I thought this was the perfect close to the election season. They did a great job, once again, of playing up everyone's greatest hype/fear about the election.

I loved the McCain supporters survival cave, Randy being...well, Randy...and Butters lament for "poor old Mr. McCain".

Also...Ike rules! Boom baby!

How did they make that episode so soon?

Randy Marsh was a highlight as usual.

I figure they had another episode waiting in the wings, either a similar episode but with McCain as the winner or a completely different episode having nothing to do with the election. The only thing they HAD to do at the last minute was insert quotes/animation from Obama's victory speech and McCain's concession speech (as well as matching animation, I suppose). I'd like to see that other episode though!

Tuesday night they had a teaser of the episode right before the election special and they used generalized dialogue about the "president-elect" heading to the White House.

I know that they can bang out an episode in about 10 days so I'm sure they had everything done but the speeches (it included references to the new puppy) and which side won and lost.

I'm sure they recorded at most 5-6 mins of dialogue and pulled an all nighter to bang out the animation. They've done it before. The homeless episode with the zombies ("Can you spare some change? Change?") they changed a whole scene before it aired. The previews had Randy rushing into his house scared about the homeless wanting change. In the actual episode, he ran into the rec center.

EDIT:
I found an article on it: http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/11/south-park-crea.html

Didn't they produce "The Return Of Chef!" in like a week? And that was harder, because not only was it all original animation, but they had to comb through and splice a bunch of old Isaac Hayes dialogue. Their turnaround time is amazing. And we're supposed to be impressed that the Family Guy guys inserted a McCain-Palin campaign button into an episode that was probably animated months ago? :-)

If I remember right, when Saddam was captured, they turned an episode around in three days. It wasn't all that great, but they did it.

Apparently this time they just assumed Obama would win, and were waiting for the speeches for quotes, and to see what the backgrounds would look like.

Didn't the Elian Gonzalez episode air the next day as well?
Sadaam was very close as well.

They must be exhausted doing these. I can just see the courier arriving with the tape at 9:45 or the satellite feed coming in then or however they get the episode from their place to Comedy Central.
