And the half-season ends with...probably the most depressing episode of South Park that I've ever seen, aside from the episode they did after Isaac Hayes left the series. And it's an episode that actually shakes up the status quo with Randy and Sharon splitting up. I have to say all of this was a shock to me.

Looking at the overtones of the episode, I can't help but think that there's a bigger message here. The more you grow up, the more the stuff that used to be cool and funny starts to look like shit. It makes me wonder if this is Parker and Stone's subtle way of hinting that this show isn't fun to them anymore and they're getting ready to wrap it up for good?

Right after it ended, I said to my buddy that should have been the last episode. Stan grows out of the gang, Kyle and Cartman become friends and Randy and Sharon split (although I thought at first they sold the house and moved as a family to a new town, but splitting up is more likely).

This definately has the looks and smell of a series that is coming to an end due to the creators being tired of it. I see one more season and then good bye. After this season, I would not blame them. I just hope they go out with a bang and not a thud.

Life is hilariously cruel.

That was my reaction exactly. And if it really isn't fun to them anymore, it really has shown this season.

Taking it with a grain of salt, the Wikipedia entry for it says it is the first of a two parter.

This half-season has been a real dud. If this is the best effort they can bother to put into it; they really need to end the show after this season ends. I think they've just run out of ideas alltogether.

By the way; this season is the last one they're contracted for unless it gets renewed for Season 16+ later this year. I'm sure Comedy Central wants them to renew.

They'll bitch about Comedy Central and how terrible it is there as well as how bored they are with the show. Then, they will sign another huge contract. They do this almost every three years. Honestly, after the 2004 election episode if your vote doesn't matter, because either guy sucks then to go out and bash Bush's handling of Katerina was very hypocritical. The Puffy Vote or Die and the Cartman W made that episode, but I remember thinking if they say anything about how bad either President is after this then they are probably even more douchebags then the nominees. After that, I watched sparingly and the wife hates the show. That more then anything is probably why I don't watch it anymore. Yes, I am that whipped.

I think if they are bored its probably due to the fact they are now Tony nominated if not winners at this point. XM is letting them have an entire station for a weekend to shill that show. If they win they are probably gone. I hope they do since they got fucked at the Oscars for OH Canada. Best musical number ever at the Oscars, ever.

I shocked Stevie Nicks let them use Landslide.

Randy and Sharon have split before.

Best episode this season and the most depressing episode of the entire series.

Everyone raise their hands if you thought Parker and Stone were making fun of 'You' with the whole cynicism thing.

Bob Dylan DOES sound like shit though, now debating there.

Maybe they've made this half-season's run of episodes lackluster on purpose- to lead up to last night's episode, so they can come back later in the year with an interesting conclusion to the two-parter, and better episodes?

You don't criticize Bob Dylan within earshot of Justin Shapiro (which, thanks to the Internet, is everywhere). You will lose the argument. I've done so repeatedly.

EDIT: Oh yeah, but seriously, Bob Dylan does not sound like shit.

Re: Bob Dylan -- He has never been my brand of vodka and then I heard "The Times They Are a-Changin'" during the opening of The Watchmen movie. His style still isn't for me, but I LOVE that song now. I heard it before, but I just never "got it" until then.

Re: South Park -- They always used to be about humor, with a bit of social commentary. After around when Mr. Slave showed up, they took a slight shift in tone and started becoming mostly social commentary with some humor. Especially after Cartoon Wars, it became "Who were they going to 'get' next?"

It can easy to see them (or one of them) look back at those early seasons and really hate what they used to do.

In any event, I was actually floored by that closing of the episode. When they want to be powerful and dramatic, it really works.

But Sharon said that "this shit always seems to reset itself by the next week" (or words to that effect) ... I actually wouldn't be surprised if the next new episode features the family back together as if nothing has happened.

I thought this was a great episode. The movie previews were hilarious and I'm thinking, "That's how I feel!" Then Stan becomes a complete douche and I'm like, "Oh..."

That's what good satire should do.

I still really like the show and would be sad to see it end. It's a lot like The Simpsons to me. The episodes aren't always home runs, but even when they hit singles and doubles I still enjoy having it around to watch.

It was a little scary how much I feel like Stan at times.

Matt and Trey were on The Daily Show about a week or two ago and they said they had a blast writing the episode and people kept asking them "Are you guys ok?" after it aired.

They said they can't wait to see how it ends as they won't get back to writing until August, probably the week before it has to air.

Wow, Buster as the drone pilot was some incredibly dark stuff. It seems he also got George Michael laid in Madrid. Buster's time spent abandoned was also pretty sad and tragicomic. Of course, it was only two days. Real glad Dr.
