Spider-Man is getting a new teenage sidekick named Alpha (comicsalliance.com) in Amazing Spider-Man #692.

The idea is for him to mentor a teenage kid in great power leading to great responsibility. But the kid's names suck. His name is Andrew Maguire, as in Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire, the cinematic Spider-Men mashed up. But I especially hate his code name, Alpha.

Alpha's a dumb name for Spider-Man sidekick. It should be Webster.

Given Spidey's track record, as far as keeping loved ones safe, I have to question if this is the best career move for Mr. Maguire.

Personally, I'd rather try and be Iron Man's sidekick, just for a shot at Tony Stark's luxurious liquor cabinet.

If anything, Peter Parker needs a mercy killing in the 616 universe. I am still not sold on the Black/Latin, maybe Gay Ultimate one.

They don't need to cook up a new hero for this. Avengers Academy has young heroes, Runaways are still out there presumably, the Fantastic Four has a whole class of sidekicks, and Wolverine & The X-Men is all about teaching young mutants. Is Gravity still out there? Frog-Boy?

Heck, they've got Spider-Girl (nee Arana) right there.

With a name like Alpha, I'm pretty sure the end result of this is going to be giving Spider-Man a new enemy, one which he is basically responsible for creating.

as long it's not tied into Onslaught Alpha and Omega. Or Alpha Flight and Omega Flight.

There's a Fantastic Four set coming out as well, I think either this month or next month. I have the Spider-Man one. The scanning is pretty well done. It's all in PDF.
