I still think if I'm going to get FFXI, I'll get it for the PC.

At the very least though, this finally adds some of the capabilities to the PS2 that most XBox fans have been complaining its lacked for a while now. However, given that it costs an extra $99, the XBox still has the better *value*. But this seems more targeted at current PS2 owners than an attempt to get people who have been sitting on the fence to buy one. After all, its now been almost three years since the PS2 came out, and two since the XBox. How many fence-sitters can be left?

Since the HD attaches to the Network Adapter, does that mean you need a network adapter, or is that just there for downloadable content?

Low tide for the time being.

This is one of those gadgets where I'll be holding off to see how many games use it, and how they use it. I have zero interest in FFXI as an MMORPG, so I'd be paying at least in part for something I wouldn't use.

The history of console add-ons is not encouraging; this could be used effectively, or it could be the next 32X or e-Reader.

With the PS3 already in the works and no plans(that I can see) to make the hard drive backwards compatable so it can function as a memory card for all your other games, I don't see any reason to buy this. You're basically spending $50 for the hard drive itself, which isn't a horrid deal in and of itself. But what else are you going to DO with it? Are there some HD-enabled games in future being planned?

Prediction: Early sales will be strong from the adopters, then 4 months later they market the PS2.5 with the TiVo and HD (with FFXI installed) for $250.

Or, it could be rejected by its parent company and have the company they hired to create it just say "Screw this! We'll release this ourselves as its own system!"

Sorry, that's how Sony got into this business in the first place.

Sometimes I ask myself why I watch WWE after all the crap it's given me. HLA, necro, HHH, and so on. And then it hits me. That one simple phrase that can be modified and used for anything that gets you down, yet makes you keep coming back.

Every episode has the potential to be the best one ever, and I'll be damned if I'm going to miss it after sitting through this shit.

Yeah, but that's the point -- the add-on was redesigned into a stand-alone console, and the new _stand-alone_ was the system that succeeded. It's not as if Sony said:

1. Our CD-ROM add-on for the SNES was rejected.
2. We'll release it ourselves.
3. ???
4. PROFIT!
