Yup... so basically, the job of a mid-ranking officer who doesn't have the responsibility of running the entire ship. So important to the command, in fact, that other officers openly mock his religion to his face. So important to the command that they send him out to a dogfight in which he could have easily been killed (without the force and all).

You see what happened to the guy that mocked his religion, he got chocked out. He was running the Star Destroyer. He went out there to fix someone's fuck up and he lived. How is living a bad thing? He was probably getting claustrophobia being stuck in the Death Star while a huge space battle, which he is over qualified for, is going outside. Vader is a peacock, you have to let him fly.

How is Vader incompetent when he froze Han, cut off Luke's hand and took over an entire floating city. As for losing the others, its the lower management fault for not DE-activating the power drive on the Falcon. He was also trying to sway Luke to help kill the Emperor, he had zero intention of killing Luke. He had a major victory at Hoth which sent the Rebels in disarray to the point they scattered across the galaxy for three years.

I'm hoping they can do something unique with the whole thing. Everyone seems to assume they will be about one of two things:

1. Luke turns to the Dark Side - This would be the same storyline as the prequels, no desire to see it.

2. Han and Leia's kid turns to the Dark Side. Again, very similar to what we've seen. Luke will be trying to pull a family member away from the Dark Side.

Jeez, you're right!! The guy who needs to be encased in a huge metal suit in order live... JUST NEEDED SOME FRESH AIR!!

In fact, they really could have flushed out Anakin in the prequels if they would have made him asthmatic and lactose intolerant.

I'm okay with the original cast coming back for the sequel. It makes perfect sense. However, I don't think the movie will be a flood of footage with Luke, Leia, and Han.

I could easily see some newer characters on Yavin 4, just lost in the woods, some monster comes along, they think they'll be eaten, then the cloaked figure steps out, waves his hands, and makes the scary thing go away, just like Obi-Wan in New Hope, only to reveal that it's Luke. Then Luke is just as focal in the new trilogy as Mace Windu. A face you can always flash to to excite the audience, who is going to almost always act as a deus ex machina when it comes to dealing with bad guys, but ultimately doesn't take on a major role of telling the story.

Lots of scenes where they show Han still has it. Maybe he'll have settled and become the sheriff and have to fight off a group of offworld pirates trying to steal all the gold bacta.

And Leia uses the force at some point. She's Anikin's kid too.

I'm not much of a Star Wars fan, but I'd love to see some more animated stuff along the lines of the Clone Wars animated series. That is pretty much the only thing in the Star Wars universe for which I've had an overall positive opinion. How about something set way, way back in time with a lot more of the Force mysticism in it? I'm thinking something like Avatar: The Last Airbender with Jedis and Siths. Make it happen, Disney XD!

Wishful thinking. He denied it several times on Twitter tonight. He's doing a conflicting sci fi film called 1952 next.

It is amazing how many people are running not walking away from this project. You would think how bad the prequels were received by the fanbase that any director would be like see this as a lay up. Also, Disney says they want 2 to 3 Lucasfilms a year.

Yes but people know they'll be held up to a standard that nobody can ever live up to.
They are not allowed to make 'a good Star Wars movie'
They are expected to wash away the taste of the prequels, do justice to the original trilogy and come up with a good and compelling story for these new ones. It can never end well.

Oh please, that's such loser talk. I'm not saying that isn't a prevalent mentality among directors approached to direct Episode VII but that is still such loser thinking.

To be the first person in 30+ years and the first director ever not hand picked and directly overseen by George Lucas to direct a Star Wars movie is a golden opportunity. I'd argue it is one of the greatest opportunities for a Hollywood director ever. If I were a film director, I would blow up fifty Alderans for an opportunity like that, even if I were destined to fail spectacularly. I'd try very damnedest to make the greatest Star Wars movie I could.

Totally. And I think most fans would be satisfied as long as the new movies are superior to the prequels (which would not be that hard).

Yeah, like 30+ years ago. How about this idea, just to float out there: No one over 65 write or direct a Star Wars movie? Let talented folks who weren't in college when Nixon was President try their hands at moving the Star Wars franchise forward.

Well, what do I know?

Lawrence Kasdan and Simon Kinberg lock deals to write Star Wars Episodes VIII and IX. (hollywoodreporter.com)

Simon Kinberg and Michael Arndt qualify under my criteria though, so best of all worlds.

Other Star Wars news:

Attack of the Clones 3D set for 9/20/13 and Revenge of the Sith 3D set for 10/4/13. (boxofficemojo.com)

The question is will Lucasfilm/Disney get Episodes IV, V, and VI converted to 3D in theaters before Episode VI arrives?

Well, now, it's not so cut and dry as Kasdan on Episode VIII and Kinberg on Episode IX.

Hollywood Reporter (hollywoodreporter.com) now says Kasdan and Kinberg are possibly instead working on spin offs to expand the Star Wars cinematic universe.
