You would think with three episodes in there would be a lot to discuss, but not really. The show time jumped ahead to when the guys get out of prison. Jax apparently got fucked by the Russians even though we don't see it, just his scars. After getting out Opie ties the knot to porn girl and the boys decided to strike the Russians and their leader, Angel's Holtz, at the wedding reception. They dump the bodies into the new Hale properties development. We get to meet the new black police officer who views the boys as racist someone must have skipped season two when they fought Adam Arkin, Henry Rollins and their Nazi pals. We also get the new laid back ATF agent who replaced Stahl. He seems cool, but he is after the boys to get what will probably be our new enemies of the season, Mexican Cartel.
Danny Trejo pops in as the leader of the Cartel, who unknown to everyone, but the ATF is at civil war with the real Cartel leaders. Danny wants the boys to run drugs which is a giant no no for the club. Clay reveals him and Gemma are flat broke and he wants to go out with an 401K. Jax agrees, but the deal is he wants out to raise his sons with Tara. Tara tries and fails to tell Jax about the letters from Maureen telling her that John Teller is convinced Clay and Gemma are going to kill him.
Trejo saves Jax and Opie from the last of the Russians and after an incident with a gang run by an angry black mother, the boys vote to run drugs. Clay lets Bobby in on the Jax deal and Piney tells Gemma about the drugs which leads to Clay threatening to kill him. Juice is also half black which the new sheriff believes will make him a rat if the club found out. Again, no one saw season 2.
Its a really slow burn season, but the set-up is there either we get the SOA civil war that was teased at season one just with Jax and Clay against everyone else. Or we get the boys vs. the cartel vs. ATF/Sheriff vs. unknown entity. Or we get something completely different. After Sutter's outbursts on twitter, which are hysterical and true, I don't know how if FX is going to renew. They had a monster premiere rating, but keeping losing audience due to the new season, but still tiholding their own. Jax is a lot different from what we are used probably due to the prison time. I hope we get that episode or two, because I find myself questioning what is going through Jax's head at times. He should know dealing with the Niners to Stahl to the Irish, you can't trust the Cartel let along get in bed with them. It also annoys me that we seem to be missing Mayor Hale bringing in white hate into the town which the new sheriff either doesn't know or just missed that plot point in Chief Hale's files. All in all, its still the best show on TV and at least we are not chasing a baby across the planet.
The Wee Baby Sheamus.
Twitter: @realjoecarfley its a bit more toned down there. A bit.
And interesting development in the HBO's stand alone streaming service. HBO CTO resigns as platform for standalone streaming service scrapped (arstechnica.com) I'm starting to wonder what kind of impacts this could have on the MLB.
