I know this week probably wasn't as exciting as previous weeks for some people, due at least in part to the fact that most top-ranked teams held their spots, but Monday and still no thread? Guess I'll attempt to start one.

Although it happened on Thursday night, the top story this week is probably Boston College remaining unbeaten. Yes, Matt Ryan looked bad for most of the game, but when it really counted, he showed why he's one of the front runners for the Heisman. And with Florida's poor performance on Saturday and Oregon's continued, well, being on the west coast, you have to figure Ryan is now the favorite to win it. Oh, and Boston College is probably going to be in the title game. Wow.

This Georgia Tech alum hates UGA with a burning passion so color me unimpressed by their on-field antics against Florida. They ended a possible, if tenuous, chance for Florida to repeat as national champs, and all people can talk about is their classless celebration after their first score. I wonder if Mark Richt can be punished for this? Probably not.

Hawaii is sneaking its way up the rankings. If they win out they're pretty much guaranteed to crash the BCS party. They'll need some help, though, to fulfill my BCS-destroying dream of a Kansas-Hawaii national championship game. Hehe.

Arizona State might be my new favorite team, and Dennis Erickson has to be the odds-on favorite for coach of the year honors. If they beat Oregon next week, or hell, if Oregon beats THEM next week, you have to figure one or the other will sneak into the national championship game.

How 'bout that 15-lateral play by Trinity? Pretty weak play calling by the announcer nearly ruins the moment, and the defense clearly stopped playing several times during the play (either because they thought the game was over or because they're sucky Division III football players), but I still think this play was more impressive than THE Play.

Welcome to real football games, South Florida. Sloppy play against inferior opponents only gets you so far. And to think, UConn football was almost comparable to Duke football half a decade ago. My, how times have changed!

I watch college football religiously, but I'm not too big on thread starting heh.

I was big time impressed by BC's win. I wasn't one of the people throwing around the "undeserving" moniker at them (which people still are), although I don't think they are by any means a great team. However, what has this season shown us? There aren't any great teams in college football right now. There are a number of good teams, most of which have beaten each other up. Ohio State has taken care of business, and frankly so has Boston College. Manning up for that victory was beyond impressive and in this season of mediocrity/parity more than cements that #2 rank to BC until they actually lose, in my opinion.

I love what Georgia did. LOVE it. The reason why I love college football so much is the passion. There's always some frenetic energy lacking in pro football that is always present even in the tiniest of college football games. As for the teams, I've always been more of a Florida State person, never really liked Florida. Urban Meyer's always bothered me, and this "Superman" hype about Tebow was wearing thin as well. So to see Georgia, who had been losing regularly to the Gators, come out with that celebration on the first touchdown and carry that intensity throughout the rest of the game was amazing. I give credit to Florida for fighting back, too. That was one hell of a hard-hitting, nice scoring, entertaining game. Mark Richt deserves all the credit in the world for that game; this Wolverines fan wishes Lloyd Carr had half the coaching passion and drive that Richt showed, as concerns the Buckeyes.

While on that subject, f' you again Carr for sitting Hart. Whether it was precautionary or gamesmanship, that cost him a Heisman run and that kid MORE than deserves it. He lives up to his name in a literal sense, and to see him not in the running for the award he has earned simply kills me.

I can't believe what happened in Happy Valley. I'm speechless about it. What the hell Penn State?!?! Beaver Stadium was building such a good, credible night game reputation.

I would say this. There is a great team and it's name is LSU. Yes they have a loss, but to say that team that has faced that many top 25 teams and only has one overtime loss isn't great is wrong. They are. They really are.

BC was impressive/lucky in it's win. I give them credit for finally getting a big win, but at the same time I'm still not sold on them overall. I would not be shocked to see them struggle against FSU, and no that's not because I'm an FSU homer. That game is likely to be harder than people are thinking right now.

Ohio State...I just don't know. Let's see them against Michigan before I believe. Which is all kinds of crazy talk.

Personally, I thought BC's win was less than impressive. They played like shit for 58 minutes.

