide to save the damsel in distress your game progresses differently than if you shoot her in the head and collect her bounty.

I am playing two character. One is pure good, a brawler and I go through the storyline first with her. Then, when I get to a logical break point, I take Hale Vo'Lions (an anagram for Evil Han Solo) and do everything exactly opposite. Evil to the core, baby. Poor alien being pelted with rocks by rich kids - Mica would've scolded the kids, I try and kill the alien.

The storylines diverge and become quite different. Now that both characters are Jedi we'll see who sticks by whose side. I would recommend that if you do not have an XBOX and if you have the means, this is a legitimate reason to spend $250 on a game. But that's me.
