I think it was definitely more of a Wicker Man parody rather than anything else. Great episode, though.

The wikipedia page (for what it's worth) says "Britney's New Look" borrows from both stories.

I don't know how to talk about the episode... it was just... I don't know.

The one thing that kept running through my head is 'what must Britney think of this?' I'd hope she can see how she wasn't the butt of the jokes as much as the media's obsession with her was.

What were they chanting in Latin?

This season has been insane so far.

Have you seen The Lottery? I think it was a mix of both. The background buildings and the woman handing the camera (rock) to the kid are obvious. And the whole part about sacrificing someone.

I thought this episode was much weaker than last week's AIDS episode. Some of it was the grotesque image of Britney, but mostly it was that the jokes fell flat.

Last week though, I was laughing so hard, so often. "You have AIDS. That's so...retro."

last weeks episode was very funny. This weeks... not as much, I thought.

I have a friend who saw last weeks and he said he hated it. He says he doesn't 'get' Cartman and just doesn't fine the character all that funny, and this amazes me. How can ANYONE not find Eric Cartman funny?

Cartman is like one of the single best television characters ov the past decade. he's this horrible little asshole who literally gets away with murder, says anything and everything that comes into his head, and does whatever he wants whenever he wants.

What is there NOT to 'get' about him? I just don't understand.

I love Cartman and agree with you, but for every Scott Tenormen episode where Cartman comes out on top, there's an AWESOME-O episode where Cartman suffers. The way the writer's strike that balance is brilliant.

Jackson, I thought the woman handing the boy the rock was reminiscent of the mother handing the daughter the torch in Wickerman. I think both stories are similar enough that the concepts blend together well. Either way, the episode was well done in that respect.

Again, did you even look at the links I gave? I mean it's not worth debating but once you see it, it's over.

While the entire episode was based on both stories, the ending itself is practically word for word the same as the end of The Lottery.

Just watch final 2 minutes of the second link and get back to me.

"You go ahead, I'll catch up with ya!"

"Here ya go Davey."

While it was reminiscent of Wickerman the ending is practically verbatim of The Lottery.

And yes, I know I must sound like Comic Book Guy at this point.

It may take from a few movies, but this episode was mostly, esp. the end, a complete take of The Lottery.

The best part was Ed Begley, Jr. was in the credits for the original Lottery short.

A loved this episode. I thought it was awesome, esp. since I did not see WickerMan or The Lottery.

"Marriage is like that show ‘Everybody Loves Raymond’, but it’s not funny. All the problems are the same, but you know instead of all the funny, pithy dialogue, everybody is really pissed off and tense. Marriage is like a tense, unfunny version of 'Everybody Loves Raymond', only it doesn't last 22 minutes. It lasts forever."

Hamtaro misses you too!

The payoff to Butters wearing the squirrel suit had me in stitches.
