Yes! Because five ballgames have more predictive value than the whole rest of the season!

Yow.

BTW, I'm afraid of Tim Wakefield.

But I will believe.

Last year, I predicted a Sox World Series win within five years. This is the first time the Sox have gone to the ALCS in back to back years since I believe the early 1900's. All of this might be a way of talking myself down from an impending defeat, but I'll remain optimistic, about this season and all those seasons upcoming. As the man says, in Theo we trust.

Yep, I know what he meant, but it can all change in the spotlight, just like Varitek's horrible season in Yankee Stadium turned around in two games.

I like Wakefield. I also like having the Yankees win when the Cubs are gone (which is all the time).

Wakefield just might get the Sox back into this series. Now if they could just get Bob Walk on the mound for a game, I'd be marking out big time. Then break Chico Lind out of the asylum and he'll deliver his one homer.

Another McCarver-ism:
"National League HITTERS haven't figured out Albert Pujols, yet".

Also, it wasn't McCarver, but I think it was during the Astros-Braves series when some brain surgeon said "I GUARANTEE ya', we MIGHT see him!" HUH?

I learned it as a kid, something like "selective paying attention". You don't expect me to throw out stats that don't make me warm and fuzzy inside, do you?

I stated that he gave up nine runs, not nine earned runs. He could give up 10 two out home runs, after an error, and while they wouldn't be "earned", they still count, and he still gave 'em up. The only reason I threw the numbers that I did on the post was because when I think about a pitcher "destroying" another team, I think in terms of that insane game Pedro had against the Yanks a few years ago, or even Lieber in Game 2 perhaps. I just don't see Wakefield's performance against the Yankees as "destroying", though I will certainly admit that he has been more than solid and good.

You know, I don't think I had seen any comments on the Fox Diamond Cam. I thought that was pretty cool, especially when they stopped using it after EVERY SINGLE PITCH in the first inning. That was a good idea, methinks....

Make that ever. Considering there was no ALCS before 1969, I think that's a safe bet :)

Anybody try and have intelligent conversation at the Red Sox official message board?
It seems that for every pro-Sox post there are three times as many Yankee fan trolls waiting to bash them. I don't know if it's the same on the Yankees board. I love a good rivalry, but it gets kind of ridiculous.

The official MLB message boards are a joke. Even though there are suposedly moderators(my brother was one for the Mets' board) there are 13 year old trolls on every board where there is a rivalry. Most of their post go unchecked. And yes it works both ways between the Yanks and Boston.

That's why I'll only read the W for the Sox-Yanks stuff. No stupidity(more or less.) ;)

If he can get at least into the 6th, I'll take Can over Lowe at this point. Hell, I'll take Tom Bolton over Lowe. But, I'm also the same person who despite him being retired for a quarter of a century and probably being around 70 after converting Cuban years to American years would still take my shot with Luis Tiant on the mound for 1 game.

I feel a lot better about Lowe starting Game 5 in Fenway than in the Death Star...er, Yankee Stadium.

And here's hoping Kevin Brown has another Yawkey Way Meltdown in Game 3 tonight.

I'm going off here: If I never see Curtis Leskanic again in this or any other lifetime, it will be way to soon. As the radio announcers say when he comes in the game "Everything he throws is hard". Unfortunately, they forget to mention one important fact: Everything that he throws gets hit even harder. I'd rather see Mrs. Yawkey take the mound than Leskanic, and she's been dead a dozen years and was about 120 years old even then.
My next subject is Mr. Doug Mientkiewicz: Shut your trap about playing time. The way this series is going, they should have left him off the playoff roster and used Dave McCarty as the back-up first basemen. Hell, he's a better pitcher than Leskanic and at least he's a lefty who can go more than one batter.
This series has broken into '83 Celtics/Bucks territory. Time to start warming up the theme to M*A*S*H: Suicide is painless, it brings life's many changes, and I can take or leave it either way (no, I'm not being literal).

Just a reminder that we REALLY don't need the "real-time update" type posts here. This probably should have waited until the game was/is over.

Well this has all been quite pathetic. The entire season led up to this? Give me a break. What a momentous choke job. They weren't really going to get a more vulnerable, beatable Yankee team. And I get the impression that "wait 'til next year" just ain't gonna cut it. It was supposed to be this year.

This sucks so bad. Not only do my SoCal teams get destroyed, but now my only real hope (Sox) is dashed.

As someone on the Sports Reporters said a bit ago, I think a little league team with Yankee uniforms could defeat the Boston Red Sox. They are making the Yankees look like the Cardinals. I can only hope now that New York feels deflated after winning "their" World Series and are swept by the Cardinals (or Astros).

RORY: So, is this party Grandma's having going to be a big deal?
LORELAI: Not really. The government will close that day. Flags will fly at half-mast. Barbra Streisand will give her final concert...again.
RORY: Uh-huh.
LORELAI: Now, the Pope has previous plans, but he's trying to get out of them. However, Elvis and Jim Morrison are coming and they're bringing chips.

Heh... thanks. I think I was parroting that from the guys at Fox or something. A quick check at baseball-reference.com shows that the Sox were the Wild Card winners in '98-'99, went to the Series '15'-'16, won the '03 series and then won the AL in '04. So, back-to-back postseason appearances are pretty rare in these parts.

Now that's what I'm talking about. The Sox didn't believe the hype in this game. They took it to Rivera and wound up winning because of heart and determination. I hope they make history by being the first team to come back from 0-3 to win it all.

But all joy aside, why the hell was Bellhorn even in the game? He's been performing so terribly all season and he can't do anything but strike out against Yankee pitching. Bring in Pokey. At least no one expects anything out of him, so whatever you do get from him is a bonus.

I'm with redsoxnation on this... my heart stopped when they turned to Leskanic.

Hopefully Pedro throws a complete game shutout tomorrow because the Sox pen is looking pretty rough right now.

Don't say that. As a Flames fan still suffering from the Habs curse, you DO NOT SAY ANYTHING ABOUT BREAKING A CURSE until after you've done it.

Cool, pieman. My interview with Charlie Metro was waaaaay too short. I would have loved to get into the College of Coaches thing more, the Brock trade, and the inception of the Royals.
