I never liked Venom and I got tired of that whole direction and got out before Carnage ever showed up, so I'd be perfectly happy if the throwaway mention of "Eddie" was all they ever did.

At the end of the movie, it seems like Harry would be in control of Oscorp (there's no board, no sale and no Norman). That seems like a solid enough jumping-off point to have him funding whomever they end up going with for the next movie. Doc Ock works if they stay with the high-tech Goblin armor stuff and the Lizard works if they stay with the genetic engineering idea. Either one can be created in some way through Oscorp to act out Harry's revenge and still keep their basic origins. By the same token, they can do the Scorpion with Harry in place of Jamison, or have Harry and the Bugle both out to get Spider-man.

I want to see the Shocker, maybe as just the guy who gets caught in the opening sequence. He always seemed to get stuck as the low man on the Spider-villain totem pole and I always liked the poor guy.

As for the movie itself, I thought it was pretty damn good. It would have been hard to pull off a better Spider-man movie, I think. The CGI looked much better on the screen than in the commercials (except maybe the first time he's wallcrawling with the wrestling suit on) and the part where he chases down the killer was really great. Same with the mirror scene. I could have done without the "You mess with one New Yorker..." bit (it wanted to be that great scene in Superman II and failed) and that weird scene with the Goblin in Aunt May's room ("FINISH IT! FINISH IIIIIT!"). I got the devil motif and the continuing perversion of the Father (Our Father) concept, but it was way over the top.

With so many of Spidey's villains being tech-based, you can have a bunch of them all created at Oscorp -- Vulture, Electro, Shocker, Rhino, Spider Slayer, Scorpion.

I think, what would be great, is to have a bunch of B level villains appear throughout # 2 and then have them combine to form the Sinister Six in movie # 3.

As it happens they are ALREADY shooting a Daredevil movie with Ben Affleck as DD,

Ah hell, I'll just copy from IMDB

Credited cast overview:
Ben Affleck .... D.A. Matthew "Matt" Murdock
Jennifer Garner .... Elektra Natchios
Michael Clarke Duncan .... The Kingpin/Wilson Fisk
Colin Farrell (I) .... Bullseye
Jon Favreau .... A.D.A. Franklin "Foggy" Nelson
Joe Pantoliano .... Benjamin "Ben" Urich
David Keith .... Jack 'The Devil' Murdock

And Kevin Smith is playing...
Jack Kirby! ("lab assistant")

Wow, they're blowing their wad with Elecktra, the Kingpin AND Bullseye in the movie? They must be making the movie based on all the Frank Miller stuff. That should be cool.

If Spider-Man could pull off the Green Goblin as the villian (who has to be the most cartoonish Spidey villian ever) they can probably pull off any other villian and make it credible. Well, maybe not Stilt-Man.

I'm just wondering, if we keep talking about Mysterio being in the next Spiderman movie, how long will it be before the sites report that Rey Rey will be hanging with Tobey Maguire?

Hell, he did have a Spiderman style mask at one point.

Even better, word is that Garner signed for 3 pics, one of which is a planned Elektra solo feature.

I think Spiderman 2 should have ONE DAMN VILLAIN. This multiple baddy stuff is what killed the Batman series. Every movie had more and more bad guys in it until it was just gay. There's no time to focus on the character of one of them.
That being the case, I am torn as to who should appear in the next movie. I guess I'm kind of a purist because I hated the Green Goblin's metal suit. Why didn't they just make him a nasty slathering devil like in Ultimate Spiderman? The metal suit just looked stupid.

Mysterio - Yeah right. How would they do this?
Doc Ock - Probably the logical choice, though he's kind of a dork. He should be played by Jack Black. Scorpion - Another stupid suit that would need a major update.
Kraven - Definitely my choice. Kraven kicks ninety kinds of ass.
Venom - Why's everyone so down on Venom? He's hideous and dangerous. I think this would make a fine movie, but you're all right that the symbiote storyline is too complicated. It'll probably never happen.
Sandman, Vulture, Rhino, Electro, other cronies - Just glorified jobbers.
Lizard - Another logical choice, but he's always been more a henchman, too.
Green Goblin 2 (or merge Harry w/Hobgoblin story, as suggested) - I think this would rule because it's a logical progression and the Hobgoblin was always crazier and more satanic than GG, in my opinion. They need to do the demoic McFarlane-era Hobgoblin, though.

I don't think that Venom would be that difficult. In fact, you can combine it with other part of the Spidey back-story.

1. John Jameson, asrtonaut, comes back from space, with symbiote attatched to ship.

2. Spidey saves ship/shuttle.

3. Symbiote gets hooked up with Spidey (black suit).

End Act One

4. Spidey gets new powers from suit, but changes personality.

5. Spidey rejects symbiote, goes to Eddie Brock, who becomes Venom.

End Act Two

6. Lots of fighting.

7. Spidey wins.

End movie.

No, Joel Schumacher killed the Batman series.

All the homoerotic overtones in Batman and Robin made it just gay. Like nipples on the guys' suits, but not Batgirl's; giant naked men; Half naked men jumping around dressed as tribal savages; a shot of Batman's butt; Batman's credit card...the list goes on and on...

Didn't they do this exact thing -- what you mapped out in your synopsis -- on the Spider-Man cartoon about five years ago? It totally worked there, I don't see why they couldn't do it in movie form.

Well, I guess that's why it came to me so easily. :>

For all you old folks, one of my friends thinks the best Spider-Man movie would be to make the Master Planner story from around issue 28-30.

Using the cartoon version might clean up the symbiote side of the Venom story, but wasn't the Eddie Brock "Spider-man ruined my life" story really lame too? Something about Peter Parker exposing a story he was working on as a sham, and then busting the baddies behind it as Spider-man.

Kraven, The Lizard, Green Goblin, Scorpion, Punisher, Black Cat, Green Goblin II. Though I hate Carnage as a character, his story is much better than Eddie Brock's "Spider-man exposed my story as a sham" motive.
A lot of Spidey's other villains don't specifically hate HIM, but just always seem to tangle with him. Electro, Shocker, Vulture, and Rhyno, could conceivably, be anyone's villains because unless there has been some major change in the 10 years since I stopped reading Spidey, their only motive was $$$.

When you couple that "motive" with the symbiote's "motive" (along with its psychologically degenerative effects on the host) I'd say you have a pretty legitimate reason for the two to hate the guy.

My problem with Eddie Brock was that he seemed to be a decent guy. If I remember correctly (remember it's been 10 years since I read this) his "big story" was about some kind of enlightened new age cult that in reality was a front for some criminal doings. Wouldn't a decent guy (as Brock was portrayed) be a little upset at losing the story, but more relieved that it didn't go any further or that the criminal organization was stopped? If I fuck up at work, in such a way that it would jeopardize the safety of others, and I get fired for it, do I have an undying hatred of the guy who fixed the mistake? No. That is why Carnage has the better backstory...he is nuts. He WOULD logically want to kill that guy.
