Well one of the local stations has started playing the title track from Metalica's latest.
Personally I don't care for it. They went for a bare-bones style, to me it sounds like they recorded it in someones garage. Not that thats the problem, my problem is that its the same old thing, He's St. Anger he doesn't get any respect, he's angry. Oh well looks like I'll be saving 15 bones.

Having heard the song live, I feel confident in saying that it is excellent.

I had the misfortune of seeing the video last night on MTV2. I literally laughed out loud at how horrid everything about the song was. Robert Trujillo's vocals are not a welcome addition, the sound production was quite poor, the song itself was all over the place, and Lars trying to do blastbeats was ludicrous. You're not a BM/DM drummer Lars - give it up!

I'm sorry, but "St. Anger" has to be the weakest Metallica song I've heard by far - even worse than "I Disappear". Did they completely forget how to write a good song? Hell, they had lots of them back in the 80's. Maybe they should go back and listen to some of their back catalogue for inspiration the next time around.

If I get the hankering for some metal, I think I'll just go for something of the Norwegian or Swedish variety. Although, Metallica haven't been a metal band since the Black Album, so whatever.

I like it better than anything on Load or Reload. It's got some cool oldschool metal back beats on it. The song does kinda sound like it's going in too many directions at once though.

I truely am amazed at the Metallica backlash though. The Load/ReLoad fans won't be happy because it's to hard. The oldschool fans won't be happy because it's not the same old stuff they used to do. I might really like this song more if I wasn't so sick of them talking. Right now I'm in the middle on this, but slightly impressed.

Is the song about Bill DeMott? HE'S ANGRY!

Actually, 'Saint Anger' isn't a bad name for a wrestler.

Personally, I like a band to change, but Metallica didn't change in a direction that I enjoy. I heard that they were heading back to a heavier style, so I was a bit intrigued. Once I heard St. Anger though, that intrigue flew out the window.

I'm not saying other people shouldn't enjoy it, but I found it highly intolerable. Nothing more, nothing less.

I'll buy it when others decide its cool? Like who, should I buy all my CDs based upon the top 25, or maybe you have a list you would like to give me of required listening. Glad you like it, your entitled to your opinion. However I don't care for it, and if its any indication of whats instore for the rest of the album I won't buy it, no matter if its cool or not.

I heard it on the radio today and couldn't stand it, but then again, Metallica's never been my thing anyway.

Hey Brick, sorry for the snide remark above. I usually think a little more before I post.

I need to remember that not everyone likes their music and that's OK.

Metallica's music gets me through alot.....even their crappy songs!

Just heard the song today, and felt very underwhelmed. It was just too....goofy. I was hoping for a return to form as well, and this wasn't a good sign. By the way, I don't mind the idea of a band changing (hey, I'm a Rush fan, and who's changed more than them?) but only if it's a change I can get into. I didn't like Load, or anything that came afterward, and it looks like that trend's going to continue.

And judging from this song, it looks like Lars is intent on clutching to the "Most Overrated Drummer Ever" title.

I don't care for Lars (or Metallica) at all, but I will admit the guy is an amazing drummer. He is (gasp) up there with Neil Peart.

Well thank goodness you thought long and hard enough to weigh in on a discussion about METALLICA then.

No. I disagree that he's anywhere near Neil's skill level. Lars is good at speed playing, and making some loud noise, but he has no technical skill whatsoever. He is the time-keeper for Metallica, while Neil is one of the few drummers who actually uses his kit as a musical instrument.

I wouldn't even say that Lars is that great of a speed drummer, since I've heard many a drummer that play faster than Lars and are much more technically proficient - Henry Ranta from Soilwork, Gene Hoglan from Death/Strapping Young Lad/Testament, and Virgil Donati from Planet X to name a few.

Of course, none of these drummers (or bands) have as high of a profile as Metallica does, so it's unlikely that most people know about these bands outside of people in death metal or progressive (i.e. Rush) circles.

I saw the video for the first time this morning, and was praying like crazy to see the cast of Oz show up. That being said, I enjoyed the song quite a bit.