Of course, on the other hand, they only needed to play two minutes to win.

Oh, come on, you're a Michigan fan - you've seen PSU choke in enough big games already!

Whatever Ohio State saw on the tapes regarding our DBs, they exploited them but good. Justin King (#1) was tossing around the idea of going pro after this, his junior year. Ohio State just found the weakness and exploited it repeatedly; Penn State never adjusted out of the stupid bend-but-don't-break defense - exactly like ND '06. That Ohio State/Michigan game to close out the year should be for the Big Ten championship (again) and should be another classic - especially if Mike Hart is healthy.

I'm not disagreeing with you on the quality of LSU, but it is worth pointing out that they are only a couple of plays short of having three losses and being in the same boat as Florida (although since one of those losses would have been to Florida, THEY would be the one-loss team there amongst the unbeatens).

Oregon-ASU for the inside track to Pac-10 title is this Saturday.

LSU actually was hurt in their bye week, as the loss to Kentucky isn't that great, considering it is the only game Kentucky has won in their last 4, and 1 of those losses is to Miss. State.
If they beat Ohio State, the pre-season polls will end up being correct and Michigan will be a Top 5 team. That's how little sense this season makes.
I don't think Boston College runs the table, because they always find ways to lose to Miami in the last 2 decades, and it will be tough to knock off Virginia Tech again in the ACC Title game, should both get there.
Here are some fun scenarios to throw out: Winner of Oregon/Arizona State run the table, winner of Kansas/Oklahoma runs the table, Hawaii, LSU, Ohio State, and BC run the table. That would mean BC vs. Ohio State in the National Title Game, then the damn contractual obligations hit. LSU as SEC Champ plays Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl. Arizona State/Oregon winner plays 3-4 loss SEC Team or loser of Kansas/Oklahoma or 3 loss Michigan in the Rose Bowl? Kansas/Oklahoma winner plays loser Arizona State/Oregon or 3-4 loss SEC team or 2-3 loss USC in Fiesta Bowl? UCONN or West Virginia plays 3-4 loss SEC team or Michigan in the Orange Bowl? And, Ohio State has pretty much lost any shot at the Rose Bowl: If they beat Michigan, they play for the National Title. IF they lose to Michigan, Michigan goes to the Rose Bowl and they play Hawaii in the Sugar Bowl, should LSU not lose. Is it possible to turn down a BCS Bowl and go to the Capital One Bowl in that situation? And would I like to see the obligations chucked, and get LSU vs. Oregon in the Rose Bowl if neither is in the BCS Title Game.

Since the Orange bowl ended their affiliation with the Big East Champion this year, what would happen if BC (or an ACC team) makes it to the title game? Would they select a different team to represent the ACC?

I doubt they would take an ACC team if BC is in the National Title Game, as that team would have minimum 3 losses.
I forgot Texas in my scenarios, as they would replace Kansas should Oklahoma win the Big XII.
I'm guessing the 2 team rule is still in place, otherwise I'd see the Orange Bowl jumping all over getting a 3 loss Florida vs. 3 loss Alabama and bringing Saban back to his old Stadium angle, especially if the Big XII 2nd team has already been snatched by the Rose Bowl. It would be interesting which SEC team were to get taken, because that might be more of who sells more hotel rooms over who is the better team if it is close. If the Rose were to take Michigan/Wisconsin winner, then Texas/Oklahoma would probably be in the Orange Bowl.

If a Bowl loses a host team to the title game, then the bowl gets first choice at a replacement team. The rest of the selection order is as follows: Orange, Fiesta, Sugar.

Aaaaand you-know-who has gone from national title hopeful to bottom of the Big East. Three consecutive losses to three unranked Big East teams will do that to ya.

Meanwhile Michigan is playing like THEY'RE a national title hopeful. Full circle, my friends. Full circle.

