I'm for one was all excited yesterday watching SportsCenter and seeing the position players peppering for the first time this season. I find spring training the way baseball should be played, with less stress on the economical and more on the fun factor. Anyways I wonder if anybody is from the spring training areas (i.e. Florida and Arizona) or have been to spring training games and have any stories to share Hopefully I may be going to Disney to see my Braves play and head south on I95 to catch other teams also and want to know what will i topple with.

I went to the Cactus League games last year, since most of the teams I like play there (Oakland, Seattle, San Diego).

I was happy since I got see while I was there:

1. Tony
2. Ichiro
3. Schill pitch at the Bob

Tangentially, I was happy that Phoenix had an ESPN radio station, so I didn't have to miss the Kornheiser show while I was on vacation, even though it did come on at 7 am local time.

Every year I promise myself that THIS will be the year I pack it up and drive 5 hours to AZ to catch a few spring games.

Then I look at my opening day tickets and go.. "Eh."

THIS will be the year!

I wonder what Pads camp will be like 1) without Mr. Tony and 2) after the death.

An interesting question, I think I heard Dibble bring up on the radio, is how the death might effect the Mariners.

For those that don't know, the Pads and the M's train in basically the same place, using the same stadium in whichever Phoenix suburb in which they play. (I remember it was near a Borders.)

Guru,

You should pack it up and come on over for spring training. It is much better than going to a game in the regular season. Players are more relaxed and freindly, much closer to the action, and much more enjoyable. Not to mention, much, much cheaper!

Years ago, the Orioles made their spring training home in Miami, where I used to live. Any time the Mets would come in for a game, I'd go with the family (or, if it was a day game, I'd skip school and go with some friends. During an authorized family trip, me, my dad, and 4 of my cousins shlep out to a Friday night game. It was 1986. George Foster was still on the team and he hits a foul near our seats. And I'm lined up perfectly. I lift my glove, settle under it, and start looking the ball into my glove and wait for it to drop in. Then, my damn cousin Willie jumps on his seat, climbs over my back, extends his glove over mine and steals my damn foul ball!!! Little prick. I've never even been close to catching a foul since, and I've been to dozens of games.
Freakin' jerk, Willie.

Spring training ball is where it's at. I'm old enough to have gone when you didn't have to actually pay to get into the stadiums to see workouts. I used to head down when the Red Sox trained in Winter Haven. They are much more relaxed and fan-friendly in this atmosphere.

I haven't gotten the chance myself to go down to Spring Training at all yet (school and all), but I'm hoping that during Spring Break or something that I can get down there to see it. Y'all are making me want to even more than I already did. ;)

I am actually taking a vacation this weekend and going to see my White Sox take on the defending world champs. I can't wait. It is snowing unbelievably hard here in Champaign, and I need some sun. Bring on the D-Backs!

It is mid May, and your Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays are in sole possession of 1st place in the AL East.
