There's no script yet, but there's already a rumor:
The big surprise in the FoxNews.com report is word that one character who appears to die in Spidey 3 might return for Spidey 4. "It turns out I may not be completely dead," the unnamed actor who plays the unspecified character revealed.
While the obvious character in question would be Willem DaFoe's Green Goblin, I'm personally hoping it's Doc Ock, who performed circles around Goblin in Spidey 2. Either way, the series isn't done yet and I'm happy to hear it.
The Wisdom of Homsar: AaAaAa! I'm a trendy tote bag!
I'll be happy when Raimi and co. all sign on. Til then it's an unknown quantity.
I'd bet on the non-dead guy being Venom, btw. It says he "dies" in SPIDER-MAN 3, after all.
To those who say people wouldn't look; they wouldn't be interested; they're too complacent, indifferent and insulated, I can only reply: There is, in one reporter's opinion, considerable evidence against that contention. But even if they are right, what have they got to lose? Because if they are right, and this instrument is good for nothing but to entertain, amuse and insulate, then the tube is flickering now and we will soon see that the whole struggle is lost. This instrument can teach, it can illuminate; yes, and it can even inspire. But it can do so only to the extent that humans are determined to use it to those ends. Otherwise it is merely wires, and lights, in a box.-Edward R. Murrow
I found it funny when Kirsten Dunst said something along the lines that the 4th movie would suck unless she, Tobey, and Sam were back. I think I could tolerate a Spidey movie without her. Especially after seeing how hot Bryce Howard looks as Gwen. She's like a Romita drawing come to life.
Dean! Have you been shooting dope into your scrotum? You can tell me! I'm hip!

Well, Dunst is a big zero and Maguire could maybe be replaced, but it's Raimi who's the big cheese. I think getting him back in the director's chair is the most important thing, although I can see why he'd want to do something fresh after seven years on one franchise. Edgar Wright might make a good follow-up guy, if they're that way inclined.

If Raimi leaves this franchise to do The Hobbit, maybe they can get Peter Jackson to do SM 4? Sounds like a fair trade to me.

The movie is out over here already, and I've seen it. Ofcourse one name came to mind when I read who could be coming back after alledgedly being killed off. It makes perfect sense It is not the person that Cerebus believes.
I think Raimi would still be involved with a 4th one. And by now I would have trouble seeing someone else than Toby as Spider-man. Dunst? *Shrug* She is replacable but why would you? With a franchise like Spider-man you still have plenty of stories to tell.
PS-Thumbs up for the movie. It is very story driven..and in a different way than I thought. It's very dark yet it isn't? Action scenes are amazing.. And the stars of the movie are Thomas Hayden Church and Bruce Campbell.
Hey, 3 hours, 5 hours, they can make Spider-Man movies as long as they want to if they maintain the quality level and don't "Schumacher" the franchise.
They could go the opposite route of the comics, kill off Mary Jane and have Peter hook up with Gwen.

I really like how you've decided it's "definitely" "official" because there's a "rumor" that a character "may" be brought back in a sequel. I'm not saying there won't be a Spidey 4, just that this is far, far from "official" word on the matter.
Let's put it this way--I think it's safe to say that they had a plan in mind to revive Allan Quartermain for a sequel to League of Extraordinary Gentlemen, but that doesn't automatically mean it'll ever get made.

They just said the supposed resurrection will be of a character who dies in the third movie. Gobby and Ock died in the first two.
The thing is, barring a massive flop on SPIDER-MAN 3's part (which is well-nigh impossible), Spidey 4's been a go for the last coupla years. Avi Arad and the Sony cronies have repeatedly said that the fourth is going ahead, and Arad in particular has been vocal about it. It's going to deal with a "classic" villain, apparently, which thankfully rules out the rumoured inclusion of Morlun.

I imagine the supposed villain that looks to die but did in fact NOT was Venom.
Venom more than any other villain is probably the most popular and the one Sony would want to use again and just have him be the main heavy of just one Spidey flick. That or bring in Carnage for a big ass symbiote/Spidey kind of fight.
Hey, maybe Venom and Eddie made it out somehow, who knows.

Rumor does not mean official. Maybe it'd come to you're mind the next time you heard a rumor and said something was official.
You lied, you awful lier, by contradicting yourself by saying the movie is definitely a go then saying there's no script yet and it's a rumor. Such a tactic is best reserved for trolls who wish to gain hits on their sites, which is something I abhor wholeheartedly.
On topic, for those of you who chimed in after this abortion of logic, I would appreciate a Spider-Man 4.
Hold nothing sacred and you'll never be dissapointed. Especially not this statement.

Originally posted by the article Friedman said Raimi advised him that there will be a Spidey 4, adding that it's "not clear which cast members will return, but as Raimi said, 'It's all about getting a script.'"
Sam Raimi said there will be a Spider-Man 4. Things can change of course, but that's official enough for me right now. The rumor is what's the story about. You can know that a movie is going to happen without being sure what the details are.
To recap: Spider-Man 4 will happen, according to its director: FACT (assuming the article writer didn't make it up). Spider-Man 4 will involve a character previously thought to be dead: RUMOR.
Studio Signs for Three More 'Spider-Man' Movies Webbed superhero Spider-Man will appear in at least three more movies, Sony Pictures has confirmed. The studio's chief executive Michael Lynton said after the box office success of the latest release Spider-Man 3, there is a huge audience waiting to see the story continue. Lynton tells BBC News, "Everybody has every intention of making a fourth, a fifth and a sixth and on and on. (We'll make) as many as we can make good stories for." Spider-Man 3 entered the record books as the most successful new release ever after taking $148 million in its opening weekend. Lynton enthuses, "I think it had a lot to do with timing - the fact we were the first out in the summer. I think it had to do with the fact that the movie had a universal appeal, it had a broader appeal than the second movie, it attracted a family audience and brought the family audience back. There were many factors that contributed to it, and there's a part that you just put down to 'I don't know'." Lynton did not confirm whether director Sam Raimi or Tobey Maguire would be coming back for the fourth installment and beyond.
To answer what will surely be an FAQ: "YES, there is a post-credits scene" and you'll probably like it. I wasn't disappointed with Kingsley as the Mandarin at all, but a little let down with the direction they went with the character.
