Yeah, after all my bitching and complaining, I went to see this. I paid money to see this fucking movie in 3D because I'm a fucking idiot.
I kinda liked it.
Jar Jar wasn't nearly as annoying this time around, due to my having already gone through the hate process. I'm in no fucking way saying I like the character, but I accept that he is needed for the story and he does the part well.
Jake Lloyd is as bad as the first time, but I accept it because he was just a little kid. Sure Lucas could have found a better child actor for the role of young Anakin... perhaps even digitally replaced him with a shrub or something, buy again, my hatred of the boy has settled down and I accept Lucas' choice of having the main character of the entire Star Wars series be a complete bore.
I feel I should admit to being really, REALLY drunk for this. I had a few beers and two Irish Car Bombs before the movie and sneaked in some cans of Guinness with me in to the theater. Liquid courage, if you know what I mean.
The 3D effects were absolutely fucking incredible. The pod race scene is a billion times better than before and well worth the price of admission alone. The space battle scenes also completely jump out at you and are fantastic. The Darth Maul saber duel felt like getting a blow job without being allowed to finish. I expect I will get my 'Happy Ending' when Empire finally comes out cause I still feel that the first Luke/Vader duel there is the best one.
Overall, the 3D effects in certainly worth paying to see this crapfest again. I think I might even raise my rating of this film from 'Total Shit' to 'Worth seeing once'.
Bravo George Lucas... you made me fucking pay to see this AGAIN and I don't feel troll'd by it.

Bwahahahaha! Love it.
I would pay money to go see a "highlights" 3D version of the film. Like thirty minutes of the pod race, Darth Maul battle, some Natalie Portman- just the good parts.

The issue is with fanboys who complain how much they hate the prequels then pay to see it again. People who complain and complain and then when Lucas puts what you purport to "hate" right back in your face, you hand him $15 bucks and come a'runnin' lose their right to complain.
Ever stop to think you're the midi-chloreans, little microscopic amoebas whose $$$ power The Force?
I'm glad to hear the 3D is good, though. I will see Attack of the Clones 3D if Phantom Menace 3D makes enough money to justify its release, as per Lucasfilm's claims.

Rumors are circulating that the pre-sales alone will make it the number one movie of the week. I also think we will get all of them regardless. Even if they make a small profit, its a profit. I will not go see Episode I due to no 2D versions around. Yet, I spent a lot to get Qui-Gonn, Padme and Sidous in the old classic package from back in the day. I even got Maul as a gift. They should have been like this in the first place and I understand I am admitting buying toys when I am over thirty, but God help me I love them. That is also where the rub lies is the fact that the merchandising will always make money for Lucas especially when the movies come out.
I don't hate the prequels, so I have no problem giving Lucas my money. It just find it all hypocritical of fanboys who slam them and then go see them. I can almost guarantee that due to them seeing it again, you will see the prequel hate slow for a month or so when this is going on. It will now be the trendy thing to go see them drunk like Cerebus who isn't the only one I heard doing this or high. Then magically, we will get articles like the one on yahoo saying the Prequels are better. Its all about limiting how much of a hypocrite the fanboys are going to be during all of this.

Dude, of course there are no 2D showings. It's only being rereleased in theaters because it's in 3D. That's the point of the rerelease.

Dude, of course there are 2D showings. I could go see it today if I wanted to. Not everyone likes (or can watch) 3D, and with the same prints lying around from 13 years ago, not selling those to interested theaters is leaving money on the table.
Dudes, I am genuinely shocked there are 2D showings. The listings for the major theater chains in my area offer no 2D option. I thought the whole point was for Lucasfilm to force (pun intended) the fandom into seeing the prequels in 3D if they want the original trilogy in 3D.
I've never been to a 3D movie. How do the glasses work now? Wouldn't just taking them off mean watching it in 2D? I'm sure you'd like to avoid paying 3D prices, but ...

Digital projectors refresh the screen 60-120 times a second. Half of those frames get filtered out by the left lens of your glasses, half the right. The image is converted in such a way that the further away it is supposed to be from the camera the further apart the left and right frames are, so the closer something is, the easier it is to make out without the glasses.*
Having said all that, most current projectors are ill-equipped to deal with high speed 3D action, so there is increased flickering when any kind of fast motion is happening onscreen. I was curious as to how well they would be able to pull off the pod-race with these limitations, and was sadly unsurprised when I looked over-top of my glasses to realize the majority of it had not actually been converted to 3D.
Jar-Jar continues to be the worst part of the entire Star Wars universe, but I did notice this time around that even the characters appeared to not want to have anything to do with him. I don;t know, maybe I'm just projecting, but a lot of the awkward pauses after Jar-Jar did something seemed intentional.

Very blurry 2D. You really wouldn't be able to enjoy a movie that way.
If you get to see a Nintendo 3DS system up close, turn the 3D all the way up and then look at the 3D screen from one side instead of head-on. That will give you some idea.
So I was over on BoxOfficeMojo and I just came to realization that I, ultimately, am partially responsible for allowing Phantom Menace become the first Star Wars film to earn over $1 Billion dollars.

This is not settling well for me.
Consider Transformers 3 is #4 and Stranger Tides as well as Alice is in front of it, I don't have too much of a problem. I do have to question the planet's taste in films though.
