Quite frankly, I find this entire campaign very funny.

First, words from the Chairman, who is appearing on RAW tonight to make the following announcement:

http://www.wwe.com/inside/standupforwwe/fansstandup

Ten ways to Stand Up for WWE

http://www.wwe.com/inside/standupforwwe/tenways

* Tune in tonight to Monday Night Raw for a special announcement from Vince McMahon.
* Forward the “Stand Up for WWE” videos to your friends and family.
* Upload video testimonials to YouTube and Facebook voicing your support for WWE.
* E-mail your friends and family stating why you are a WWE fan.
* Write a letter to the editor of your newspaper.
* Share your favorite WWE stories on Twitter and Facebook.
* Make “I’m Standing Up for WWE” your Facebook status.
* Read a story that you feel is unfair to WWE? E-mail the reporter.
* Create signs or T-shirts for WWE live events that state “I Stand Up for WWE."
* Tell those in the military they can attend a WWE live event for free when showing their active military ID.

Oh my. This is all about that damned Linda McMahon election. They really want their fans to write letters to newspapers? I'd love to read some of those. I especially like their suggestion to email friends and family to state why you're a WWE fan. Some of the "testimonials" and so forth that will result from this ought to be pretty good.

Will you Stand Up For WWE? (May I Stand Down From WWE?)

I just got an email from the WWE with a link to a new WWE.com page, Stand Up for WWE (wwe.com). Vince has filmed a video package asking fans to support the WWE against allegations stemming from the Senate race. The page also has a checklist for fans to follow through for public support.

The first denouncement of accusations (wwe.com) heralds the WWE as "TV-PG since June 2008."

It's interesting timing. Seems like this should have been cranked up months ago to head off the inevitable claims. The election is just three weeks away.

You do something 23 years ago and nobody forgets...

(I actually don't think this is THAT bad, in the scope of wrestling, I've certainly seen much much worse.)

Does this fall under the Equal Time Rule, or since it is just Vince and not the candidate does this prevent that from being triggered?
Any doubt the campaign told Vince there is no way on the face of God's green earth that they will give him a live mic 2 weeks before the election?

Dear Local Newspaper,

When I try to think of the one reason I fell in love with WWE, I have to say it was the blood. No, wait, the boobs. No, definitely the blood. Blood AND boobs, really.

I also like it when ring announcers get choked with their ties.

Yours,
SchippeWreck

P.S. It's still real to me, DAMMIT!

Tonally, this feels like the tactics of a campaign for some sort of moral battle (i.e. standing up for gay rights) crossed with a campaign to fight a disease (i.e. Stand Up 2 Cancer)... Except it's a Corporation asking the fans of its product to defend it from Mudslinging Politicians. Because that's what stirs the passions of average Americans.

WWE carries a negative impression to the voters. Her campaign ran away from it early on, and then tried to soften it later on. They're desperate now - statistically models show Linda having a "0.5%" chance of winning. It's a bit about trying to do anything you can because you've got nothing to lose, but they'd still be doing something like this is if it was close. Every voter knows the WWE, all they can do is hope to change their mind on it.

Does this fall under the Equal Time Rule, or since it is just Vince and not the candidate does this prevent that from being triggered?

Equal time rule only applies to broadcast television.

Linda's never mentioned in Vince's speech and she's never been mentioned in the Make A Wish bits they've been airing. Should he be asked about this during an investor's conference, Vince will say this is about improving people's opinion of the WWE brand. Which it is, but it's not only about that.

Any doubt the campaign told Vince there is no way on the face of God's green earth that they will give him a live mic 2 weeks before the election?

He's on RAW tonight, probably to give a longer version of this same speech. The people running the campaign probably aren't as much running it as they were a week ago.

* not that 0% of people will vote for her, but if you mix all the stats together and run the election 100,000 times, she wins less than 1 % of the time.

OK, to be honest, I've watched maybe three episodes of RAW over the past six months; so, maybe a lot has changed recently. Because, to be honest, I'm wondering, how is the live crowd going to respond to a plea by the "evil" Mr. McMahon to do anything? Will they boo and jeer just out of habit? Will they be silent and confused? I guess I can tune in and see for myself in about forty-five minutes, but how does everyone here think the live crowd will respond?

I mean, they can say his daughter has turned tricks for every guy who has ever worked for him, that his granddaughter is going to be a whore, but, they are mocking Vince's YACHT! His YACHT! Middle America has to rally around this unprovoked attack on His YACHT!

I'd imagine the live crowd wouldn't act favourably since I can't see why fans in Calgary, Alberta, Canada would care about an election in Connecticut, Massachusetts, United States of America ;)

doubt you're correct there. Usually, when we discuss politics on this board (USA Politics - even Canadians don't care about Canadian politics), many of the posters are Canadian (we can tell from the Flags). I think people do care, because they are influence by the media they watch - and when I work in Canada, it's Fox or CNN on in Hotel breakfast places, not "top of the morning, Manitoba" or something like that.

We'll be back right after order has been restored here in the Omni Center.

The really sad thing is, it was a decent enough video. It actually did a good enough job in highlighting the positives that WWE has to offer.

But there really is no getting past the timing of it. It reeks of cynicism. Does anyone see this as anything other than an election ploy? Does anyone see this as anything besides "Stop looking at that mountain of dead wrestlers and LOOK AT ALL THE GOOD STUFF WE DO!"?

For the record, I love Canadian politics. I don't understand the American system, but it's still a fascinating subject.

And I will stand up for WWE, even though sometimes I just can't stand WWE.

I think the point was more that Canadian fans (especially ones that chanted for Bret Hart all night) are definitely more apt to boo Vince no matter what he's saying.

Legit LOL, nice work.

Canadian who's loves American politics. But to 99% of us (even conservatives like me) the Republicans in general seem crazy (universal health care = death panels...seriously?? TERROR BABIES???) so Linda's kind of an uphill battle even if we love double-double-E

Notice at the end Vince says to show the power of the WWE, not the WWE Universe. While wrestling still gets a bad rap from the mainstream and reporters are clueless about it (Foley said recently many interviewers never quoted him because he didn't totally slag Linda/WWE, and one didn't know who Cena is), this is still the company that employed most of the wrestlers dead before 40 and responds to their deaths by saying "We released them X months ago! That wasn't our fault." Plus there was the whole necrophilia thing...but I guess since that was before June 2008 it never happened.

I'll defend wrestling, wrestlers & wrestling fans much more than WWE- although they do get a lot of shit that's not all deserved and do some good re:Make-A-Wish & troops.

Shut up, Josh!
