| #1 Posted on 5.10.10 1733.51 | Story just broke. Emma Stone is the female lead in Marc Webb's Spider-Man reboot. But as Gwen Stacy, not Mary Jane Watson (who is rumored to be a minor character this time around). And before anyone freaks out about hair color, Emma Stone has been dying her hair red since Superbad.
Story with Sony Press Release here:
http://www.deadline.com/2010/10/emma-stone-in-spidey-but-with-switch/
The quote from Marc Webb is interesting:
Webb added, “The chemistry between Andrew and Emma was stunning and made Emma the clear choice. At the heart of the story of Peter Parker is not only the amazing Spider-Man, but also an ordinary teenager who is wondering what he has to do to get the girl. Andrew and Emma will bring everything audiences expect to these roles, but also make them their own. Much to my surprise, it was fun to find out that our choice for Gwen (Emma) is also a natural blonde.”
Er, how did Marc find this out and how much fun was it?

She was good in Zombieland but this was an even stronger showing, albeit in a lesser movie. Her timing and delivery is amazing for someone her age, especially a girl her age (girls ain't funny!). She deserves to be a big deal, she's like everything people thought Lindsay Lohan was back when people seemed to think Lindsay Lohan was good circa Mean Girls. | Big Bad

Ifans is so thoroughly Welsh that I can't imagine they'd try to have him do an American accent, so I'm a bit at a loss to guess what character he'd be playing. Mysterio? A young Vulture? A lower-tier character like Shocker who will now suddenly be revamped as a Welshman? | lotjx

I agree with you that Garfield is good, and just because he isn't a household name doesn't mean he won't be. Who was Hugh Jackman 10 years ago?
That being said, I liked Spacey as Lex. The movie that wasn't that great, but I don't blame him. Kate Bosworth, now that's another story. As is basically my entire post in relation to the original subject.

The Lizard! It's the Lizard. And how hilarious is it that Dylan Baker played Dr. Curt Conners in all three Sam Raimi Spider-Man movies and never became the Lizard. And now, the new Marc Webb Spider Villain is the Lizard! Hilarious, I say. |

I felt bad for Dylan Baker who played Connor in the Raimi movies. You know he was thinking "Aw yeah, these movies are so successful- man, it's only a matter of time before they use The Lizard and then cha-ching!!"
Bad thing is that Lizard isn't too different from Osbournes & Doc Ock in the Raimi movies. Could've used a guy who wasn't a friend of Peter that went Dark Side. |