In a College Football world that no longer makes sense, Thank God for Michigan State still knowing how to grasp defeat from the jaws of victory to bring some semblence of balance to the world.
As bad as he was, Gerry Faust didn't lose to Navy. Couldn't beat Air Force, but at least he beat Navy. We are closing in on 58-7 against Miami in '85 territory in terms of new low points for Notre Dame.
Didn't Kansas used to go entire decades without scoring a combined 76 points against Nebraska?
Since when is Blackledge allowed to call a football game outside of the Confederacy? And, the past few weeks have demonstrated that it is the scab Flutie who is the weak link on the Thursday Night booth.
I've been on the LSU bandwagon for most of the season. However, I don't know if they are the best 1-loss team in the nation anymore. They won despite the coach against Alabama, and they commit enough penalties that if Georgia or Florida wins the SEC East, they could get picked off in the SEC Title Game. Right now, I'm starting to think Oregon is better than LSU. Wouldn't mind seeing Ohio State go down to set up LSU vs. Oregon in the BCS Title Game. And, if Michigan defeats Wisconsin and Ohio State and gets back to the Top 5, doesn't that in a warped manner validate pre-season polls?
Funny thing watching the LSU game: While they were down 7 late, I'm thinking at least LSU found a way to avoid Hawaii and get to Pasadena on New Year's Day with a loss.

Yeah it was funny how you couldn't say anything online without the USF fans jumping on you, but lately you can't find them anywhere.

Meanwhile LSU gets yet another awesome win. Navy finally pulls it out. Missouri and Kansas kick the shit out of teams that used to pound them. And the #2 team isn't looking so hot right now.

Edit: Ahhhhhh. It feels like it's been forever since FSU got a win like this. What a wonderful night. Now Oregon/LSU is one step closer to reality.

No we're not. And that's my big issue with Lloyd and friends.

That kills me. I mean, thank god for State being State but we never should've been down to them after watching that first half. It was only 14-3 true, but we were owning their secondary. If we would've even kept on with our offense from that half, let alone actually run a shotgun-centered package, State would've never grabbed a lead. But Carr and his asspal DeBord once again went way too conservative, way too early, and it takes a Braylon Edwards-esque catch from Manningham to get the win we should've had from the beginning. I'm getting really sick and tired of Lloyd and pals coaching. All anyone every brings up in defense of Lloyd is his stability and record against the Big 10...oh, you mean like the 20 straight wins to set a Big 10 record like Tressel just did with Ohio State? Lloyd's got a sub .500 record in bowls and is 1-5 against the F'eyes with Tressel at the helm. He and DeBord consistently hold back this team by limiting their offense and limiting their training. Michigan has more national titles than Ohio State, Michigan has owned the rivalry as concerns wins/losses over Ohio State, yet Carr and DeBord's incompetence turns Michigan into a national joke and nearly costs us a game against the f'ing Spartans while Ohio State is clicking on all cylinders at #1. During a 'rebuilding' year. Carr and DeBord HAVE to go.

LSU/Alabama was a great game to watch. That makes two straight weeks that the marquee SEC game on CBS, despite Gary Danielson's blatant SEC slurping, was the highlight of the day. I like his Pac 10 attacks, though - who exactly HAVE they beaten non-conference? Nebraska? A horrid Michigan defense? Give me a break. But the back and forth, the hitting, and the atmosphere were all great for LSU/Alabama. Alabama's crowd got a bit quiet at times, though. I don't blame USF fans much, they're the newbies on the scene and if they're going to be overly exuberant while on top of the mountain but disappear during adversity, let them. It's their first time. So, why the HELL isn't Kansas higher ranked than it is? Last time I checked the Big 12 was a BCS conference and Kansas was undefeated. Get them in the top 4 now. I don't care about LS"too many penalties"U or Okla"Damn those Buffaloes"homa or Ore"Hey we beat a subpar Michigan defense!"gon. They have losses. Kansas does not. End of story.

Last week, the I-AA Deleware Blue Hens beat the Middies.

This week, the Middies beat the Irish.

Priceless.

In a related note. Hats off to Michigan. I wrote them off after their first two losses they have a very real chance to win the Big Ten.
