Color me surprised. I thought he'd take it in an instant.
Now the question is, who gets to take over for Zook? And are Florida fans going to be pissed off at Spurrier for "spuring" them? I know Spurrier and the AD weren't exactly best friends, so is the AD going to get the heat instead of Spurrier?| Promote this thread! | | Grimis

I have no idea why anyone still thinks Steve Spurrier is capable of coaching an NFL team. From what I can tell, he cant handle NFL players.
Im going to make a prediction that Spurrier is holding out to see if Texas fires Mack Brown. Thats the job I think he wants.

People, we don't have enough money to hire him (well, we have the money, but we have tight people in the head offices), we don't have golf year-round, and, most importantly, Joe Paterno is football dictator for life, and he's going to finish his contract (3+ LONG years).
I guess the "where will he go" speculation will continue until he actually picks a place to go, huh? | JayJayDean

Chris Mortensen had a nice column (only available Insiders on ESPN.com, bastards) where he argued that it wasn't a game planning issue for Spurrier but a player relations issue AND a coaching staff issue, like he didn't surround himself with coaches that would help him succeed in the NFL. He thinks if Spurrier wants the Dolphins job he can have it and the he'd do much better this time having gone through it once.
